Entry tags:!1997: 12, !incomplete, audrey wadcock, ellie cattermole

Who: Audrey Wadcock and Ellie Cattermole
When: Thursday evening
Where: 6th year Hufflepuff girls dorm
What: Ellie is worried about Audrey and tired of what seems to be Audrey avoiding her.
Rating: TBA, but probably relatively low what with Ellie’s need to not curse.
Open/Closed: Closed

Ellie was quite put out with the fact that Audrey seemed to be avoiding her. Everything seemed to be going weird with her best friends lately. First they hook up for convenience and then it seems that in no time at all Alfie wants to talk to her about something again and Audrey is avoiding her. Not that she doesn’t love talking with Alfie, it was just that she found it odd he seemed so serious. But then again she’d been noticing that he did seem to get more serious this year then she was used to. What she wasn’t used to, and what she refused to get used to, was Audrey never seeming to be around. It seemed every time she saw the other girl she’d make some sort of excuse or duck away.

Well enough was enough. Ellie was determined that tonight she was talking to Audrey even if she had to wait until the middle of the night to pounce on her and tie her down and force her to talk. Happily enough though, and luckily enough for Audrey, that didn’t appear necessary. Ellie knew that Audrey had been going to bed early here recently and so she simply waited for a time that she knew the other girl would be “going to bed” to confront her.

And the perfect time had just come. Their other dorm mates were still in the common room which meant she and the other girl could get some alone time. Ellie was determined to get whatever was bothering her out in the open. And if it was Capper again, well, maybe something more then an anonymous owl was due. Though she also supposed there were a number of other people it could be such as Weasley, someone from another house or even Ellie’s own brother.

Quietly Ellie entered the room, pushing the door closed behind her. Audrey’s bed curtains were open and she could see that the other girl was awake. That was good because it did abate the guilt that had started to build and eat away at Ellie that she might honestly be waking the other girl. Quickly she crossed to Audrey’s bed and flopped heavily down on it, situating herself so she was facing Audrey.

“I think we need to talk, Aud. So let’s chat.” She tried to keep her voice cheerful, but it didn’t come out nearly as enthusiastic and upbeat as she wanted. Bother.

Audrey’s reaction left something to be desired. Ellie scrutinized the other girl, wondering exactly what was going on. Well, she had this chat time just to the two of them to try to find out and she was determined. She didn’t think that Audrey was nearly as stubborn as Julien Dorny had been, so she was positive she could get information out of her easier then she’d been able to convince him of anything.

“Almost!” But she still couldn’t stop the excitement of the Weird Sisters joining the journals. “Only Donaghan is missing. I’m positive that in time he’ll join to. After all the others are all here now!” One could certainly hope and Ellie planned on holding onto that hope for as long as she could. “They’re all so cool so far! They’ve been really nice. And some of them were Hufflepuffs!”

Audrey arched an eyebrow and reconsidered her attitude. Maybe Ellie really just wanted to talk about the Weird Sisters. "Have you talked to any of them?" She asked, tucking the blanket under her thighs and scooting over a little to make room for Ellie.

"I don't think I'd be able to," she said, after a moment, patting the bed beside her. "I mean, they're the Weird Sisters. They're not just normal people!"

Ellie knew she shouldn't be gushing about the Weird Sisters. She was positive that something was going on with Audrey. But now that she'd started she couldn't seem to stop. She would do her absolute best to make certain that she got back on track though. Eventually. For now she wanted to squeal and gush about them to one of her closest friends who hadn't been around for her to do that with.

"Oh you should! They're just so beyond cool and nice." She was bouncing where she sat in excitement. She could barely restrain herself from going to her bed and grabbing her journal and opening it up to show Audrey the comments left from Kirley. "Oh my goodness oh my goodness! Kirely totally commented in my journal! And I've so commented to, like, all of them! It's so cool. And Drew asked them out..."

"But what if they didn't respond?" Audrey said, her face serious. "Or what if you said something stupid? And they laughed at you? What have you said to them?"

Aud pressed her shoulder against Ellie's and leaned over, peering at her friend's journal, unable to suppress a laugh at her last words. "Drew asked them out?" Aud giggled, flipping the pages to find something to support Ellie's claim. "What did they say?"

