Despite the fact that many pureblood women would probably feel it was beneath them, Astoria prided herself on having the means of cooking a decent meal for her fiancé. One couldn't always rely on house elves being around, or even having decent skills of their own. While her mother insisted on sending over one of the Greengrass elves once a week to do the majority of the cleaning, other then that, Astoria was on her own, which was just as she liked it. She hummed under her breath as she cooked and stirred and seasoned, knowing Draco would let himself in with the key she'd given him long ago, and her two cats would give him away the moment he walked in the door with their demands to be petted. Whether Draco WANTED to pet them or not. Which was probably why they did it, contrary creatures that they were.

Draco let himself in with his key as expected, because what use was making her or one of those elves come to the door when he had a perfectly useful key and might get the chance to surprise her. It would have been simple enough, too, if not for Astoria's cats - which Draco had spent some not so few hours dreaming up ingenious ways to murder. The Royal Pain was first, rushing into his legs, which wouldn't have been as bad on his own - but the damned Easton came in after him, and when that monstrosity rushed against a person it could very nearly knock them over.

"Scat!" Draco hissed at them, and then quieter to himself he added, "This might be why my father began carrying that cane."

Prince, or the Royal Pain as Draco liked to call him hissed right back at him, but then stalked off, stiff-legged, his tail held high, the siamese clearly not feeling Draco was worth further effort. More then likely, he was off to stake out a high spot from which to pounce later.

Easton, however, thought everyone loved him, including Draco, and adored them right back, with every fluffy orange pound of himself, winding himself around Draco's ankles and trying desperately to climb up to get snuggled. It had been adorable when he was a kitten, but he was about ten pounds heavier with much longer and sharper claws. He mrowled his distress at Draco's lack of appreciative pettings loudly.

Astoria, of course, heard that and she laughed. "Easton, you let him alone," she called, coming around the corner out of the kitchen to the front foyer. "Oh, Easton, not all over his pants, you bad thing. He'll give you love later, once I've fed him and he remembers how sweet you are!" She said, bending over to reach down and gently unhook the claws from Draco's legs, and gave the large fluffball a push into the flat. She straightened up, laugher in her expression. "Hello, Draco."

"That is exceptionally unlikely," Draco pointed out, and once the cat was gone he looked down at his black trouser legs and rolled his eyes, taking out his wand and attempting to remove the hair from the black fabric.

"Does he have to be that colour? I could turn him black, and then at least he wouldn't leave bright orange mange all about my clothes..." The hair taken care of, he shook his head and then looked up at her and gave her a small smile to show that he was only partially more interested in his pants, and she could easily catch his attention if she kept smiling that way.

"Hello. You're cooking?"

	"Oh, you know you adore him, you just have to be reminded. You're the one who found him all scrawny and half-drowned outside my flat and brought him to me anyways." I'm the one who found it and was wrestling to get the damn thing off of the tail of my coat when you found me and took on the role of the hellcat's mum, Draco corrected, but only in his mind, because he knew that her version had gotten him a few points to his favor when it had happened.

So he let it go, and after a moment another hasty sort of grin spread out as he laughed. It was so pedestrian, spaghetti and garlic bread, and he shouldn't even admit to liking it, but it was one of his new favourite things. "I approve," He said after a moment, and then leaned in to catch her mouth, far less chaste than her kiss had been.

	She made a happy hum of sound against his lips, one arm slipping around his waist to lean into the kiss, until she finally pulled away to breath and nip his lower lip playfully. "Hmmm, come on then, I don't want to scorch the bread. It's almost ready." (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

She rolled her eyes and stuck her tongue out at him over her shoulder as she checked on the simmering sauce. "It was the first time I'd made it, I didn't know how much to use!" She leveled a ladle at him. "You do not get to keep bringing that up, or I'll sic Prince on you again."

She checked the oven and then turned back around to face him, a flick of her wand setting the ladle to stirring the sauce so it wouldn't burn, looking rather adorably domestic in the comfortable jeans, and oversized blue tshirt she was wearing, with a brightly colored cherry-patterned apron over the top to protect her clothing from splatters.

"Luckily, putting your cat in a full body bind is ridiculously simple," Draco said with a characteristic smirk, and then he brushed non existant hair from his pant leg before he sat down at the table.

"You look the proper little housewife tonight," He said with a chuckle. "Or, entirely improper, actually, I should point out." Not that, here with just her, he sounded as if he minded that much.

She gave him a glare. "Don't you dare. Prince is just playing with you. You know he adores you." Adored sitting on Draco's head, or pouncing him from above was more like it. Prince at least, understood Draco's disdain and returned it. Tenfold, like a proper cat.

