WHO: Verity & Fred Weasley
WHAT: Verity's homecoming
WHERE: Verity & Fred's house
WHEN: backdated to after this
WARNING/RATING/STATUS: None yet/PG13?/Ongoing

Charlie was asleep by the time Verity got home, the house was quiet and her heart was aching as she walked in through the front door. She'd only been gone two nights, but both had been long, painful and sleepless. She wanted to go up and hug her daughter, even though part of her prickled at listening to Oliver's patronising advice. She hadn't wanted to storm out and leave everything she loved, but she hadn't been able to listen to Fred anymore.

Spending the night at her cousin's house had just cemented her belief that he was no longer a bad guy. She didn't know what it would take to convince Fred of that fact, but she knew she had to try. Or, if he wasn't willing to drop this ridiculous hatred of her cousin, he could at least keep it to himself.

"Fred?" she called, softly, glancing upstairs in the hopes that she hadn't woken Charlie.

Fred thought about why Ange would keep that from him, then sighed, and he hugged Verity again so that he could put his face against her hair and not let her see his expression, he wasn't sure he could school it entirely to be calm. His voice was easier. "Yeah, alright. How is he?"

Fred wasn't stupid...

Taking a moment to respond, Verity swallowed past a lump in his throat. "He's well." she answered, tightening her arms around Fred. She wasn't going to mention what she had convinced herself was an overzealous guard placed there by a paranoid Trevor, nor would she bring up the expensive flat he'd allowed her to stay in. "He seems happy," she offered, tentatively. "And in love."

"Yeah? Good for him..." Fred's voice was tight, but he tried to keep any sarcasm out of it (even though he thought they both knew it was there). "You were alright there, then?" and that was real concern, coming through. "I mean, rested up and all...." This pregnancy was only about a thousand times worse than with Charlie...

"Yes," Verity also didn't need to mention that Trevor's... expression of said love had kept her up. "He was perfectly welcoming, didn't make me sleep outside or anything. I had a lovely room, comfortable bed and a real breakfast." That she'd cooked, but that was neither here nor there.

She sighed, and buried her face in his shirt. "I know he had nothing to do with this, Fred. I promise you. He hates the Carrows as much as we do."

Fred... did not believe that at all. But what good would arguing do? It was not in The Plan to start that again. In fact, the whole plan was pretty much "avoid getting into that fight again."

All in all, it wasn't a very detailed plan.

"Right. Alright. I'd never said we were sure... And anyone who hates Carrow is on our side for now, aye?"

Verity could hear the hesitance in Fred's voice, but that he'd said it, with a relatively level tone, spoke volumes. She grinned, widely, pushing herself up onto her toes to snog him, letting out a little happy sigh into the kiss before dropping back down and hugging him tightly.

"I don't want him around all the time," she said, honestly. "I don't want to spend hols with him or anything. I'd just like to be able to have lunch with him without feeling like I have to hide it from you." She pulled back, slightly and looked up at him. "Can we agree on that?" And Charlie, but that could come later.

It was time to pick his battles. He'd never want his daughter around him, but getting Verity to agree not to see him wasn't going to happen, and he was more invested in making sure his wife didn't want to leave him than he was in fighting her on that.

"Fine," he said again, and he sounded almost as if he meant it. Then he grinned, eyebrow arching up. "So I get snogged for that, do I? I think he's a prince, then."

Making a show of doing so, Verity reached down and traced her fingers over the button on Fred's pants. "I missed you," she said, trying to make her voice sultry instead of tearful. She couldn't quite fit in Fred's arms the way she used to, what with her rounded stomach in the way, but she pressed up against him as best she could.
