WHO: Verity Weasley & Trevor Scabior
WHAT: Verity's upset and seeks comfort from her favourite cousin
WHERE: Trev's house
WHEN: after this
WARNING/RATING/STATUS: cursing probably, lots of tears definitely/PG13?/Ongoing

Brushing away tears, Verity took a deep breath, trying to calm herself as she walked away from Angelina's flat. Knockturn was out, she couldn't go wandering around there when Alicia had just been kidnapped. It was late enough that Trevor might not be there, she couldn't count that he'd happen along to protect her. His house, well his parent's house really, was the only other option she had.

She closed her eyes and spun in place, against her judgement, just wanting to be away from Fred at that moment. She'd spent plenty of time at the Scabior manor when she was younger, but hadn't been there in many years. Popping into existence, she found it hadn't changed much and wrapped her sweater around herself, making her way up the driveway to the front door.

She didn't hear the guard behind her until it was too late, a slight crunching step, dislodging of the gravel on the driveway and she spun around, heart in her throat. Only halfway through the turn, the spell hit her and she crumpled, unconscious, to the cold ground.

"Fred," she took a deep shuddery breath, ducking her head and bringing her knees up to her chest. "He keeps blaming you for everything that goes wrong, for Alicia, for everything. He doesn't want me to see you, he doesn't want Charlie around you, but you're my cousin. You're family! Why can't he understand that!"

"Because he's a twit," Trevor responded promptly, pulling the cork from his bottle and tossing it on the table. He took a swig straight from the bottle before he passed it to his cousin. She couldn't have really expected a different sort of response.

Automatically taking the bottle from his hand as he offered it, she hesitated before following his lead and taking a small swig, sucking in a breath as the alcohol burnt down her throat. "He hates you," she continued, passing the bottle back and leaning against the back of the couch. "I couldn't even stand looking at him anymore, I just had to get away from him. I don't understand it."

"Because he's a twit," Trevor reiterated, he's tone deviating only slightly as he felt was pointing out the obvious again. He took a swig and looked at her, the fact she was moments away from a breakdown was obvious even to him. "You're better'n 'im, I've told you that."

Curling her arms around herself, she tucked one leg underneath her and stared across the couch at Trevor. "I'm not. You only think that because he's a blood traitor," she responded, the air quotes evident in her voice. Trevor didn't like Fred either, it was quite obvious, but she couldn't imagine her cousin saying things like Fred had.

"Well, 'e is," he nodded, overlooking the fact that she hadn't actually been agreeing with his view. He watched her for a moment, in between sips, more intrigued by this conversation than any she'd sprung on him in the past. "And you are." Even for all her flaws he believed she was well above Weasley's station. "I've said it from the beginning."

Verity snorted, lightly, the tiniest smile curling her lips for a moment. "Trevor," she started, after a silence. "I don't know what to do." She could feel the tears building, stinging her nose, but was determined to keep them away for as long as she could.

Why did she insist on coming to him with these things? Trevor took another sip and inwardly cursed Gretchen for not being around. Even if she would have spent most of the time snickering at him she still handled these things better than he did. "That's shite," he said, going for the direct route. "That you don't know. Everyone 'as some bloody clue what they want. Or they at least know when they don't 'ave it. So what is you want?" He took another sip before adding. "'Cause you seem so fuckin' 'appy with things right now."

"I do love him," she started, unable to stop the tears. "I know you don't like that but I do, I can't help it. I just don't understand..." she trailed off, shaking her head and wiping her eyes. "It's not like I want you around all the time, it's not like I think you'll babysit or come round for Christmas, but for him to tell me I can't see you, forbid me from bringing my own daughter around... to blame you for Alicia's disappearance, for everything that goes wrong."

If Fred wasn't going to change his mind about Trevor, she didn't know what she wanted. She could hardly believe that Trevor seemed to be the thing she might leave her husband over, but -

Verity sucked in a breath. Leave Fred? She couldn't possibly! Why had she even thought that? "I can't leave him," she stated, wiping her eyes. "I honestly can't, Trevor, I have nothing. I don't own the house, or the business, I don't have any money. There's no way I could leave him, with a kid and another on the way and be on my own."

Trevor raised an eyebrow, honestly interested that she was the one to bring up the concept of leaving Weasley instead of him. Of course he'd been thinking along those lines but he hadn't said the words, simply that she should do what she wanted. "You're an idiot, aren't you?" he said, passing back the bottle as his only effort to soften the blow. "To not keep you're own share of the gold." That much should have been common sense even if she didn't own the place, you keep what you earn. "I don't know what to tell you Ver,"he said with a shrug. "Other than figure out what the fuck it is you want and do it."

"I want..." Verity took the bottle from him and took one more tiny sip before returning it to him. "I want to be able to come visit you whenever I like and I want it to be our choice if you want something to do with Charlie. I want Fred to not hate you."

She yawned hugely, pulling her other leg up and sliding down, laying her head on Trevor's shoulder. "And right now, I want to go to sleep. I guess I could go back to Ange's... although Fred's probably still there," she paused, allowing her eyes to slip shut for a moment. "Could I stay here?"

Surprised when she leaned against him, he turned and looked down at the blond head on his shoulder, rolling his eyes. "Yeah, alright," he nodded, not up to dealing with the drama of kicking his weepy cousin out into the dark. He was also not about to let the chance to end this conversation pass him by.

He slipped out from under her shoulder and recorked the bottle, leaving it on the coffee table. "There's a bed up 'ere," he said, heading for the stairs, assuming she'd either pass out or follow.

Pushing off the couch, Verity trailed after him up the stairs, yawning deeply. Fred didn't know what he was talking about, she shook her head, following Trevor down the hall and pausing outside the room he stopped in front of. Trevor didn't have to talk to her, he didn't have to let her stay at his house, hell, he didn't even have to let her in! And yet he'd done all that. He couldn't be evil like Fred thought.

"Thank you," Verity smiled a small, wavery smile and pushed up on her toes to hug him tightly. "I'll make you breakfast in the morning," she paused, dropping back to her feet and glancing up and down the hall. "Unless Gretchen is here?" She hadn't seen the other woman, which struck her as odd, now that she noticed it. Gretchen had almost always been around Trevor before. She frowned slightly, hoping her cousin and his... friend, weren't fighting too.

Of course there were more hugs. "Yeah," he waited for her to pull back. "She's not," he answered, surprised it took her that long to bring up his partner. He didn't offer up any details and managed to keep his tone mostly level, even though he was still irritated at the whole debacle. The last thing he was going to do, however, was delve into that discussion with Verity of all people. Even if she hadn't just made him aware she was connected with the girl he'd picked up for Carrow. Which only made sense, the way things seemed to be going for him.

"She's not?" Verity suddenly felt a pang of guilt, feeling horrid for barging into his house and crying at him without even asking if everything was alright with him! "Is everything alright?"

"It's fine." He ignored her obvious interest and fiddled with his pocket watch chain. "She's elsewhere." Where, he wasn't quite sure, though he had an idea. There were only a number of places she was likely to be but the fact he didn't know exactly where did bother him more than he'd like.

"Well," Verity hugged him quickly, then stepped back to open the door to the bedroom Trevor was allowing her to use. "If you need anything," she jerked her thumb behind her and offered up a smile.

She hesitated for a moment, before reaching out and patting his arm. "I promise: huge breakfast tomorrow."

"Yeah, sure," Trev waited for the huge to pass before heading toward his own room. She called out about breakfast and he merely waved his, not even turning back. "I like bacon."
