Who: Niki, Greg and Theo
When: That afternoon
Where:
What: Niki bumps into Greg and Theo out on a small grocery shop
Rating: PG?
Status: Closed | Incomplete

People may have argued that Theo was in no condition to be outside in public, even with Greg by his side. That Greg hadn't been known for making sensible decisions - or any decisions - before, and that his decision to take his mentally challenged Death Eater scum boyfriend out among good folk was also a mistake; 'may have argued' could stand for 'actually shouted that', especially in the nicer parts of town where one witch had no hesitation in doing just that.

Following it up by calling Greg a 'Death eater convict piece of scum' was probably not a good idea because it would seem that Theo had issues with anyone talking to his boyfriend that way. Luckily, his physical self wasn't as strong as his mind was passionate and he'd been carried away without doing any damage, especially as he was trying to use his magic (some curse that was an Unforgivable in Romania) but he didn't have a wand.

Knockturn was a little more forgiving of - or better at ignoring - the pair. They'd really only been out for fifteen minutes and Theo was already tired, the fight and the physical exertion of being outside wearing him out almost as much as the mental strain this was having on him did. He stopped walking in the middle of an alley to put his arms round Greg's neck and bury his head in against the broad chest like a tired child. "Back to my head, want to go, trees and..." he mumbled softly.

Greg shifted on his feet, slightly impatient and slightly uncomfortable. It was like there was a strange language being spoken, and he turned his head down to Theo, his face still frowning as he looked to him for confirmation, "Mouse?" he asked, letting his eyes rest on Theo for a moment. But as he heard his last name come from the other's lips, his attention shifted and he frowned slightly, puzzled that he was know by this unfamiliar looking person.

"Who are you? You know us?" he asked, not nearly as hostile as he'd been a moment before.

Theo started at the touch, shuddered at the contact and leaned back into Greg a little more instinctively, as though he were being threatened. Niki's correction brought made him defensive though, because Greg was nothing like his father and that's who that was, surely, it was, and Theo wasn't thinking about how he knew that.

"Greg." he snapped, and then, gentler. "My Greg."

He wasn't really able to confirm or deny the nickname to Greg, partially because he wasn't sure that it referred to him. He reached up to try and thumb the expression away from his boyfriend's face though.

"Greg," Niki echoed, not sounding too sure of that face. Probably because he hadn't heard Goyle called much else but Goyle all through school.

"Me?" he asked when Goyle adressed him, and he blew out a little snorting noise.

"I know him. I know you." He pointed, vaguely, at the both of them, and then let his hand drop. "I'm Niki." A pause and then, "Nikolai. Urquhart." Who had once been so... normal. Clean cut, well dressed, posh, Quidditch player, all that. And now he was a little rag-tag thing with a glazed look in his eyes.

"Urquhart? Shit man, you look...different," Greg said, even as he began to relax. Theo's fingers on his face, fretting and smoothing at his grimace he tried to ignore at first. But the attention was encouraging; it meant Theo was headed towards getting better he thought. He found his mouth twitching into a grin, a fond expression just for Theo, and he looked at Theo again, endearingly and let his grasp on him loosen.

He realized that Niki was still there and tried to include him slightly, "So, how are you?"

Theo half-listened to Niki speak, returning the smile Greg gave him and dropping his hand from Greg's face, apparently satisfied that he'd chased the frown away.

He leaned back in against Greg but it was partly exhaustion that had him do this now; independent and he'd stumble.

"No." he said suddenly, gripping onto Greg's sleeve and giving Niki a once over. "No, no, he's not... he can't know me." He said, his tone strangely confused. Or maybe not so strangely. "He doesn't know, he can't, I died."

"Yes," Niki agreed, because he had been told that enough times. 'You look different' was a phrase he heard often. Along with 'you look weird' from people who were less tactful, and sometimes just 'what the fuck happened to you?!'.

"You look..." Niki had to contemplate this, looking up Greg again before he decided. "Tall." Although maybe he wasn't the best judge, being a bit below average height himself. And many people looked tall compared to teeny Theo.

One thing the odd former Slytherin did not get was Theodore's strange insistance that he was dead. "You're not dead," he said. He glanced at Greg, wondering if he knew why.

