Who: Essery & Rhydian Oakby
What: Drinking!
Where: The Gunmakers, 13 Eyre Street Hill, London
When: Backdated to Thursday night
Rating/Warnings: TBA

Rhydian was on his third pint; he came here for the food (usually around four-thirty in the afternoon, as soon as he could semi-respectably duck out of the office), but had always liked the atmosphere well enough to stick around. It was quieter than his usual sort of place, and so well-suited for inviting out people who had progressed beyond deafening noise levels, cheap beer, raucous crowds and sticky floors. ... Not that he thought of Essery in those terms, of course. But seeing as she had just been appointed a sort of schoolmarm - it seemed only right to give her a hard time for it, for a little while. He couldn't imagine having a job that never slept. He was really pretty bloody proud of her, and he was saving her a seat, so as far as he was concerned he was allowed a little ribbing.

He pulled his feet off of the adjacent bar stool when she arrived, letting it clatter back onto all fours, and raised his glass by way of greeting. "Started without you," he said, with a brazen lack of sheepishness.

"Where, better?" He draped his arm over the back of her stool, more heavily than was really necessary, and jerked it a bit closer. "Rubbish. This is where I come to meet respectable types, you know. Now that you've moved up in the world - thought I'd make the gesture." He grinned. "But you're doing your best not to look the part, I see. Unless they let you wear that to lessons? It might actually help. Once you finish that," he said, tapping at the glass that had just been set in front of her, "we can move to somewhere a little more appropriate. I have all night."

"Bring him another one too," Essery told the bartender, waving almost dismissively at her brother as she picked up her pint and took a drink. "Ugh, respectable.... I have to go and buy new robes and everything, learn how to put my hair up in a bun without it being all crooked. I'll never be able to do it." Except, even if being Head of Hufflepuff was daunting and made her feel ancient, it was also something she was really looking forward too. She always felt that way the last few weeks of summer, like she couldn't wait for students to come back to school. It was, of course, followed by about a full month of wishing it were still summer...

"The bun's part of the uniform, is it? You'll manage. They've got charms for that sort of thing. And stuff in bottles you can spend a fortune on, not that I'd know." It was hard to imagine her looking quite that neat and severe, but she had accomplished the transformation to professor years ago, and done a bang-up job of it, as strange as it had seemed to him at the time. "And if you can't comb it up right, you'll just have to start a trend. I've got everyone dressing casual on Thursdays, too, now. And no one you work with can possibly be as stiff as those bastards." He meant it affectionately, of course. He did like a few of them.

"I think the Headmaster would have something to say about casual Thursdays," Essery pointed out, and even saying that made her frown a little - something about the last conversation she'd had with Severus over the journals still prickling a bit. But she shoved it off and shrugged, taking another drink and asking, "So, what's new with you, then?"

"What, and you can't think of anything to say back?" His smile was a little smug as he accepted his next drink; he was sure that Hogwarts had to be much improved by the new wave of professors who were - well, maybe it was just that they were young, but lack of pretension was a nice side bonus. "Not much new. Just working up to quarterfinals, and beyond," he said, raising his glass. That kind of dedicated drinking took solid preparation. "It's England this year, as you're no doubt already aware, and I want to be able to get royally pissed and rub it into whoever's face needs it. So I've been taking of a bit earlier than usual. - For training." It was only two more weeks or so, and really, no one could begrudge him that.

"Well, I probably could, but I don't want to go looking for a new job." Essery laughed at the idea of her saying anything back to Snape, to his face at any rate, and then shrugged. She'd have said more, but she'd rather listen to her brother babble on about his drinking prowess. "I imagine you and Fergus have been at it competitively, yeah? You two ought to see if there's a professional league for that."

"We'd have to start our own league," Rhydian said, rather more smugly than was probably warranted. "No decent competition, otherwise. You're welcome to come for tryouts." It only gave him a little pause to think of getting his sister plastered, but ... well, she'd be doing it to herself, wouldn't she. He could only imagine how much she'd need to unwind, in the near future. He hardly had a real job at all, and he spent half his time at places like this. "Any time you need, you know, we're happy to pop up there and bring the party along."
