Who: Mike and Pansy Corner
When: early evening
Where: their loft
What: Mike realised he screwed up (again) after Pansy's entry earlier in the da.
Rating: G?
Open/Closed: Closed

Michael knew that he was in trouble. He knew that he was in a lot of trouble. He'd forgotten all about Pansy's birthday. He'd like to be able to honestly blame it on that thriced damned invitation that Pansy had told him about on that day, but he knew that would never go over. It wasn't right of him to make excuses. He was in the wrong. And he knew that he had to make it up to her and fast. The only problem was that he wasn't certain that his birthday gift to her would be enough.

Oh he certainly hadn't originally forgot about it. It made him almost give in to her demands for a house elf. Almost. But he'd been planning her birthday gift for a while. The problem was that he'd let the time slip by him and he didn't even realise it was here until it'd passed and she'd put up her entry about it. He'd beaten a hasty retreat then. He had to get her gift from where it was, obviously.

And while out he picked her up some more of her favourite flowers, ginger lilies. Once that was done he paid the last of what he owed for her gift, a diamond and ruby necklace. It was easy to get back into their flat without Pansy noticing him. He was quite certain she was giving him the cold shoulder.

So he put the flowers and the necklace on Pansy's pillow, arranging it all nicely before moving out and into the kitchen. Now he just had to wait and see how she reacted. Though perhaps he ought to think of more to get her, just in case.

Pansy hated the way she was feeling right now. What hurt wasn't the fact that her parents hadn't owled or that her letters to Thaddeus' had returned unopened yet again. She could even forgive her friends for letting the day slip by.

However, what she could not seem to get over was that Michael had forgotten. Pansy hadn't even had summoned up the energy for a nice argument with her husband - all she had done for the past forty-eight hours had been to silently slip around the bar and the flat.

Michael hadn't picked up on it - even when she had sat and stared daggers at his head across the dining table. Oblivious, utterly oblivious.

So she'd tutted and moved around the flat, picking items up here and there and replacing them before flicking through a magazine that held no interest.

Deciding to change her shoes to a slightly different shade of black, she made her way into the bedroom and saw something glitter on her pillow. Against the vibrancy of the ginger lilies, she saw the necklace and picked it up carefully to dangle from her fingers.

Sitting on the bed with an 'oomph' she stared at in shock. Against the shock and excitement, guilt began creeping in as she stared at the expensive and delicately crafted necklace. Pansy knew the state of their finances intimately - the money she'd 'acquired' from the Parkinson family vault was all tied up in the nightclub and with Michael out of employment, things were a bit tighter than she was used to.

And yet - he'd thought about it and her.The gift was perfect and she picked it up, the necklace grasped tightly around her hand and made her way to the kitchen to watch Michael move around the small space.

Saying nothing she crossed the room and placed a small kiss on his cheek.

When he thought about it Mike could see where there had been hints dropped by Pansy. He really didn't know how he'd missed them all. He hadn't thought he was so oblivious, but obviously he was. He wondered if there were other hints he'd missed. Well, the not more subtle ones. Sometimes Pansy's hints weren't hints at all and more liked dropped comments with veiled threats if they weren't followed through.

And now he watched as she huffed around the flat, picking up various things and moving them before settling down to flick through a magazine. He could feel her upset from here, but he didn't want to say anything. He'd rather leave her to find what he'd left for her on her own. He tried to make himself busy in the kitchen and as if he wasn't honestly watching everything that she was doing.

It took a lot to not run to the bedroom when she went so that he could see her reaction. He was very interested in what she thought of the necklace. He rather liked getting her rubies despite knowing she liked diamonds. This time though he'd managed to get both. He had absolutely no plans on telling her about all the odd little jobs he'd picked up in the muggle world to be able to afford it without dipping into their money.

What he couldn't ignore though was when Pansy came into the kitchen and kissed his cheek. A small grin made it's way to his face before he chanced a look at her. "So, found the gift then?"
