RP: You Got a Friend
Who: Hannah Abbott, Olivia Rose Abbott, and Ernie McMillian
When: Afternoon that Hannah has off - July 19th, 2003
Where: Diagon Alley
What: Meet and greet the mini-Hannah
Rating: Family Friendly.
Open/Closed: Open

Hannah was enjoying her rare day off. There was not always time to take Olivia Rose to the park. She had taken the little one to Diagon, showing her off to the boss and a co-worker, since they always heard her rave about her little nugget. She smiled as the little girl pointed at lots of things while they walked down the alley, explaining what the things were. She was so smart and so inquisitive. Hannah marveled at him every day of her young life. She was truly the best thing that had ever happened to Hannah.

Even her father was wrapped around Olivia Rose's little pudgey fingers. She was beginning to see glimpses of the man that her father used to be when they got to visit with him. Hannah picked up the little girl, dressed in a blue romper with tights and Mary Janes. Hannah thought she looked adorable. They stopped outside the pet shop and Hannah picked up Olivia Rose to show her the owls in the window.

"See love, soon you'll have one of those when you go to school, but not for a while, right?" she asked, nuzzling that baby cheek, so soft and sweet.

She looked up when she saw her name and smiled brightly when she saw Ernie McMillian, who had once been her very best friend in Hogwarts. She watched her daughter peek at him from her shoulder. She could be so outgoing, yet so shy, "Yes, it has been a long time. I heard congratulations were in order for you and Susan. I'm sorry I haven't had time to owl."

The shy little girl just peeked at him through thick bangs, her blue romper billowed around her bottom on her mother's arm. "Olivia Rose, this is mummy's friend Ernie." she said with a smile.

"It's quite alright," Ernie replied, "it still surprises me on a regular basis, so I hardly expect the owls." It was true - the idea that he would be getting married was not one that he had fully adjusted to, and he didn't ever expect to, and the congratulations from everyone, including people he'd barely met, mostly just made him feel awkward.

He smiled warmly at the little girl in Hannah's arms. "Hello there, Olivia Rose. Does your mum tell you stories about when we used to be in school?" He looked back at Hannah, and pronounced, "she's adorable."

"Yeah, she's pretty decent if I do say so myself." she chuckled as she turned the kid slightly so she could look at Ernie more, "I haven't quite gotten to that part yet, she's only two. I'm trying not to corrupt her just yet." she teased lightly, "So when is the date? Or are you still in the planning phase?"

She was happy that Ernie might find some of that normal bit of happiness that most worked their whole lives for. She'd been so busy with the baby that it was hard to keep up with everything.

"We weren't corrupting influences," Ernie protested lightly, "we were prefects, and we helped save the wizarding world." He knew of course that the rule-breaking, finger-pointing, further rule-breaking, and fighting wasn't exactly a tale for small ears. "And we were excellent students, worthy examples," he added with a smile.

Ernie shook his head slightly. "We're still planning. We need to figure out roughly who is invited, so we can find an appropriate place, so we can work out the dates. It's quite complicated. Susan's better at organising it than I am."

He paused for a moment, and then suggested, "Would you like to join me for lunch?" It was a touch loud in the Alley, and it was lunchtime, more or less.

"Yes, we were prefects that helped save the wizarding world by disregarding pretty much every rule in the book and then throwing said book at the heads of every person that opposed us." she chuckled as she adjusted the diaper bag on her shoulder.

"I would love to join you for lunch." she added, "As long as you don't mind the possibility of getting baby food on you." she warned him.

Ernie shrugged. "I didn't throw books - I spent eight hours a day at least reading them. And I followed the rules that mattered, like not showing up late for class, and being in the dorms by curfew. Most of the other ones were just extras." He smiled to show that no matter what he said in defence of his time as Head Boy, he knew exactly what she meant.

"Excellent! I was going to go to the Lucky Bakery, but if you have any preferences..." He trailed off to allow for suggestions.

"Oh I love that place. I go there quite regularly on my own breaks." she pointed out, "I work down the Alley at the Herbology shop." she explained, motioning generally in the other directions. She smiled slightly remembering the old days. The rules had been entirely optional in some of those times. She remembered their marathon study sessions. They might not have been Ravenclaws, but they'd worked hard for their grades.

"So you and Susan got back together then?" she asked as she walked towards the bakery, still holding Olivia Rose who didn't want to leave the animals and made a little whiney noise, "We'll come back later, poppet." she promised, which hushed the baby down.

"Excellent. I haven't been down to London in a while - since June, I suppose - but I'm rather fond of the food there. I will have to come by and visit you when I'm down here in the future."

Ernie nodded. "We've been going out more or less since the final battle. It just took a shock to the system for us to work it out."

Noting the little girl's displeasure at leaving the animal's behind, Ernie looked at her and smiled. "Maybe, if your mum says it's alright, you can come visit my house. We have lots of different animals that you can pet. Would you like that?" Ernie supposed that it might be a bit of a speech for a two year old, so he looked to Hannah for confirmation.

"Oh yes, wouldn't that be fun, poppet? You can go play with Ernie's animals." she said with a smile, "Well when I have another day off that isn't packed with chores." she pointed out, "Taking care of an infant on my own hasn't been easy, but it's been worth it."

Olivia Rose just looked at him for a long moment and tipped her head slightly, her pigtails flopping slightly. "Now? Go bye-bye?" she asked.

"No, poppet, later, we'll go later." she said, knowing that the little girl wouldn't even remember it tomorrow. "I'm very happy to hear that you're doing so well, Ernie."
