Alfie didn't know why the article in this morning's paper had made him so upset. Usually, he didn't even read them, but since the 'Protective Decree' he'd started to, just to see if there were more, and to look for news about Potter - because even if he didn't know much of what was going on, he knew enough to know that Potter was important. And now there was a book about Dumbledore lying to them all, and hating muggles, and Alfie was angry but he wasn't sure if he was angry about being lied to, or angry because he knew, or thought he knew, that Dumbledore couldn't have hated muggles.
Even if it seemed like more and more people did, now.
Alfie thought about his mother as he sat down on a bench in the corridor, Puddle making figure-eights around his ankles now that he was sitting down. He thought about his mother and this new decree that she couldn't be outside at night. A curfew. Like he and his sisters had when they were home for hols. Not that his mum ever really left the flat much anyway, except to visit their grandparents, but that wasn't the point.
"She should be able to," Alfie said to Puddle, since the kitten was the only one around. "Even if she doesn't even want to, she should be able to."
Talking aloud about things had always helped him to understand them in the past, but this... this wasn't helping at all.
