Who: Draco & Astoria
Where: Astoria's Flat
What: The couple has things to discuss about the Future
When: Wednesday evening
Rating: TBA?

Despite the fact that many pureblood women would probably feel it was beneath them, Astoria prided herself on having the means of cooking a decent meal for her fiancé. One couldn't always rely on house elves being around, or even having decent skills of their own. While her mother insisted on sending over one of the Greengrass elves once a week to do the majority of the cleaning, other then that, Astoria was on her own, which was just as she liked it. She hummed under her breath as she cooked and stirred and seasoned, knowing Draco would let himself in with the key she'd given him long ago, and her two cats would give him away the moment he walked in the door with their demands to be petted. Whether Draco WANTED to pet them or not. Which was probably why they did it, contrary creatures that they were.

Draco cleared his throat. "If I let you up in the morning to do so," But he was smirking a bit, too, and he would certainly let her up.

After a few bites, and nodding in agreement about the bread, he remembered what else he'd needed to speak to her about. "Oh. I've had an idea for us, well for something I'm doing, but I'd like you involved."

"Hmm, well I could write from bed, I suppose. Wouldn't that be scandalous? I think I'll refrain from mentioning you being there with me when I write, however," she pointed out with a laugh and a playful smile in his direction.

She started eating then, watching to make sure he liked the food. She knew it was unusual, knowing how to cook, but he seemed to be an appreciative audience anyways. "Hmm. What is that, then?"

Draco took a few more bites - he was appreciative of everything Astoria did, even when, or perhaps especially when, they were things she wasn't expected to be able to do. He was, even if he would never admit it to anyone but her, oddly proud she'd taught herself to cook.

"Well, you remember Theodore Nott?"

She made a bit of a face. "Yeah. Went completely off the deep end, didn't he? Now that he wasn't dangerously tilted that way before the big battle, but went completely over the edge after, yes?"

Draco cleared his throat and nodded. "That's an appropriate summary of it, yes." And he didn't know how much she wanted to know, but there was no doubt that he'd share anything he knew with her.

"He killed his father, during the battle. There's no proof, of course, but I know that his father was found dead, and he was found near the body in that state. He's been at St. Mungo's ever since."

She frowned. She remembered the senior Mr. Nott with some distaste. "Not that big a loss, his father," she muttered, biting her lip at thinking something so ill of the dead, but still. He'd creeped her out, even at that young of an age. She put down her fork, folding her hands in her lap, looking at him speculatively. "Why are you involving yourself in the situation now, Draco? I don't see you developing a sudden case of concern for him out of the blue without a reason."

Draco looked away from her then, the way she was looking so pointedly at him made him feel guilty for not telling her sooner. "I've visited him, actually, several times over the years. He's barking mad, so there wasn't anything really to speak of to the visits...."

Her expression softened with sympathy however, even though a slight worry mark marred her forehead. "I just wanted to make sure you hadn't been talked into it by someone, that's all. Is he dangerous? What is it you want to do with him, or for him, then?"

"He's a bit dangerous to himself, I think, but to others? No. He's rather pathetic..." Draco looked back across to her and then sighed and sat down his fork, shaking his head. "I can't help but feel a bit guilty for his state. I knew things were coming, had I warned him better. But there's no reason to think on that now. Gregory Goyle came to me and asked my help for him, so I've decided I should do something to get him out of the hospital."

"Ah...." she said quietly, looking a little troubled. "I don't like the idea of you feeling guilty for this, obviously. You did what you could, Draco. You had your own family - and mine- to look after. You were only one young man in the middle of a lot of chaos. What happened wasn't your fault, and warning him- well it could have turned out worse for all of us."

Still.. she lifted her hands, pressing her fingers together, steepling them. "Alright. So once you get him out of the hospital, then what? As sad as the place is, St. Mungo's does have excellent care."

"It's done Nott no favours," Draco said with a tight sort of shrug. She wasn't going to be able to assuage his guilt tonight, that much was clear.

