Who: Alfie & Julien
What: Random meeting in the library, Jule's drools. No really. Okay, not really, but he's certainly asleep.
Where: The Library
When: Saturday?! Wtf Julien?
Warnings: TBA

School had barely started and Julien was already in over his head; he'd done all his own homework already but was working on some test papers and some extra curriculur stuff all of his own. He still didn't feel like he knew enough tough - he hadn't been able to answer any questions in class and all he'd wanted was to slip away, let the floor open up and swallow him because for all his studying he couldn't give an answer when it was needed.

He wanted a Daydream Charm really, that's what he needed. A charm to just let him disappear into a nowhere land for a while, somewhere where nothing happened and he could just be himself and have that be good enough.

He'd been up so late the night before, groggy and grumpy from want of the things that his head drooped lower and lower to the page he was studying until ten minutes later found him asleep, silent and breathing softly with his head pillowed on his arm, the other lax with a quill slipping from it.

Julien stirred a little as Alfie sat beside him, but he woke up with a sudden intake of breath, blinking confusedly around as Alfie shook him awake. "Hmmwassa?" he asked, acting more like the teenage boy he actually was than he ever did when he was already awake. He looked around, his hair standing up everywhere, his eyes all sleepy still. "What time is it?" he asked for some reason.

"Not time for bed," Alfie answered, and he smiled easily - wide - at the sight of Julien. Whatever weird feeling he'd had was missing now, but Julien still was a sight - hair all mussed and face all red from where it had been on his arm.

"You know you're in the library, right? So boring you fell asleep on it?"

Julien sighed heavily, then stretched and yawned, a huge one that had him still blinky by the end of it. He looked down at what he'd been doing and then swore, 'oh crap!' and picked his quill back up. "I'll never get this done now!" he said, upset, but stopped to be polite to Alfie. "Sorry... thank you for waking me up." And why was his friend here? "Everything okay?"

"Yeah, just bored. Saw you over here..." He frowned at Julien looking like he was going to go right back to work though. "Mate, it's Saturday. Won't you have all day tomorrow to do that? Is it even something that's due?"

Julien rubbed a hand through his hair and then sighed. "Yeah, but then I'll be a day behind." he explained. "And it's not really actually due for class... but you know, if I start slipping on my study timetable now I'll get really behind and then I'll fail and then, well, I don't know what'll happen if I fail."

Alfie frowned again at the worry. "You're not going to fail if you get behind one day in extra work. You already read all the books for class!"

"Yeah but I'll forget everything if I don't revise." He wished he could remember stuff but his memory retention was actually terrible. He only did so well in his classes because he pushed himself like that, he only took the classes he did because he was so afraid of lacking in something and all of this was underscored by the disappointment his parents had in him.

"So... revise it tomorrow?" Alfie turned so that his shoulder butted against his friend's. "Come on! It's Saturday. You should do something fun."

"I've got other stuff to revise tomorrow..." Julien said, but he was dislodged a bit when Alfie nudged him. "Fun like what?" he wanted to know. His distaste for outdoory sports things left his options limited when fun was involved with other people in his year.

"We could go out and fl - oh." Alfie slumped back in his chair and looked a little pained - it was the way he generally looked when he had to think hard about something. "Right, you don't like to fly. Hrm... well, when you're not studying, what do you like to do?"

Julien wasn't really sure why Alfie was so keen on spending time with him, but there was something about the other boy that made it difficult for Julien to cut him free the way he knew he should - he liked the other boy being there, even if they weren't doing anything more than just sitting opposite each other in a train carraige.

"I kinda tend to study when I get any free time..." he said a little awkwardly, although his mind was shoting 'Daydream Charms, Daydream Charms!' at him at loud volumes - he didn't want to reveal that for some reason. "Otherwise I read or..." he shrugged. "I don't really do much." he had to give Alfie something for trying though. "You like flying right." he said, checking what he knew. "I'll come and watch you." Oh... "If you wanted."