Greg gave a small snort, "I was always taller than you, Urquhart," he responded, acknowledging the fellow Slyrtherin and deciding that he was acceptable, having been in their house and all. Greg's arm encircled Theo still, and he gave him a small squeeze,"Yes, yes, gone with old and in withe new. Theo, it's Niki Urquhart. You remember him," and his eyes shifted to Niki's face and he addressed the other boy, "Obviously, he's not dead. Just...tired. Theo, you're a bit wore out. Want we should go get something to drink?" He asked, the invitation open to Niki as well, "After we get our shopping done?"

Greg was not about to confide in this other bloke, especially about Theo's fragile state.

Theo looked up at Greg as Niki stated him tall, but was happy to agree. "Tall, my Greg's tall and this Greg is tall then this is my Greg then, yes." he mumbled quietly to himself, hugging onto Greg's arm.

He snapped out of it when Greg squeezed to get his attention and looked over at Niki without comprehension or recognition that went past their most recent meetings.

"Oh, I do?" he said, simply accepting what Greg said as fact and watching the other boy from where he was tucked in to Greg's side.

He nodded agreement to Greg (although he really had no idea what it was he was nodding to) but then had to protest... "I died, I'm dead, you know." he insisted, sounding a little distressed. "You took me from my head, remember? And now he can't come near. Remember?!"

"Well. Yes," Niki decided to allow this as a truth. Goyle had always been taller than him. And likely always would be, unless some spell went awry to shrink Goyle, or stretch him. And that was fairly unlikely.

"He's not dead," he agreed, and he reached out and patted Theodore's head. Almost in a fond manner - and rather like the way someone would pat a puppy or a kitten. "You're not dead," he added, for good measure, wondering why Theo was so insistant on that particular point of non-living.

Because he was awfully spry for a dead guy.

"A drink would be good. I could use one. A drink," he wasn't sure the offer was meant for him too, or just Theodore alone, but he took it!

Greg was not too sure he approved of Niki approaching them closer, let alone touching Theo's head and he started to move to put up a hand, so as to brush Niki's touch away from Theo protectively. But he stopped himself, as it seemed to be an innocent enough move, "We've got to nip in here," he said, gesturing to a small shop, "And then we can go."

Greg chewed on his lip for a moment, and almost dismissed the idea; he knew he'd get it done faster without Theo.

"Theo, want to wait here a moment with Niki? I'll just be a moment," he said, and his eyes turned to rest on Niki, "I'll be right back if you can watch him a moment. You'll need to give him an arm; he's kind of weak. Then, we can go get something to drink and maybe something to eat. Okay Theo?"

He paused, ready to shift Theo to Niki for less than a minute so he could dash into the shop.

Theo flinched a little at the pat, shying in against Greg but only because the hand movement was unexpected; he relaxed when it was just a pat.

He mirrored Greg's movement, chewing fretfully at his lip as well as Greg thought, tearing already torn skin further and lapping at the small amount of blood that leaked out.

He looked from Greg to Niki and back as the question was asked and he wanted to stay with Greg but he knew Greg wanted him to stay out here. "Hurry." he said plaintively. "If they know you're there they'll come for you... I'll stand guard, I'll fight them off." he promised, going up on tiptoes for a kiss, and who the hell knew where in his head he was right now.

Niki nodded his head. "I can give him an arm," he said after deciding that Goyle probably didn't mean that in a literal sense. Because he didn't want to take his arm off, that would be painful.

He stepped closer to Theodore so he could slide an arm around his waist. Niki wasn't particularly large, but Theodore was smaller still, so it was hardly difficult at all.

"We'll be right here," he said, not minding Theodore's ramblings.

Greg's lips briefly brushed Theo's and he let him go, having felt Niki's arm moving around Theo as his left. And without a backwards glance, Greg strode into the shop disappearing into the dark opening.

Theo made the attempt to stand tall on his own but his strength was so much less than it had been and he slumped in against Nik's skinny waist, clinging even while he watched the black mouth of the shop front that had swallowed Greg whole, waiting for him to come out, humming something in a tone that was purely anxious.

He started biting on his nails after a while, or chewed at what was left of them anyway, seemingly unaware that he was hanging from Nik's arm. "They took him." he said after a minute, edgily. "They took him... they... they have him."

Niki gave a little shake of his head, and strands of black hair fell right into his eyes. He stuck out his lower lip and blew upwards to ruffle the hair out of his vision.

"They didn't. Take them." Whoever 'they' were, but Niki wasn't about to argue that. There were many 'theys'. Mysterious, faceless entitites out there in the world.

"He's too big. And strong. To take."

Theo flinched again as Nik blew the hair out of his eyes, not quite getting what was going on, but then made restless by the return to the topic.