"Goyle and Nott were, apparently, together in school. I thought I could establish a fund and then appoint Goyle as his caretaker. Snape will set them up at Hogwarts."

She sighed, giving him the rare look that said she knew he was being stubborn and she didn't like, but she'd let him get away with it. For now. She was getting very good at that look. She was also getting good at winning the inevitable arguments later.

She blinked a little bit as he revealed the exact nature of Greg and Theodore's relationship, mouth opening in shock before she snapped it shut with a click of her teeth, blinking slowly. "I... uh... see. Well... I suppose that would work. Headmaster Snape agreed to this?"

Draco's face mirrored at least the opinion he thought he saw in hers. "I know, I wouldn't think very much on it. The visuals you might imagine are truly terrifying."

But to the rest, he nodded. "I have a meeting with him tomorrow, but I suppose he has. Goyle seems to think it won't be a problem, so he must have mentioned it to him."

She rolled her eyes and laughed. "The only ... uh...no, never mind. My brain doesn't even want to drift in that direction. To each their own, I suppose."

She nodded thoughtfully and leaned back in her chair, mind going over what he'd told her and the possibilities. "You want to shine some publicity on it, I suppose?" She didn't much like the idea of exploiting someone who was mad, but then again, Draco's money was helping to fund his escape, so they should get something out of it.

"On the charity I'm - we're - establishing. Not on what exactly we're doing, because taking a mad person out of a hospital and leaving in a school full of children with a recently released convict as his caretaker is..." Draco laughed humourlessly, "Well, it doesn't particularly sound all that charitable. But the actual things we do with the funds can be hidden. The fund itself out to be more public."

She relaxed then, expression turning much more enthusiastic for the idea. "Oooh, well, that makes a bit more sense then. Hmmm. What were you thinking of naming it? We should have a few other more... publicly viable stories to associate with the fun. Bleeding hearts lap that sort of thing up."

"Ah, see..." Draco picked up his fork again and brandished it at her for a moment, then smiled and went back to eating. "I thought you might like to come up with a name for it, and perhaps commission some sort of logo for a stamp and stationery and all that?" Because it certainly wasn't the sort of thing Draco would be any good at.

Astoria laughed then, arching a brow. "Ah, the girly part then," she teased, but didn't seem to mind, tilting her head to the side as she already started to think over the possibilities. "Definitely something with the Malfoy name."

Draco's managed a chuckle at that, but yes that really had been what he'd meant. "If you think so. It might be better to go with a family first name, or something celtic. There are still quite a few orgainzations that don't want the Malfoy name attached too publically."

And then he remembered the last thing he and his father had talked of. "Oh, and if you dont' have any objection, my father suggested we have a formal party to announce the engagement correctly, and we could unveil the charity idea there."

"Hmmm, possibly. I'll have to comb through and see if I can find a suitably benign ancestor who isn't named something horrific," she laughed.

His comment about his father's idea made her smirk. "Announce it correctly, as in not in a interview in the paper the next day before we have a chance to inform our families perhaps? I guess I wasn't the only one who got an earful then?"

"Not precisely an earful, " Draco contradicted, but then he nodded. "Yes, announce it correctly. And use it as a chance to have the charity debut as well."

She grimaced faintly for a moment. She knew, logically, that marrying into Draco's family meant that more and more often, events in their personal life were going to be used for social status and prestige. It didn't mean she had to always like it. Still, it was a formal party, not a family gathering, so it wasn't as if it was going to be full of close friends, just socialites and ladder climbers. She nodded then. "Sounds like a good idea, then. Was your mother going to host it, then? Or is it up to us?"

"I'm sure it can be at the Manor," Draco shrugged, giving her a sympathetic smile and taking a bite of his garlic bread. "It would have to be planned quickly, if I'm to get Nott out of Mungo's and to Hogwarts before term starts."
