Plot, Feb 2 - indefinite for now - Days 1 - 12 (credit: Elya)
Under slight revision -- stay tuned!
I can't really see more plot being needed just now, so I'm putting in a week (OOC time) of not much progress for players to catch up on threads, characters to catch up with the group if they originally remained behind at Castle Thorn, etc. The revised version of the Wraith Pass plot is also here, so take a look at what's coming up.
OOC Timeframe: Feb 2 - ? (or as long as it takes to get rid of the wraiths) Season: Spring Terrain: Wraith Pass isn't especially steep as mountain passes go, but it is pretty snowy. Even with runners on the wagons, it's hard going. Gryffin Valley is much like the valley you just left behind, a mountain valley with rivers and streams and lakes. You may see Gryffins flying overheard, but they don't like wraiths and will not approach until all the wraiths are gone. Their homes are generally up in the mountains that line the valley, and would require climbing to get to. Weather: The pass is full of mist. When you get back to the valley, it's once again generally fair. Cool to cold. Frost at night. Rain showers in the afternoons, the kind that pop up and get you wet and then go away again. Schedule: (subject to change, if there are delays, side trips, whatever, just let me know) Feb 2-9 (Days 1-4): After reaching the snows of the pass, but before reaching the mist, one of the wagons breaks down (the ski-runner that lets it act as a sledge in the snow snaps and then the axel breaks while going over a rock). It takes time to jury-rig a fix (first attempts break again almost immediately, etc.). Feb 10,11 (Day 5): Climbing Wraith Pass. There is a lot of mist in the pass and it's easy to get separated from other people if you're not careful. Overnight just on the other side of the pass, in the snow. Feb 12,13 (Day 6): Descending from Wraith Pass. Still misty, but when the mist clears a little, you can see all the way across Gryffin Valley and the view is amazing. March 11-19 (Day 8): Pass a lake filled with flying fish (they jump out of the water and transform from fish to birds). March 20-28 (Day 9): Come up with your own scenery day! (first come, first served) The wraiths solidify today, separating from their victims. March 29-Apr 5 (Day 10 & 11) Nothing eventful on Day 10, except for noticing the wraiths. On Day 11 - the wraith hunt. They look something like this. Apr 6-Apr 12 (Day 12): Troll bridge. Made of stone. Quite well maintained. The troll wants two goats as payment. Wraiths: The wraiths are creatures of the mist, they sneak in close and steal your warmth and whisper in your ear and eat away at your confidence. They are repelled by larger groups of people and by the smell of wine. The spell anchor will give a warning about sticking together when you get close to the pass, before you enter the mist. There are also some stories about wraiths in the library, but they will not be easy to find because the library is mostly a magical library, and the stories are all in illustration of some spell or another. Anyone who leaves the group while in the mist (and is not drinking wine at the time) could have a wraith attach to them. Wraiths are usually invisible and intangible. They can occasionally become visible and their purpose for this is to induce emotion in the living person unfortunate enough to encounter them. They feed from emotional vibes so they will appear as someone the victim knows, generally a deceased person. Otherwise they wrap around you like a coat. In order to defeat it, two things must happen.
The longer the wraith is attached, the colder you get. It will also show in your eyes; they will turn grey and eventually white. When solid, the wraiths are about the size of a cat, fiercely fanged, and still unnaturally cold. They are petty thieves, and may get into the supplies. They are also still attracted to warmth, and they especially like to creep up on you and whisper, usually when you're alone, or when you're sleeping so the whispers get into your dreams. On Day 9, any wraiths that are still in the personal (intangible) stage will move to the next stage (the distance from their native mists becomes too great, and they can no longer maintain the connection that keeps them intangible) and can be dealt with by anyone from then on, as can all solid wraiths. Use this post to keep track of wraiths. Your mission, should you choose to accept it: If you have any suggestions for come up with your own scenery days, please comment here. If you would like to suggest details for anything that seems underspecified or that you want your character involved with (jury-rigging the cart, where the two goats might come from, etc.) please comment here. |
