He wasn't sure what the name of the pub actually was - something like Shipwreck Paddy's or some other trash - but they'd found it once after a Quidditch match, and it had been a decent enough place with cheap pints and enough of a crowd to be entertaining. Fergus got there first, of course. Mostly because he had less of a way to travel to get there, and also because he'd been ready to go when he'd said he wanted a pint. He took up a stool at the bar, waiting for his best mate to show his face.

Rhydian had had to change out of his work clothes, for once, which accounted for most of his delay. When he arrived a few minutes after Fergus, he was looking like he'd run through his closet without much regard for matching and run right out again, which was pretty much what had happened.

"I think I know why you like this place," he said, sitting beside himand leaning his elbows on the bar. "You feel a connection, don't you? You'd have made an excellent sailor, back in the day. Really your type."

"I'd have made an excellent pirate," Fergus corrected. "Not a sailor. Sailor's have uniforms and work for the Queen." Which really didn't mean that he wouldn't have done well, just that he would never have been able to pull off the uniform. Pirates were much more dashing, anyway. Fergus smiled around the rim of the beer he'd already started, waving for the bartender's attention to get Rhydian set up. "Go blind while you were getting dressed, mate? Thought ponces were meant to be better at that."

"The officers and such had uniforms, sure. The lower-downs wore whatever they could find and got stone drunk every time they went ashore and bothered every woman they laid eyes on." He pointed to Fergus' beer so the bartender would pull him one; he didn't much care what he was drinking. "But I guess pirates aren't so different. And even men of taste can forget to do the laundry on time, you know." He ran his hand through his hair, though it was already pretty well messed-up, and watched his glass fill. "I'd meant to do it yesterday, but ... you know. Been busy?"

"It'd be hard to have less fun, I think." Work took up most of his daylight hours, sadly, and even if he didn't keep busy, exactly ... it was still an awful bore. He drank when his beer arrived, and gave Fergus a cryptic sort of look. "That would be no epic quest. I'm in it for the long term, brother. And it's a bit early to say, but I'm cautiously optimistic." And rather smug, judging by his smile.

"It's amazing what you can accomplish when everything doesn't have to happen simultaneously. You can have the symphony one night, and the shagging the next." ... "Sure I do. All of girls, though, so wouldn't be much use to you." Which was ridiculous, of course, because Fergus wouldn't have known the first thing about art if it was right in front of him and someone was explaining it. It certainly wasn't the sort of thing he was interested in.

"He likes Quidditch ..." Rhydian trailed off almost before he'd begun, aware that this was as pointless an argument as he could possibly engage in. "I like him, anyhow." It was the same as it always was - at the beginning of any relationship or anything like it, he was infatuated with the idea of someone as much as he was with the actual man. "He's quiet. He's different. You can't be throwing punches all day. You don't go for girls who drink themselves blind and get in pub fights, do you?"
