WHO Eddie Carmichael, Cat, Oriel Summerby, Tweak
WHAT Eddie is bringing Cat over to Oriel's so that Tweak can meet her.
WHEN Afternoon
WHERE Oriel's.
RATING/WARNING Low. Incomplete.

After talking with Oriel about Tweak the kitten, Eddie had talked to Cat about the possibility of her meeting the kitten. Cat was territorial--when it came to Eddie. But she had met the neighbor's cat once and they had gotten along all right, and besides, if Cat decided to be bad, Eddie could simply just pick her up; she would not hurt him.

Cat, for her part, was snoozing away in her carrier. She didn't like the thing much, but Eddie had been using it to carry her everywhere, not just to the vet's, so she wasn't freaking out or scared. In fact, she was... well, snoozing. Eddie set the carrier down gently, although Cat awoke anyway, and knocked on the door.

Tweak was currently under the sofa, where he had chased one of his balls, and had apparently decided that that was the best place to corner the rolley thing. Oriel was sitting on the sofa, and flipping through the latest edition of the Daily Prophet. Because despite working for the Quibbler, he did read the Prophet as well. Most of the time.

Oriel didn't hear the knock, because of course he couldn't. He however had spells set up to help him with such things. A bracelet he wore around his wrist that warmed when there was something that needed his attention, and flashed different colours depending on what it was. Blue meant someone was knocking at the door, so as soon he noticed that, he set the paper down and went to answer.

He crossed his flat quickly and unlocked the door before opening it, smiling at Eddie on the other side. "Hello," he greeted. "Come in." He stepped back so the other could do just that, shutting the door behind him.

"Nice place," Eddie said, nodding his hello at Oriel. He set Cat's carrier down on the floor. "This is Cat. Cat, this is Oriel. He has someone he'd like you to meet." He opened the carrier and lifted Cat up; the furry orange cat purred and pawed at his face, then, at his nudging, looked over at Oriel curiously.

Oriel's eyes followed him so he could read the man's lips. "Hi, Cat," he said, in his voice that was always a bit flat. Inflections were things he had never been able to learn. He smiled, and reached down to pet the cat, running his fingers through the soft orange fur.

Tweak, sensing the other cat, had come out from under the couch and was looking very intensely at Cat. "This is Tweak," Oriel said, his fingers signing the words as he spoke them, out of habit.

Cat sniffed at Oriel's hand, then, after some hesitation, learned into his hand and continued purring. When Tweak approached, Cat jumped out of Eddie's grasp and went over to investigate the strange, tiny new creature. Cat was much larger than Tweak, being a few years old already, but Eddie cautioned her to be nice to the kitten.

"I wouldn't worry about her. She's a sweetheart. She just wants my attention twenty-four hours of the day, unless, of course, she is giving her attention to something else." He noticed Oriel doing something with his hands and watched curiously. "Ah--what is that, exactly, if you don't mind?" Once a Ravenclaw, always a Ravenclaw, and Eddie was intrigued by something he did not know about.

Tweak might have been tiny, but he was bold enough. He walked right up to the adult cat and sniffed at him, making a soft 'mrrring' sound in the back of his throat. But he didn't seem terribly afraid. Tweak didn't seem much afraid of anything.

"Tweak is pretty friendly." So far at least, Oriel reackoned. He was good with the Pygmy Puff and hadn't done anything to the budgies beyond stare at them with interest. Same with Ralph, the mouse. Who was currently running on his wheel.

He looked down and realized what Eddie was referring to. His hands. "Sign language," he replied, eyes drawing back upwards. "I'm deaf." Which explained the way his voice sounded as well.

Eddie watched as Tweak and Cat sniffed each other out. Cat, like her owner--or rather, like the one she owned--was intrigued by new things, and she seemed intent on discovering everything she could about Tweak. Cat stared at the kitten with an interested gaze, idly flicking her tail back and forth. Eddie had long since learned to distinguish between the interested tail flick and the angry tail flick, and this one was definitely not the latter. Cat seemed content to let Tweak sniff her out first, as she was quite a confident cat, much like the human who fed and sheltered and loved her.

Eddie "ahhh'd" as understanding dawned upon him. He had never known anybody who was deaf, or even hard of hearing, and had never even seen anyone sign before. He nodded, then, unable to stop the curiosity that had earned him his old House, continued: "Is it difficult to sign and speak at the same time?"

Tweak was intrigued by everything. From other living creatures down to loose pieces of thread. It was part and parcel of being feline and also of being so young. Tweak did sniff - poked his nose right up against Cat's nose and then walked around her to sniff along her side.

Oriel tilted his head to the side and then shook it. "Not really. I've never known any different." He had learned to sign before he had learned to speak, because speech had been more difficult for him. Sign was his first language - Irish Sign Language, and then British. "I don't even notice I'm doing it, all the time."

Cat continued to sit calmly, allowing Tweak to investigate as he pleased. She flicked her tail all the while, observing the kitten. Because Eddie was comfortable in this situation, it seemed to filter through to Cat, and as a result, she was comfortable as well.

"I see. That's quite impressive, I must say. So..." he had to admit; other than being a fellow pet owner, he really didn't know anything at all about Oriel. The kid was so young; Eddie didn't even remember him from school in the slightest. Maybe they hadn't even been there at the same time. Also, because Oriel was male and not female, Eddie couldn't jump into his usual charming ways, because, well--he didn't swing that way.

There was much investigation on Tweak's part as he sniffed all around Cat, until finally, the twitching, flicking tail became far too much for the kitten to resist, and he pounced on it, attempting to capture it.

Oriel just smiled and shrugged his shoulders a little bit. He didn't think it was impressive, but to him it was just life as he knew it. He tilted his head to the side. "Do you want to sit down?" he offered, because there was no need for them to stand there while the cats played. Oriel went to the living area of his flat and sat down in one of the chairs.

When her tail was unexpectedly pounced upon, Cat jumped up and let out a loud angry cat sound, but Eddie cautioned her with a look and she glared back at Eddie, though she desisted. Eddie and Cat had a mutual understanding of behavior and she usually listened to him. Instead, Cat got up and sniffed Tweak, trying to make more sense of the little kitten that had pounced on her so.

"Ah, thank you," Eddie said, and he took a seat in a comfortable chair and watched the cats. "Ah... which year did you finish school? I don't recall seeing you."
