Ellie was bored. Alfie and Audrey were both involved with other people and so Ellie was trying to be nice about it and not bother them as much. After all they probably wanted to spend time with their significant others and she couldn’t begrudge them that. She was certain that if she had a significant other she’d want to spend a great deal of time with them as well. Plus everything was so new for Audrey and Fiona and Ellie assumed that it was definitely important for them to be alone together.

And that was why she was wandering the halls of Hogwarts alone on a Saturday without a real destination in mind or any plans on what she could do. Had she been thinking more about what she was doing then perhaps she would have explored Hogwarts some more since it was so large and changing all of the time, but she wasn’t really thinking about things like that. Her mind drifted from thoughts of what was going on, which brought up worries about her mum, and the normal things that girls her age thought about. Almost unbidden her conversation with her brother from not too long ago came up to mind and she chuckled quietly, remembering how he’d basically told her to get in trouble.

She didn’t plan on honestly getting in any trouble though. She wasn’t one for confrontations if she could avoid them. Sure she’d sent Capper that anonymous owl and had to scratch out bits of comments to her or Weasley, but that wasn’t really getting in trouble. No, that was her voicing her displeasure at how Capper had handled her relationship with Audrey. Or rather how she hadn’t handled ending it. It still rankled her when she thought about it and she found herself getting annoyed, but her attention was pulled back to the real world when she had to dodge a bright burst of light heading toward her and she turned toward a sheepish third year practicing spells in the corridor.

“Hey now! Watch what you are doing. You aren’t even allowed to practice in the halls and if you are going to then you definitely need to make sure you don’t hit someone!” She rolled her eyes and grinned at the muttered apologies and babble about Charms and how hard it was before waving the student off and starting up again. Of course she’d only just started up again when she had to dodge again to stop from having a near collision with a human body. That just went to show her that she needed to practice what she preached. It wouldn’t do for her to run someone down after getting on the third year to watch their spellwork.

“Oops. Sorry,” Ellie said, turning to the person she’d nearly ran down with an apologetic smile.

When Ellie left Hufflepuff this evening she definitely hadn't planned on running into anyone and starting a verbal altercation. And even if she had then she most certainly would have never planned for it to go further then that. But as it was she now found herself in the halls of Hogwarts with Ginny Weasley's wand pointed at her and a threat that basically said she should watch her words carefully. The only problem was that while the wand was a threat Ellie was still riled up and had not taken kindly to the cruel words Ginny had uttered about Audrey.

It was also her eyes trained on Ginny's wand that stopped her from noticing the tears in her eyes and so she assumed that the shaky breath was due to anger. "You started the conversation, Weasley, and it has to do with Capper. If you don't want something said about her then stop bad mouthing Audrey and continue on your way. Until then you're going to get what you give, end of story."

"Me?!" Ginny responded, resisting the urge to throw her hands in the air. "You're the one who - " She stopped, suddenly, struck with a realisation, and lowered her wand. "You're the one who sent that stupid owl, aren't you?" That stupid, laughable owl. Ginny dropped her arm, her wand still in her hand, her voice mocking. "You're mean. I don't like you." She gave a harsh laugh. "Grow up."

Ellie gave a small, barely noticable wince at the mention of the owl. She'd been so mad when she wrote it and had fully intended to send it in its entirety, but the walk from Hufflepuff to the Owlery had calmed her down. By the time she had an owl actually down and ready to send it she'd been biting her lip in indecision. So she'd pulled out a muggle pen she kept on her and scratched it out and had ended the letter with what Ginny had just quoted. She definitely didn't want it thrown back in her face now and she'd never sent another like she'd originally planned.

But to hear Ginny mocking her about it now made Ellie snap and before she'd even registered what she'd done her hand lashed out and she slapped Ginny hard across the face. Of course at the feel of her hand striking skin her eyes widened impossibly and she dropped her hand to the side, taking a shaking step backward. "Oh Merlin. I can't- I don't believe. Oh Merlin."

Ginny's jaw dropped at the slap. She'd certainly never expected to strike her, and before she could react, hit her back or yell, or anything, Ginny didn't even know what, there was a bright flash of light from the other end of the corridor.

Having stepped back, the spell just missed Ellie and struck Ginny full on and she wavered for a moment before exploding into giggles, Ellie's palmprint clearly visible on her cheek.

Ellie couldn't believe she'd done that. She'd never hit anyone before. She'd certainly thought of walking up to Sam and laying one on her when Audrey had been so distraught over everything, but she never would have honestly acted on it. But now she'd gone and done it and it'd been Ginny and not Sam. And there was a niggling thought that perhaps Ginny wasn't truly aware despite her siding with Sam and being nasty and guilt was already eating at Ellie.

"I- I can't- I don't know- I just-," her sentences were cut off and halting as she stared in horror at the red imprint on Ginny's face and then she looked down at her hand as though it was something foreign before she took another step back from the other girl. And out of all the possible reactions she could have had giggling didn't even rank and Ellie vaguely remembered the third year practicing spellwork just a little further down the hall and realized what must have happened. She didn't voice it though, instead she gave one last look at Ginny before turning fully and darting away.

Ellie didn't stop for anyone or anything until she reached Hufflepuff and then her dorm room. She threw herself into her bed, grabbed her journal and pulled her curtains shut, tucking her knees up close to her chest. She rested her journal on her knees and cracked it opening, scrawling a messy and hasty message to Audrey and casting a privacy spell with shakey hands.
