Who: Meghan McCormack and Penelope Clearwater
When: Shortly after this
Where: Penny and Oliver's Flat
What: BFF time, comforting, etc.
Rating: TBA
Open/Closed: Closed unless Oliver happens to pop home

Penny had said it wasn't mandatory she come by, but as far as Meghan was concerned, there was no question in whether she was going to rush to her best friend's side in this moment. She knew Penny better than just about everyone and she knew how upset she must be right now - about the decree, about still having no clue about her own family's whereabouts, about Percy. Meghan could scarcely believe it, herself, that Percy was so involved in all of this. She could imagine how hurt Penny must be.

There was a quick stop off for a large tub of mint chocolate chip and some extra spoons just in case and then Meghan was appearing with a pop outside of the flat her best friend shared with one Oliver Wood. Rather than knocking, she let herself in. The moment she was inside, she made a beeline for Penny, dropping her things onto a table before surging forward and pulling the girl into a tight hug.

"Are you sure nail scissors will be quite painful enough?" she murmured, a joke, though her tone was without humor. Oh, she liked Percy well enough most of the time, but right now she could murder him for his part in this. Or maim him, at the very least.

Nodding, Meghan laughed. She didn't think either of them would actually harm Percy, but it felt good to make those threats, safe here in each others' company where no one could judge them for their desire to vent their anger at a friend. She couldn't begin to think what Percy was thinking, but she knew that the last thing Penny needed was to listen to her vent about the man. It was better and easier to focus on something else.

"Oh, you're welcome," she nodded at the thank you, taking the offered tub and helping herself to a spoonful. It tasted so good and she paused to swallow the ice cream. Was there nothing this stuff couldn't make better?

"It was good. It was nice to spend time with Mum and just relax a bit and, well, you already know about the gift I got from Oliver." She grinned excitedly, tucking a few strangers of her unruly hair behind her ear. She didn't want to be insensitive to Penny's mood, but she knew Penny would know all too well how excited she was about what Oliver had gotten her.

"I doo," Penny said with a drumroll of her feet against the counter as she fought to keep the grin from splitting her face "Its a very nice gift. Quodpot and all of those delightful American players."

Pushing back her hair from her face, Penny gave in and smirked at her friend. "So, will you two be staying overnight?"

Her tone was utterly innocent of anything other than pure interest. But the smile on her face gave her away.

"Oh, yes, it is! I hear it's more violent than Quidditch. Exploding balls and all! I'm really looking forward to it!"

Meghan liked Oliver. She really did. They had a great time together. He was a lot of fun. And tickets to go see a Quodpot game in America were basically the best Christmas gift ever.

When Penny questioned her, though, her eyes widened, because she knew her friend a little too well to miss what she was getting at.

"I... don't know, actually," she answered her, a moment later giving her a little thwap on the arm. "And you are a vixen, Penelope Clearwater. Don't think I don't know what you're suggesting!"

"I've always said that Quidditch is too gentle," Penny espoused slowly "Its not fun if theres not half-dead players clinging to their broom and..,"

Penny trailed off as though suddenly remembering who she was talking to "But obviously, I don't share that opinion. Nope. No half-dead players for me. Oh look. Have some ice cream?"

Dipping into the tub for a moment, Penny chewed it thoughtfully "I'm not suggesting anything! But if I were, I'm just saying that whilst it would be very weird, it wouldn't freak me out. Theoretically it might even be kind of," she paused to think of the right word "sweet."

"Tell me about it. Bloody fantastic sport, but it could do with a bit more violence."

She grinned at Penny, half-joking, because Quidditch was violent in it's own right, bludgers and what not. Quodpot sounded exciting, though, and she was excited to be getting to go and see a match, especially when she would be in such good company.

"Sweet?" She snickered at that. "If your roommate and I were shagging, you think it would be sweet?" This was a much more pleasant topic of conversation than the one they had started out with and she couldn't help being amused. Sweet. What an excellent choice in words.

"Oi! No mentioning the S word." Putting the spoon down to cover her ears, she shook her head and stuck out her tongue at her friend. "Please. I have to make eye contact with him, but if you two decide to ah - you know - silencing charms. Lots of silencing charms."

Picking up her spoon she tapped it gently against her thigh "I know you'll need them. You're a snorer, McCormack."

"I do NOT snore," Meghan protested most emphatically, but a moment later she'd burst into a fit of giggles, because something seemed to happen that when two grown women got together like this, they immediately became 12 again.

"You're the one who snores. And talks in her sleep. Do you still do Arithmancy out loud in between snores, Penny?" Somehow, she managed to keep a perfectly straight face, though she was kind of dying on the inside at the mental image.

The truth was that she and Ollie were just hanging out, nothing serious, and she didn't know that anything would come of it, but she did enjoy his company and all joking aside, it was good to have Penny's blessing, should it become anything. They teased one another a lot, but Meghan wouldn't actually consider anything that would make the other girl uncomfortable.

"I don't!," squirming round she turned to glare at her friend "Tell me I don't mumble maths in my sleep?"

With a groan she slid deeper into the cushions "I hate you" she said without rancour and heat.

"So Ol, really? When did this start? Enquiring minds want to know."

"You do! You so do!" Did it matter if it was true or not? Either way, it was worth the look on Penny's face to say it and Meghan only smirked when her best friend decided she hated her.

"Nope! You looooooove me!" She flashed another impish grin, knowing that Penny didn't mean it.

A shift and a shrug later she was answering her question. "Er.. us hanging out? We both got certificates to a spa from some fan and we just happened to go on the same day, I guess?" She shrugged again. It wasn't like it was a big deal. They were hanging out, having fun. Nothing serious or anything.

"I do? I doo," she amended before covering her face with the pillows. What kind of person mumbled formulas in her sleep? Why had no one thought to tell her this before?

Or strangle her in her sleep?

"Hrmmm," Penny said eloquently "Hrmmm." she repeated with more emphasis.

Meghan dissolved into a fit of giggles, then. She couldn't help herself.

"You are reading far too much into this, you know," she advised her friend once she could breathe again. Not that she thought that would dissuade her friend. Penny could be damn stubborn when it came down to it and if she'd decided to play matchmaker, Meghan doubted there was any stopping her.

"I like reading into things. If I wasn't so cynical, I'd have made an excellent Divination student."

She relaxed as the twin support structures of ice-cream and Meghan started to work her magic. "We'll see," she said enigmatically before leaning her head on her friends shoulders.

"Wanna see what else is in Olivers cupboards that we can eat? You're not a health kick all the time, right?"

This was good. This was better. Meghan could see that Penny's mood was lifting and it made her happy to know she was helping. Maybe not in some big, world-altering way, but she was helping her best mate to feel better and that made her feel a little less helpless amidst all of this.

"That sounds like the best idea you've had all day," she grinned and nodded. Raiding the cupboards in search of.. whatever happened to be there.. sounded like a brilliant idea, especially if it was going to help keep Penny's mind off of Percy's supreme idiocy and everything else that was going on in the world around them.
