Who: Minerva and Remus
What: Order Discussion
Where: Headmistress' Office, Hogwarts
When: Yesterday
Warnings: TBA

Minerva looked down at the letter she'd drafted to the Minister of Magic. It outlined in no uncertain terms that Hogwarts was denouncing the control of the Ministry, that she believed Death Eaters were in charge, and that no Ministry supervision of the school would be tolerated. She knew the rush it would cause - many parents would remove their students from Hogwarts. Many students would not understand the drastic measures.

Still, it had to be done.

Beforehand, though, she must look to the Order. In Albus' absence, communication had almost stopped, and she had allowed it because Severus' betrayal burned like a poison, but that could not be allowed to go on. They were mourning, and in shock, but it was time to move past this - if Potter had a hope to carry out the mission Albus had always believed was his alone. And to see the Order moving ahead, Minerva had to talk things over with Remus, she had already spoken with Elphias and Arthur.

Remus was feeling more up to the task of a meeting of minds now that the moon had passed and he'd taken the time to recover. He really hoped he hadn't maimed Minerva's owl too much, but without nape about to make the potion, something like that seemed like a snack to him in that state.

Still nursing a scratch to the face, he winced when he apparated to Hogwarts as the motion of it pulled at his skin. He dabbed at the drops of blood, cursing how he hadn't tended it better, but maybe a stop by the infirmary afterward was in order before he ascended the staircase to Dumbledore's office. He felt a sickening feeling as he emerged at the top of the stairs to see the place without the twinkling eyed professor staring back at him, welcoming him inward. No, he saw the portrait off to the side, Dumbledore snoring away in it, which made him stop and stare for a moment.

"How long has he been sleeping?"

"Since he arrived," Minerva didn't have to follow his glance, or even move from her chair, to know who he was speaking of. "He must have been exhausted. But you might think he'd wake up and offer some counsel." Not that the portraits, she'd discovered, were of much use. Likely he'd wake up and ask for a bowl of lemon drops to be painted in with him.

Finally she stood, waiting for Remus to come in properly and sit. Looking him over, he looked a bit worse for wear, and she wondered what the news she'd bring of Snape's betrayal would mean for him, in the long run. She couldn't make herself worry overmuch on that account, though. They had larger problems at the moment.

"Perhaps he's taking a much deserved rest, Minerva. If anyone has earned it, Dumbledore has," he said as he walked further into the study, never taking his eyes off the curious portrait of the slumbering professor. Ever since the incident at Hogwarts when he was a professor here himself, Remus had always been a bit nervous on the grounds, as if he was waiting for them to take him away because his presence endangered people, but he took a seat at the front of the desk, his hands resting on his knees. "You wanted to see me, Minerva?"

He had to admit he was anxious to hear what she had to say. He knew she had to be under a lot of stress since Dumbledore's death and the new decrees and such of the Ministry. Everything had changed overnight, and nothing seemed for the better.

"Yes, perhaps," she sounded as if she'd tasted something sour, though, and she turned to look at the portrait again, Albus snuffling quietly to himself in the frame, and sighed, sitting down her quill.

By the time she'd looked back to Remus, she looked aged somehow. Not old, but withered. "How is the Order faring? I spoke with Arthur and Kingsley briefly, but they've been far too worried with the Ministry situation. Death Eaters, roaming the halls there openly! Arthur can't go in any longer, of course...." She trailed off, shaking her head. They were all fragmented, unconnected. Something needed to be done.

"I've not spoken to any of them since before Dumbledore's death. Many of us have...taken it rather hard," he said, slightly gazing out of the window when he spoke. Remus had taken it especially hard given how much that man had done for him, a little boy with a furry little problem who had had no hopes of attending a wizard school without his aid.

"Arthur and Kingsley are in very unique situations, but Arthur should be careful, his children especially." Remus leaned forward in his chair, his hands folded in his lap, "What do you propose we do then, Minerva? I suppose Tonks could always go back to the Ministry in her Auror capacity and spy if need be. She might not be happy with it, though..." he trailed off, looking down at his hands.

"I was actually going to suggest she cut her ties with the Ministry," Minerva said quickly. "She'll be recalled, otherwise, when I declare that Hogwarts is not longer under the Minister's control. As for the Order..."

Here her plan stopped, and she sighed, looking at her desk, and then across to Remus. "Have you had any contact with Harry? He trusts you, I was hoping he'd written?" Too many of their hopes rested on Potter's shoulders, but Minerva needed to know that he was still safe if they had any hope of spurning the Order on.

He wasn't so certain about severing those ties. He supposed with her job at the school that she could maintain herself, and while they were fighting this war, this would most likely put a mild strain on the two of them as a couple.

Remus lowered his gaze. "No. I've tried contacting him through the journals, but no such luck. I've not heard from him since before the eve of Dumbledore's death. Have Hermione or Ron been in contact with anyone? Have the Weasleys heard from them perhaps?" he said, looking hopeful. If Harry trusted anyone, it was that family.

"I believe they've been in touch with Miss Weasley once, though no past that..." Minerva sighed, shaking her head. "We cannot wait for news of them to act. I do wish they were safe here with us at the school, but I must think of all of the students' safety."

She paused for a moment before she admitted, "I suspect that when the news breaks about my plans to take Hogwarts from the Ministry supervision, many parents will remove their students. It is a risk we'll need to be ready for, if we leave things as they are how long would it be before they attempted to install Death Eaters here at the school itself? I would wager, not too long."
