Entry tags:2003:9, megan jones, zacharias smith

Who: Megan Jones and Zacharias Smith
When: September 15th. Evening.
Where: Megan's place/the skies!
What: Megan and Zacharias go for a ride.
Rating: Lowish. Will change as necessary.
Status: Incomplete/Closed.

Megan came home from a long day at work. Her back was killing at the moment, but moving a bunch of bags of dragon dung would do that to a girl. As she entered the door she was greeted by a small bark and a very happy Diana. Megan bent down and played with her for a moment, before letting the dog outside into the back yard for a while. The poor girl must have been crossing her legs all day. After checking for accidents in the living room, she quickly went into her room to change and get ready for the rest of the evening. She changed into her favourite pair of denims, and her trusty blue sweater Megan sat herself down on the couch for a few moments looking over at her broom.

It had been almost too long since she had gotten on it, even just to fly around. Truth was, it brought back a lot of memories. Some good, she'd always loved the game and to fly. Okay, she wasn't the best, but that was okay with her. She'd been on the reserve team during school for a long time as Keeper, but finally made it her seventh year full time. Thinking of that just made her think of all of the other stuff that happened that year. Before she could allow herself to start down that dark road she pawing at the back door. Thankful for the distraction Megan bolted up to let Diana in. Soon after she heard a knock at the front door.

"Just come in Z, door's open!" she yelled as she placed Diana's dinner in her bowl, hoping that the kibble would be enough of a distraction as she wouldn't try to jump on her friend. She walked out of her small kitchen and walked into the living room to greet her friend. "I'm really glad you were free tonight." she said welcoming her friend into her house. It wasn't the biggest of places, in fact it was pretty small, but the renting price was right, and she did her best to make it her home.

The food hadn't worked. Diana followed right on Megan's heels when she heard Zacharias's voice. Luckily, she just walked right up him, sat down, and started wagging her tail as if to say See! I'm being good. Now pet me my new best friend ever. Megan let out a little relived laugh. "That's her alright. See, and she didn't even jump!"

Megan walked over to her old broom and picked it up. Man did it feel good to have in her hands again. For a second she weigh it, balanced it between her fingers, but all the while not really looking at it. "Guess its' just like riding a bike huh? Hopefully I won't fall off and make an ass out myself." she said lightly.

Zacharias was more of a cat person than a dog person (because cats took care of themselves, which he appreciated in an animal). But he didn't have anything against dogs, and he crouched down so he could pet Diana on the head and let her sniff - and lick - his hand.

"How has it been, having her around?" he asked as he slid his fingers over the warm fur, and then rightened himself to stand once again, taking hold of his broomstick once more. "I think it is one of those things you don't ever quite forget." He knew he could never, in a million years, forget how to fly.

Megan titled her head just so slightly to watch Zacharias and her puppy. "It's been nice actually." she said simply. "It's just kind of nice to have someone to come home to, that depends on me." she let out a small little embarrassed laugh. "Plus, she keeps me pretty in shape, I talk her for a long run just about every day." she smiled and nodded towards the back door as she used her wand to lock the front on her way out into the back yard.

"I hope so. I'm a little embarrassed that it's been a few years since I've been up there." she said looking up at the nights sky. Always safer to fly at night. Most muggles wouldn't even know what they see if they were to whiz by.

"Mmm, I imagine the company is nice," Zacharias agreed as he ruffled the pup's fur a bit more before he stood. He had never had pets, not really. Horses - which he still had, at his parents' property. But those were hardly the same. A horse didn't come and sit on your bed. Unless you wanted a broken bed and a room that smelled like horse.

"I'm sure it will all come back to you in no time," he said as he followed her out the back door, into the evening air. Taking a moment to glance at the sky, the glossy moon, the starts that twinkled out. He dropped one end of his broomstick and tossed a leg over.

"It is. Though, if I start talking for her, just hit me upside the head and get me back to reality, yeah?" she said locking up the back.

She looked up as well before mounting her broom. "Should be a good night." she noted. Megan took a deep breath as she looked over at her friend. "Now or never." she shrugged as she concentrated and before she knew it she was up in the air. As if she had been on it yesterday. She wobbled just a little bit the higher she rose, but over all, it wasn't too bad. She gave Zacharias a small excited smile. "Which direction do you want to go?" she asked.

"I shall do that," Zacharias promised, and then laughed at another thought that entered his mind. "Or if you start dressing her to match you." That was always unfortunate when people did that. He was sure the dogs were terribly embarassed as well!

He breathed in the crisp clean air, of lingering summer, and the edge of oncoming fall. It really was a nice time of year. "Perfect night for it," he agreed with a quick nod of his head as he felt his broomstick rise under him.

"Mmm. West?" he suggested, and he nodded his head that was before he kicked off the ground, going for a gentle, easy lift into the air.

Megan stopped for a moment letting her eyes grow wide. "Oh dear, everyone will know I've gone full on mental if I ever doing that to that poor dog." she said shaking her head. She never saw the point in it. Dressing up little kids, okay that was cute, but pets? Besides she was sure that if she ever tried to do that to Diana, Diana would eat the clothes in a matter of moments.

