Who: Hestia Jones & Rabastan Lestrange
What: Interrupting some torture and Death Eater fun
Where: Dark alley in Diagon Alley
When: Nighttime, nearly midnight
Rating/Warnings: PG-13, perhaps

Hestia hadn't planned on spending the evening out. Although she had worked only one shift at the hospital, early morning rounds around the ward, she had felt the inexplicable need to stay in at her flat, put on her most comfortable sleeping clothes and lounge on her couch all day with a good book. Perhaps even some soup from the Leaky for dinner. They always did have the best in terms of broth-filled eats. So, instead of her planned book reading, Hestia had pulled on her warmest cloak and Apparated over to Diagon Alley.

She hadn't planned on spending the rest of the night there. Although, with the kind of crowd that the pub attracted, it was hard not to stick around and enjoy the night with a few friends. Of course, Hestia didn't exactly consider Mungdungus Fletcher a friend - but he was certainly entertaining.

And he had been entertaining the whole pub with a range of stories Hestia didn't think was very appropriate for the children who happened to be eating dinner. Nor did their parents find it very funny.

Hours later, and one of the last to leave, Hestia left Tom with a wave and headed out onto the deserted streets of Diagon Alley.

The heels of Hestia's boots clicked against the cobblestone path as she took in the fresh night air. A simple Apparition to her flat would have sufficed, but she felt that the cool air was actually quite calming. Her gloved hands stuffed in the pockets of her cloak, she took slow and deliberate steps down the street. She was in no hurry to return home. It wasn't much of an excitement when there wasn't anyone else there.

But soon, the sound of her boots were not the only noise to fill the empty streets. Slowing down her movements, she paused just near the entrance to Gladrag's. She couldn't be sure. It was difficult to pinpoint exactly what she was hearing - but it was something. A long moment passed before she heard anything and then, a whimper.

Reaching into her cloak, she pulled her wand from the inner pocket. There was another noise, muffled but clearly a voice. She bit down on her bottom lip as she took another step toward where an alley opened up. She wasn't sure what she thought she was going to find. For all she knew it could have been a few rats or something.

But it sounded so completely human.

And then she heard movement and Hestia found herself pulled toward the noise. It was her duty, wasn't it? Doing her best to stay quiet, Hestia tiptoed toward the dark alley, her head poking around the corner-

Just as the man pulled out his wand, Hestia caught sight of the mangled woman beneath him.

"Expelliarmus!"
