Ellie was quite put out with the fact that Audrey seemed to be avoiding her. Everything seemed to be going weird with her best friends lately. First they hook up for convenience and then it seems that in no time at all Alfie wants to talk to her about something again and Audrey is avoiding her. Not that she doesn’t love talking with Alfie, it was just that she found it odd he seemed so serious. But then again she’d been noticing that he did seem to get more serious this year then she was used to. What she wasn’t used to, and what she refused to get used to, was Audrey never seeming to be around. It seemed every time she saw the other girl she’d make some sort of excuse or duck away.
Well enough was enough. Ellie was determined that tonight she was talking to Audrey even if she had to wait until the middle of the night to pounce on her and tie her down and force her to talk. Happily enough though, and luckily enough for Audrey, that didn’t appear necessary. Ellie knew that Audrey had been going to bed early here recently and so she simply waited for a time that she knew the other girl would be “going to bed” to confront her.
And the perfect time had just come. Their other dorm mates were still in the common room which meant she and the other girl could get some alone time. Ellie was determined to get whatever was bothering her out in the open. And if it was Capper again, well, maybe something more then an anonymous owl was due. Though she also supposed there were a number of other people it could be such as Weasley, someone from another house or even Ellie’s own brother.
Quietly Ellie entered the room, pushing the door closed behind her. Audrey’s bed curtains were open and she could see that the other girl was awake. That was good because it did abate the guilt that had started to build and eat away at Ellie that she might honestly be waking the other girl. Quickly she crossed to Audrey’s bed and flopped heavily down on it, situating herself so she was facing Audrey.
“I think we need to talk, Aud. So let’s chat.” She tried to keep her voice cheerful, but it didn’t come out nearly as enthusiastic and upbeat as she wanted. Bother.