Megan watched Zacharias lift off as she stabilized her self a little more. Once he was on the same height level as her, she pointed her broom towards the west. "First one to the the motorway wins." she said a mischievous grin forming on her face, not really wasting any time. She was ready to get back into this, and she'd never been the type to tip-toe into things. No, Megan Jones dove into things, usually head first.

"They will. You'll be taken to Mungo's for evaluation, and poor Diana will be the laughing stock of the doggy world," Zacharias grinned. He had never understood why some people put clothes on animals. They had fur, they didn't need clothes.

But then, there were a lot of things that he didn't understand about some people.

"Oh, you're on," he said, flashing a grin at her before he lowered himself down closer to the broomstick and took off in that direction, the air whipping around him.

"And I guess we can't have that so I guess I have no option but to retain my sanity." she laughed.

Megan bent down low, a serious face forming at first as she followed closely behind Zacharias. She kept looking down, seeing seeing the tops of trees and houses zoom by. The feeling of the wind whipping her hair back was the type of freedom she was looking to get right now. She kept navigating her way, going as fast as she dared the to get to the motorway first. For someone who hadn't been on a broom in ages, she was doing pretty good keeping up with the professional quiddich player.

But in the end it was Zacharias who beat her to the road, but she was on his tail the whole time. "Damn!" she said excitedly laughing the whole time. "Should have known better. I'll get you on the way home!" she said as she slowed down as she kept going west.

There were so many things that Zacharias loved about flying. He liked how the air whistled, really whistled, when you were flying fast. How cool the air was as it streamed around. How small things looked below, and how it seemed like you could fly up right into the clouds if you wanted.

He slowed when he reached the motorway and then turned around to slow a bit, coming about full circle as he started to fly alongside of Megan. "That was pretty good," he said with a grin. "Don't know how you've gone so long without this." He hardly let a single day go by without flying.

"Thanks." she said taking in a deep breath of the crisp fresh air. "I have no idea either. I mean,it wasn't easy at first, I just didn't have the time," or really just lacked motivation to she thought. "then before I knew it it was yesterday and I got the urge to fly again." she said shrugging.

"Everything going alright? With getting ready for the new season and all that jazz?" Megan asked, with the season so close to starting she was beginning to wonder how much she would start to see of her friends who were playing still.

"Well I hear you on the time thing." Like could get so busy, and all of a sudden weeks had passed, or months. Zacharias was sometimes amazed by it. Time seemed to stretch forever when you were a child, and now, as an adult, it whizzed on by.

"Oh things are going well. The season's going to be a bit late starting this year, because of the World Cup," he explained with a grin. Otherwise, the season would have been starting up! "But there's preseason games and what not." Which would tide him over. "How's your work going?"

"Oh, yeah I think I remember reading something about that in the paper." Megan said trying to recall just what she had read exactly. "Work's work I guess." she shrugged. "It's been keeping me pretty busy, what with it being one of the massive re-potting season and all." she paused deciding to be completely honest, as she was ninety-five percent of the time anyway.

"I think I'm just ready for a nice long holiday. I think now that the kiddies are all back in school, and things usually slow down right before Halloween, so hopefully I can take a few days off..." she sort of trailed off there for a moment.

"True. Must be quite a busy time of the year," Zacharias guessed. It was the final harvest for some things, and a time to get ready to bring things in from the cold. He remembered doing that in Herbology Class, back when he had taken it.

"I think you deserve a few days off. Honestly, the whole lot of you do," he said, meaning their Hufflepuff friends. Susan and Ernie always worked to the bone, and Eloise was busy and Hannah and then there was Wayne.. well, who knew what was up with him.

"The month leading back to school was busy, but now that they're all gone now, it's pretty steady." she shrugged. She loved her job, and what more, she was good at her job which made it all the more enjoyable. However, some days she came home and her feet were about ready to kill her from just being on them all day. Thankfully they had just reversed their "no trainer" policy.

"Why thank you." she said meaning it. "I'm thinking of taking a whole week and going cold weather camping somewhere. Not sure where yet, somewhere near some mountains." she said thinking maybe somewhere in back in Wales, or maybe even somewhere else in Europe. She didn't know yet, she hadn't gotten much further than thinking of the idea.

"Cold weather camping?" Zacharias echoed, eyebrows arching. "Impressive." He had always thought camping a bit odd. Unless one was using a fully furnished tent, of course, with all the amenities and of course, indoor plumbing. But that was just him.

"Well be sure to take photographs and then you can wow us with tales of your outdoor adventures when you're back," he teased as they flew at a more leisurely pace.

"Why thank you. I've been wanting to do it for ages. Dad used to take Rhys and I every once in a while. Mum used to throw a fit, but we always came back with all of our appendages, so I really don't see why she made such a big deal out of it." Megan shrugged.

"Oh, I will. Trust me, they'll be so many pictures you won't know what to do with them." she teased a little.
