Who: Professor McGonagall and Charlie Weasley
What: The new Headmistress offers Charlie a position.
Where: Hogwarts, The Headmaster's Office
When: Wednesday
Warnings: G

Over the last week, more and more of Albus Dumbledore had disappeared from the office, and slowly more of her own things were being moved up from her former office in the Tower to this office that was now, inexplicably, hers. The books lining the shelves and the small gadgets and trinkets adorning the mantles were hers, now, though many of them bore a resemblance to those that Dumbledore had kept here. There was even a small bowl of sweets on the desk, though it now held licorice in a seemingly neverending supply rather than lemon drops.

Still, Minerva looked out of place behind the large desk, almost dwarfed by the stack of papers and parchments stacked there. She looked up as she heard someone approaching, placing her quill back into its place and retrieving and then straightening her large pointed hat. There were quite a few people she was expecting - she'd had a rather terse conversation with Professor Pittiman that she did not want to revisit today for example - but she had only one who she hoped had decided to visit today.

It hadn't been that long since he'd been in Hogwarts, but the entire school seemed to be completely different now that Dumbledore was gone. Things hadn't changed that much, but it seemed to Charlie that the elderly wizard would suddenly turn the corner and greet him with a smile and laugh. Of course that didn't happen, though he continued to hope that maybe it would the closer he got towards the door to the man's office.

No, not his office, but Minerva McGonagall's now. That was something tough to adjust to, but he figured it was just like everything else in life -- something that he'd learn to live with as time went on. There were so many things changing in the world, and his return home just reminded him partially of the reasons he'd taken the job and so quickly took off to Romania...

Three sharp knocks before the red haired Weasley popped his head into the room, taking a moment to glance around. He expected to see the trinkets and artifacts that Dumbledore had adorned his office with, but most of it was gone now, replaced by Professor McGonagall's own belongings. He exhaled a breath before fully stepping into the room, closing the door in his wake.

"I came as you requested, Professor. What can I do for you?"

"Mister Weasley," Minerva had the uncanny ability to speak to any former student as if they were still eleven years old and coming into her classroom late, but it was not a habit she was looking to change.

She stood, extended a hand to him to wave him toward the seat directly across from hers across the expanse of the Headmaster's desk. "Sit, please." And when he had, she sat as well. "I was pleased to hear that you had returned from Romania. Do you intend to stay?" She was never one to beat around the bush, but in this instance she felt she should know his plans before asking him to change them.

Well, sitting across from her certainly did make him feel as if he were eleven, having been caught sneaking around the school after hours. He tried to shrug off that feeling as he laced his fingers in front of his face, elbows resting against his knees. "I had considered asking to be transferred into the Ministry so I could stay here. I haven't submitted the paperwork yet." With a pause, he wished to ask what she was aiming towards, but he felt in due time she'd fill him in.

"I see," Minerva said, sitting stock straight in the Headmaster's chair. It was not as comfortable as the chair in her former office, and she considered whether or not to have them traded out.

She was not one to keep business waiting, and so cleared her throat and finally got to the reason why she'd called him here today. "No doubt you have been informed about the tragedy that befell some members of the Order as they were taking Mister Potter to your family's home. It has left us in a rather dire situation here at Hogwarts. We are absent several key professors, and the Ministry of Magic is attempting to fill the positions themselves if I do not do so quickly." They'd already gotten Pittiman appointed without her say-so, and Minerva would be damned if that happened again. Besides, Minerva had the feeling that having as many Order members on the grounds as possible this year would be highly beneficial.

"In particular, we are without a professor for Care of Magical Creatures. Of course, you are over qualified for the position, but I would still like you to consider it."

A thousand things ran through his head at that moment, and he sat back in the chair and let out a breath. There were so many different things he'd expected her to call him there about, but becoming a professor at the school he'd graduated from only a few years prior wasn't one of them. Leveling his gaze with the woman, he nodded slowly.

"It's a shame that the position is even open, but I'll do what I can to fill the shoes of the former professor." Awfully big shoes to fill, Charlie, he thought to himself before speaking again. "I'm not sure if I'm really the right person for the job, but I'll do what I can." Only then did Charlie smile, but he wasn't sure if it looked convincing -- nor was he sure about anything going on, other than that things would be getting rather interesting in short order.

McGonagall was even keel enough that she blinked at him only once, and the surprise didn't show on her face. It had been so easy - far easier than convincing Miss Tonks.

She cleared her throat again and then nodded once, severely, before picking up her quill again. "I'll let the Ministry know that the position has been filled, then. I'm glad you were so easily convinced, Mister Weasley."

It wasn't so much that he scrambled to his feet than it was he stumbled over the chair when he stood, placing a hand on the edge of her desk to sturdy himself. "Thank you, Professor. You've done me a huge favor here, and I only hope that I can return it in the long run." Thinking for a long moment he then spoke once more. "I will have a room here, wont I? I do not wish to place another burden on mum, with Bill's wedding and everyone else running in and out of home."

Minerva did seem surprised by that question, and she didn't mean to sound as if she was answering a student when she answered him, but fell short. "Of course, Mister Weasley. Professors are required to keep a residence within the castle."

As he'd stood, she stood too, and after an almost awkward moment of considering it, held out a hand to be shaken. "Paperwork will be owled to you soon, and you know when the term begins. You're welcome to take residence here as soon as you'd like, though."

Taking her hand he nodded with a more genuine smile. "I'll be sure to sign everything as soon as I get it." He released after their shake and nodded once and moved to exit her office, now for a meeting of another kind in store.
