Who: Penelope Clearwater, Donaghan Tremlett
What: Chance encounters in Diagon Alley.
Where: Diagon Alley
When: May 23rd, late afternoon.
Warnings: None.

Penny weaved in and out of the crowds of Diagon. It was a gloriously warm day and Penny pushed the sleeves of her blouse up further up her arms as she dawdled along the bustling street. Her head was filled with Arithmantic equations and the tempting idea of running away for a day to sit in the park with Advanced Quadratic Equations and no owls.

Add in a tall glass of something ice cold and with a brightly coloured umbrella and it had the makings of a perfect day.

Her attention was caught by a new selection of silver nibs and peacock feather quills in the window of 'Flourish and Blotts' and she pressed closer to the window to get a better look.

That, Penny decided, would look very impressive on her desk. The price tag had her hiking her eyebrows into her hairline and focusing on a much more pragmatic option. There was a nagging notion that she had to pick up milk for the flat - half the time she thought it would be a more practical idea to invest in a cow; she couldn't do without her nightly cup of cocoa and Oliver - well, she had no idea what he did with milk.

Possibly bathing in it was involved.

Moving through the crowds once more, she spotted a display of Weird Sisters paraphernalia. It was incredibly bizarre seeing Orsino's face on the cover of Witch Weekly, though she did have to admit he did the sulky, brooding look very well.

Fifteen pictures of her boyfriend stared back at her and Penny eyed the display with bemusement and bafflement before she spotted that there was more than Orsino on the cover. Donaghan Tremlett flicked his hair and waggled his eyebrows at the passing witches - it was enough to have Penny smirking before he turned to her and blew her a kiss.

Oh for goodness' sake.

Had anyone been passing at that precise moment, they'd have seen the rather unusual image of a curly haired witch laughing at a display of 'Witch Weekly' magazines.

Penny was having far too much fun with the entire situation and she smirked at his reaction. "I'm much older than I look and I have an appreciation for good looking men who play their own instruments." With a pointed look at Donaghan's own hair she added "And who have a working knowledge of a comb."

Folding her arms across her chest, Penny looked him over in the same manner. "Do you often hang around displays of yourself, or am I especially lucky this afternoon?"

Now it was Don's turn to scoff and he did so quite loudly. He also added in a good eye roll for extra measure. "I might not be the best at gauging ages, but I know you aren't all that much older than I think you are." Now he looked offended though at her other comment. "Hey! I'll have you know that I play my own instrument! We all do." His hand came up quickly to his ponytail and he might have pouted just a bit, secretly. Or not. "I used a comb today, thank you very much."

"Oh yes. I find it is quite healthy to get in a good dose of narcissism at least once a week and this is the easiest way," he replied, closing the magazine that was still in his hands and gazing down mock enthralled at the picture.

"I regularly visit a little witch in Diagon who's good with charms and a model in discretion." Pushing her hair back, she shifted her bag to her other arm. "I look good for forty-five, right?"

His claim that he used a comb had her arching an eyebrow "Really? You have such long, luscious locks. Tell me, how much conditioner do you use?"

"I could write you a poem," Penny deadpanned "I've a rather exquisite way with syntax and a weakness for rhyming couplets."

"I'll write you a poem if you can get me Lorcans number - he's the sexiest musician I've ever seen."

"Pfft. Please. You can't be a day over forty." He was positive she was quite a bit younger than that, but if she was going to keep playing at being older than he could go in on it. He somehow doubted she'd take all that well to being called old.

He flipped his ponytail out from under his jacket and tsked. "Don't be jealous. Your hair is nearly there. If you tell me I'll tell you." He, of course, added a wink into that and grinned when he noticed that his picture had winked at her at the same time.

"I'm not a poem kinda person. And please, please for all that is holy, don't make me vomit. Just trying to imagine him as being sexy makes me a little more then nauseous." He faked nearly gagging.

"Thankyou," Penny said with a smile as she thought about cheerfully strangling him with his ponytail at being called old. "Clearly she's worth the galleons from my fifth husband."

"No sunglasses and now the ponytails on the loose?" Tilting her head she peered round him "Isn't that a little dangerous? I've heard Weirdies can be well, a little weird."

Following his gaze, she reached over and cast a charm to fog up the pictures and stop his magazine self from flirting. "Good likeness."

"Really? Most witches have a weakness for leather trousers and good bass lines. Add in the dark clothes and vampire mythology then its a marketing dream. Smart man, Mr d'Eath - you have to admire someone who exploits their selling points. "

"The Weird Sisters are good too - I never got to see them at Hogwarts but my little sister said they were brilliant and that she didn't stop dancing all night."