"He isn't!" Theo argued, wriggling away a little in what was a mix of panic and anger. "He's vulnerable, he is, they'll come and take him, needle claws and teeth and-" he cut himself off, struggling again.

Niki let out a little squwak of surprise because suddenly Theodore was squirming and wriggling against him like an anxious puppy trying to get to the floor.

"He is not. He's big. He's strong. Mouse. Mouse. Mouse," he repeated the nickname as he tried to keep a hold on the smaller, wiggly boy.

"No, that's no protection, that's no protection!" Theo said more insistent, more panicked, his energy draining from him and making him sink to the ground at Niki's feet, leaning back against the wall. "Torn apart, all torn apart, they bit off his head." he whimpered mournfully.

"Noo," Niki cooed softly, and when Theodore slithered down to the ground, he crouched down with him, so he could curl his arms around him in a protective manner. He really did think of Theodore as some sort of small animal, like a mouse, and he liked mice.

"He's okay," he said, lifting a hand to stroke through his hair again, petting him softly.

Greg had made his purchases, as quickly as he could. The clerk had had to go in the back, to find the new shipment that had come in. And the entire time, Greg had been trying to wait patiently, tapping his fingers on the counter.

When it seemed like ages, the man finally emerged. Greg quickly bought the bag of tea, a tea meant to help Theo sleep, and he headed to the exit, worried about what he would find. The sight that met his eyes did nothing to ease those fears.

"Theo! Bloody hell," he said, cursing under his breath so he wouldn't alarm Theo more, "Heh! Theo! What's this? Let's get up, buddy," he said as he approached a crumpled Theo who was clearly distressed. Greg glanced at Niki, not blaming him but clearly not too impressed, "I guess he was a bit much," he offered as he crouched down himself.

"Theo, come here," he said, putting out an empty had to the other.

Theo seemed almost about to growl at Niki when Greg appeared and his paranoid worries vanished. He relaxed in Niki's hug and responded in like to Greg's jovial tone, reaching for Greg's hand and painstakingly pulling himself up, a move that taxed him pitifully.

"You're okay." he said breathlessly, feeling Greg's face and chest to reassure himself. "They didn't, no tears, no bruising... they didn't get you." he sounded relieved.

"He thought they took you. Hurt you," Niki explained as he climbed to his feet once again, not bothering to brush away the little bitds of dirt on his knees that came from the ground.

"What did you buy?" he asked nosily, noting that Greg had emerged from the store with a bag. Niki rocked on his feet, back on his heels and then up on his toes again, never quite good at keeping still.

Greg helped Theo climb to his feet, his arm going around his waist, "Yeah, I'm okay. No tears. Nothing like that. Just the tea," he said, raising the bag for Niki and Theo to see, "Just our night time tea," he offered and he took in a big breath and exhaled as everything seemed to be sorted back to right.

"Theo, I'm starving. I want a banger and some ale. What say you?" and he looked over at Niki, "I owe you one, a drink that is. You coming?" he said, as he turned Theo towards the street. They'd go to the Leaky he supposed; he hoped there'd be no public display again.

Theo's attention was pinned to the bag Greg lifted up until he yawned hugely, leaning back against Greg again as though they had never moved.

"I don't want to eat." he said promptly. He'd been doing a little better in that Greg had managed to get him to drink things, but solid food was still a no-no - it helped that Greg didn't hold his mouth open and force it down his throat, even if it had taken more than seven hours for Theo to take a sip of the first cup since leaving St Mungo's.

"But eating is good," Niki said as he fell into step with the others, and they made their way down towards the Leaky Cauldron. He was amiable enough to the idea, and always liked a drink.

"You could have soup. Soup is good when you're sick," he rambled a little bit. Theodore was sick, he thought. Maybe not in a cold way, but somehow, he seemed sick. And sick people needed to have soup. And juice and tea as well.

Greg led them along, and only grunted at Niki's suggestion; knowing what Theo eat was still a mystery to him and he hoped that he could at least get the other to pick at something. Besides, with school starting soon, going out like this was not going to be as easy.

Greg let them out into Diagon Alley, his arm around Theo's thin side, "So, Urquhart, what are you doing out today?"

He thought he could ask that; it was a common enough question when one bumped into others.

Theo shook his head adamantly against the idea of eating - he was controlling this, nothing was getting into him without his say so. Greg's silence in the matter stopped Theo escalating and the way he'd been shaking his head made him a little dizzy so he stopped and stumbled in against Greg's side, a trip that made barely any difference.