"Well they've responded to me every time so far, so I'm sure they'd respond to you too!" Ellie really couldn't imagine that they wouldn't. They were turning out to be even better then Ellie thought they were in her head. "I can't really say I've said much. I've mentioned how awesome they are a handful of times, said hi, chatted about random things. They've been completely cool with it because I'm sure I came off kinda nuts in some of them. No laughing though! Well, not malicious laughing. Maybe funny haha if I said something silly."

"Oh goodness he so totally did! It was awesome. Except for those Slytherins that were nasty." Ellie scowled at the journals at that, wishing there was some rule that if you couldn't say anything nice at all then don't comment. "They were all nice about it. Gideon even said to hit him up in two years!"

Aud scoffed lightly and shook her head. "Maybe I could date one of them," she murmured to herself, almost without realising it. "At least then I'd have a good story to tell when I got dumped."

It took a moment for her to realise she'd said the words and widened her eyes, turning to look at Ellie. She hadn't meant to tell the other girl like this! Even though she was pretty sure Alfie had already told his sister what had happened, she hadn't wanted to bring it up in such a bitter, offhand manner and cringed, waiting for the inevitable explosion.

Ellie halted whatever she was going to say and frowned, thinking about what Audrey had just said. She was confused though and even playing it back in her mind didn't help her realize exactly what Audrey was getting at. Who had dumped her? Was she on about Capper again? Because she was pretty sure that Capper and she had never been officially dating. And then it seemed to hit her and her eyes widened and she nearly denied it immediately.

"Wait, what? Back up there, Audrey. Who dumped you? Because I'm getting the dumped thing from this." Had Alfie already dumped Audrey? Why? And why hadn't Alfie told her yet?! She was seriously feeling like a bad friend if neither of them could tell her this.

Audrey took a long breath, then let it out and slinked back, resting her head on Ellie's shoulder. "Alfie," she said after a moment. Judging by Ellie's reaction, her brother hadn't broken the news to her, so Aud was unsure how much to say. What of Alfie's confession had been intended for her ears only? What could she say to satiate Ellie's inevitable curiosity?

"We're not together anymore."

Alfie... It didn't make sense. Ellie didn't understand how they could get together and only be together for such a short time before splitting up. And she wondered just why Alfie hadn't told her yet. Maybe that was what she wanted to talk to her about the other day? She didn't know though as they'd never had the conversation. Now she desperately wanted to talk to Alfie.

"Why? What happened? You two just got together it seems and now you're apart and..." She cut herself off, twisting her hands together in her lap unhappily. She wasn't even certain if Aud wanted to talk about this, but since it was Alfie she couldn't seem to stop herself from questioning her.

"I don't know," Audrey tried to figure out what to say, pulling her blanket up over her more. "He just said he couldn't be with me anymore." That much was true at least, but Aud knew it sounded bad the way she phrased it. What else could she say, though? That he'd broken up with her because he was gay? That she thought she might be, too? How ridiculous was that? It was Alfie's place to say why he'd broken up with her, not hers and Aud sniffled, hoping Ellie wouldn't ask any other questions as she truly had no idea how to answer them.

There had to be a reason. She was positive that Alfie wouldn't break up with her without a reason. And of course that made her think back to the conversation she'd had with Alfie about them getting together and what had happened with Dorny. That also brought up thoughts about her conversation with Dorny. Perhaps Dorny had contacted Alfie and spoke with him or the opposite? If that were the case she didn't know if she should be elated or upset. After all Audrey was her friend. "I'm so sorry, Aud. I'd offer to hit him for you, but he's my twin and I don't think that'd go over so well."

Aud shrugged. "You don't have to hit him," she responded, slowly. "At least he was honest, I guess?" She frowned and sighed; honest like she couldn't be. "And didn't just... leave me for someone else or something like that." Even though Aud was pretty sure he had.

It wasn't that she blamed Alfie, or was upset at him, she just felt particularly unlovable. Two people in as many weeks had chosen others over her. What did that say about her?

Ellie wasn't so certain that Alfie hadn't left Audrey for someone else, but she wasn't going to say that. It seemed that had been happening to Audrey here recently. Capper had left her for Weasley and now she was almost positive that Alfie had left her for Dorny. She really wanted to try to help Audrey more, but she wasn't sure what to do in a situation like this. Plus she was afraid that she'd blurt out what she knew about Alfie and Dorny and it wouldn't help to say things she wasn't positive about.

"Still I feel like I should offer something and normally things like that should require some sort of physical response? Or something." She frowned before leaning over to Audrey and hugging her.