Alfie thought of the Quidditch Pitch and then thought of Evie's run in with Draco. He wouldn't mind a fight, really, but he didn't think Julien should be there if that happened. "That wouldn't be any fun for you," He said with a shake of his head. The pained, contemplative look didn't go away.

"There must be something people can do in the castle that's fun. Oh! Do you play Gobstones, or Snap?" He liked Snap better, because of the explosions. He wasn't too keep on getting gunk on him from the Gobstones after the recent experience with Peeves.

Julien really didn't like Snap because of the loud noises, but Alfie was trying so damn hard and it wasn't fair for Julien to keep denying him, especially when the Hufflepuff was being so unselfish. "I don't mind playing Snap." he agreed. It seemed like he'd found an actual proper 'play games with on a lonely Saturday' friend without having noticed it.

Alfie's face brightened immediately. "Awesome! We can go back to the Com - " Which was where he trailed off again, this time laughing at himself. "Right. Can't do that... Sorry, all my mates are usually in Hufflepuff. Um.." He had to think about it again, and the pained look came back briefly but then disappeared.

"I can go and get my deck and we can find a classroom or something. There's an old one on the way to the Hufflepuff dorms that no one ever uses anymore..."

Julien only realised how strange it was that they were interhouse friends at that comment, but he didn't voice a note on it. Who cared about house boundaries anyway when he had an honest to Merlin friend. "That sounds good to me." he agreed. "Did you wanna get the cards and meet me back here? I kinda need to finish this paper, it shouldn't take me too much longer." assuming he didn't fall asleep again.

Alfie rolled his eyes, but stood up after bumping Julien's shoulder in a friendly sort of way with his again. "Fine. I'll even walk sloooooow for you so you can finish."

Julien at first thought he'd said something wrong when Alfie rolled his eyes - he wasn't very used to someone teasing him like that and he was usually subject to that kind of thing when it was meant properly, but he wasn't stupid enough to believe that Alfie meant it.

He even managed a smile. "I promise I'll leave it alone when you come back."

"Or finish it by then," Alfie's voice still trailed like he was teasing. "But fine. You've got like... well, probably twenty minutes, because it's a hike to Hufflepuff from here. But go ahead, I'll be back."

Julien nodded his agreement and then put his head down to work, wanting to make sure he had it all done by the time Alfie got back but still planning to abandon it anyway even if he hadn't. Alfie deserved that much for his persistence.

Alfie did actually walk slower than he usually would, but it wasn't that far to Hufflepuff. He stopped and talked to a fifth year girl for a little while about Quidditch tryouts because she asked him a question, and then he had to dig through his trunk for his Exploding Snap cards.

He couldn't find them at first, and was scared they might have ended up in Ellie's trunk like his shoes, which would be horrible since he didn't have any idea where she was today to get them back - but then he found them at the bottom, wrapped up in a pair of underwear for some reason, and decided it was really really time to unpack.

But not now - he had a card game! So he started the trek back to the library.

Julien managed to finish his paper with time to spare, so by the time Alfie came back he was sitting on one of the desks with everything packed up, his legs swinging idly to and fro beneath him - he'd never looked quite so at ease before. "Shall we?" he asked, jumping down off the table when he spied Alfie.

Alfie was a little surprised by the change in him, but he smiled wide when he saw and nodded, anxious to get out of the library again as soon as possible, really. Books made his head hurt just thinking about them.

"Come on," he said, when they were out of Pince's gaze. "Race you!" And he started at a run through the hallway.

Julien may have been relaxed but he wasn't THAT relaxed and he looked slightly concerned about Alfie running off the way he did. "We'll get in trouble." he said, jogging only to keep up and try and talk Alfie out of the running thing.

That thought seemed to stop Alfie, though, and he slowed down to a jog and then to just walking beside Julien.

He didn't like getting into trouble. It always meant extra work in detentions.

"You're right," he said, shrugging.

Julien should have felt happy that he'd spared Alfie the trouble, but he felt bad instead that he'd put the reins on someone who'd been so free only minutes ago. "Sorry." he said because of it, for spoiling what fun Alfie had been having.