She shook her head at him. "If I was entirely improper, all I'd have on is the apron, and if I'd done that, dinner would have burned. If you're very lucky, you'll get the improper housewife later," she said with a saucy grin. "Now, what was it you wanted to talk about?"

	Draco's eyebrows arched just a bit, and he leaned back and relaxed a bit in his chair, looking at her. "Well, I'm sure it was something, but now I think I'd like to talk a bit more about the improper housewife. I've some questions. 	Draco hummed, then cleared his throat. "So sorry, I never realized behaving was an important part of the arrangement. Tell me, though, will she always be wearing this apron? 	She sighed a little under her breath at that reminder that sooner, rather then later, she'd be installed as the lady of Malfoy Manor. Her lips twisted a little and she shrugged a shoulder. She arched a brow at him, and smiled a little more, letting her arms slide up to rest on his shoulders, fingers brushing lightly over the back of his neck. "Will we have to change quite a lot, when we move in, do you think? It's... very hard to not be intimidated at the idea of trying to step into your mother's shoes. She's so... poised and exquisite and oh, everything, really, and I'm not. I'm just;... pretty and clever." It was something that was starting to become a real worry for her. She never doubted that she was perfect for Draco. Whether or not she was perfect for Malfoy Manor and all it entailed - well, she hadn't ever quite thought that far ahead.

Draco sighed, the current change in the focus of the conversation not at all what he wanted to think about tonight. "Well, the good side of Malfoy Manor is that no one will visit to see how we're behaving unless we allow them to. We could give the elves all clothes the first day and behave however we damn well please."

Which he thought they both knew was an overstatement, but not as much of one as it might have been years ago.

	She laughed anyways, which was probably what he wanted, and she leaned up to kiss his jaw, nipping lightly. "We could, but we both are bollocks at housework and we'd be eaten by dust bunnies within a month. The cats could only conquer so many." She shook her head, smiling crookedly. "Sod them," Draco said with a smile, and he kissed her forehead, then let her go and nodded subtly to were the sauce was threatening to boil a bit. He sat back down at the table, but continued the thought, "If they see fit to hoist the Manor on us right at the start, not something I'd expected, though I should have I suppose, then I say they have very little say in how you choose to run it."

She made an "eep" of a sound and rushed over to save the sauce, and the garlic bread as well, bringing out the hot, crisp, sizzling bread, just perfectly browned at the edges. She'd been practicing, evidently.

She worked on combining the pasta and the sauce into one large serving bowl, concentrating as she spoke. "Its easy to say that, Draco, but your father and mother have worked very hard to restore your family name, your mother especially. I have a great deal of respect for your mother and your father-" She paused and then shrugged. "Well, your father terrifies me, honestly, but he's always been very kind to me, and you're their only son. I'm not unaware of the gift they're entrusting to my care. I don't want to do something that is going to upset that. Although... I really do wish we weren't kicking them out of their home."

"They'll be retiring to the home in Ranmore," Draco pointed out, reminding her. "You've been there, you remember. They aren't exactly trading down. And it's proper for us to take over the Manor, as my Father so recently pointed out to me."

Draco shrugged, then, and cleared his throat. "I do think, though, that my Mother would like it if you wrote her specifically to help with the wedding." He'd prefer Astoria's mum stay away from plays, as well, as he didn't really respect the woman's tastes, but he knew better than to say it.

"Hmm, I know, I adore Ranmore. It's a lovely place. And well, I suppose I should get used to doing what's proper." She sighed a little, and bit her bottom lip. "I really am going to have to quit my job, aren't I?" She sounded sad about it. Not upset, just.. resigned.

She gave him a sidelong look and rolled her eyes. "If I didn't know better, I'd say you 'd been reading over my shoulder while I wrote in my journal. I was just saying the same thing to Daphne, trying to figure out what task we can give to Mum to keep her out of the way, while we go beg your Mother to lend her excellent taste to the thing instead."

She gave him a careful look. "You really think she wouldn't mind? I don't want her to think I'm trying to intrude or something."

"Mind?" Draco snorted, shaking his head. "No, I'm sure my Father's spent enough time impressing on her just what he thinks must be done. She'd appreciate something happier to focus on, I'm sure. Perhaps you can write her and point out that, though you love your mother, you want something a bit more sophisticated..." Something Astoria's mother was, in Draco's opinion, wholly incapable of.

"My mother can certainly come up with something to keep yours occupied, I'm sure. And if not, she'll simply take over the whole production and tell your mother where she belongs in the hierarchy of preparation..." Draco shrugged, then sat up a bit more and nodded. "Quite." And after a moment he added, "And you will tell me when I've been respectable long enough, yes?"