"Oh clearly. So does this mean you are doing it all because you are trolling for your sixth or just making yourself feel pretty?" He did wonder how long she'd keep it up.

"Nah. People lost interest in us when nothing exciting happened within the first few minutes." He was normally quite adept at avoiding any Weirdies. "Though if you'd like to meet some I could always take my ponytail down and say a cheerful greeting at large to the alley?" His hand reached back toward the band holding his hair back and he toyed with it, eyeing her.

"Too much for you?" He said with a grin, gesturing toward the magazines.

"Now I'm thinking you are just trying to rib me." The pout was definitely back. "d'Eath doesn't have anything on us. We certainly look better in leather trousers then he ever could hope to." He was doing his best to ignore her mentions of the bass again. He really didn't like what she was saying. "Besides we've certainly had a lot more hits then he has."

"No? You should come see us sometime in concert then. When we have another one, that is." He honestly kind of thought that she'd possibly seen them when they came and played at Hogwarts, but there was a chance she was just a little too old for that.

"Six and seven," Penny waited a heartbeat before giving a nonchalant shrug "A girl's got to have options."

Penny rather thought she could this all day - so long as ice cream and a seat was provided. Of course, she wasn't entirely sure Orsino would approve of her teasing his bandmate in this way.

But he wasn't here.

"You can if you like," Penny said "But fair warning, I'm very good at apparating." The idea of being surrounded by dozens of screaming fans was right up there with being tortured slowly with a red hot fish slice.

"I thought you didn't do leather trousers." Penny spotted his lower lip jutting out slightly and it was all she could do not to pat him on the back or ruffle his hair. It was a professional pout with barely a wobble or wibble and hinted at hours practising in the mirror.

"Oh I don't know about that. I don't know any of the songs," She had no intention of going to a Weird Sister concert - not after Donaghan threatening to out her to the crowds.

"You're quite hopeful there." It amused him that she was honestly able to say this with a straight face. If he was her then he'd probably have burst out into giggles or something by now. It was hard to remain serious as it was.

He sighed dramatically and let his hand fall away from the band. "There's no fun in that. Then I'd have to apparate away as well and the whole point of coming out here was to have a good time." And being mobbed did not, ever, constitute a good time.

He frowned thoughtfully and cast his mind back. "When did I say that? I'd certainly coerce certain other bandmates into them first, but I can if I have to." He knew Elizabeth was quite fond of them. He briefly wondered if Thrusty's girl, Penny, would honestly like to see him in the pants and billowy shirt like she'd mentioned before.

"Perfect time for you to learn some then! I could probably even help you score some backstage passes." Not that he'd force her to a concert, but he was all for converting people into a Weird Sister fan. Hopefully not a Weirdie though.

"Really? I came out here to get some milk, not a good time. Though I'm happy to have found that as well."

Widening her eyes slightly, Penny realised that it would be a smart idea for he to stop the topic of conversation before Donaghan twigged as to her real identity.

"Thankyou very much for the offer," and she was grateful for the offer but Penny found it easier to deal with thinking of Orsino as well, a regular person who happened to be doing a job he loved. Being surrounded by thousands of screaming witches who would be more than happy to throw their knickers at the entire band. Including her boyfriend.

"Are you offering a crash course on Weird Sisters lore and background?"

He was very careful to stop himself from saying something somewhat mean about the milk and her supposed age.

"Something wrong?" Don asked, noticing the slightly wider eyes. He didn't think he'd said much that could have caused that sort of reaction. But it was rather easy for him to get sidetracked and her next words did that.

"That definitely sounds like it is a thank you but no thank you," Don pointed out, tilting his head at the woman. He wouldn't really try to push her to go to a concert. He knew that despite how popular they were there were going to be those that didn't like them and he could live with that. Certainly he'd pretend to kick up a fuss, but he understood.

"A crash course on lore and background? I didn't realize we had any sort of lore going. Background, sure. Though I don't think there is much to our background that isn't quite public already."

"No, nothing," Penny said as she took in the crowds. More people meant more chances of him being recognised and she did not want to be a part of that.

"Its a - I think a concert wouldn't be the best place for me right now. I'm swamped with work and other commitments to the extent that a treat is taking time for a second cup of tea."

Realising tat she could have been construed as rude, she shot him a smile. "If I change my mind, or manage to have a break. I promise I'll owl. It was a very sweet offer."

Penny didn't let on that she'd gained most of her knowledge about the band from snatches of conversations with Meghan and dropped comments by Orsino.

"Lets just say that my sources aren't Witch Weekly sanctioned."
