Who: Kevin & Drew
What: Cuddletime
Where: Hogwarts kitchens
When: That night
Rating/Warning: TBA

Drew wasn't a stranger to breaking the rules, usually in the pursuit of mischief even if his intentions were good. He rarely did something that had become this dangerous for himself though, and the minute he'd reached the meeting point near the deformed owl he'd regretted pulling poor Kevin into all this trouble with him.

It was too late to get a message to the Ravenclaw now though, so Drew would just have to apologise and make sure the other boy got back to his dorm okay when he showed up; if he showed up. Drew half-expected Kevin to just not turn up, especially with things as they were now, and he wouldn't have begrudged him at all.

"Stupid Drew, real stupid... you've done some moron things before but this one takes the biscuit." he muttered to himself, slipping in behind the statue and holding still (well, in a Drew-fashion, which was not at all really), waiting for Kevin and hoping no one else came by.

Kevin had been multitasking - keeping an eye on his journal to see if Drew had responded while he folded laundry and put it away. Either the house elves had been instructed not to fold the Muggleborns' laundry, or Kevin had committed some mortal sin against their kind in the last week or so. Although he tried to keep an eye on both the journal and his four grey button-down shirts, it would have been clear to an outside observer which had his attention: the last several pairs of socks Kevin had put away each didn't match.

When the rendezvous venue was set, Kevin grabbed a hoodie and left Ravenclaw Tower as nonchalantly as possible. Heaven knows what the Death Eaters would think of Kevin meeting up with someone in an area of the castle that was off-limits in the best of times.

Reaching the odd statue that he had never looked twice at until now, Kevin spied the diminutive Hufflepuff fidgeting underneath it.

"Hey. You cool?" he asked.

Drew got up to greet Kevin and ended up catching himself a sharp knock on the head from the statues overhanging... something. He yelped and put a hand to his head, but pretty much ignored the minor injury otherwise. "Hi, uhm, no." he said in succession, coming up close to Kevin like he was afraid they were being eavesdropped on. "Thank you, thank you SO much for coming to be with me but I thought about it and this is, like, the most selfish thing I could have asked you to do and like I don't care if I get caught or anything if I'm doing something for myself but if you get caught then it's cause you were only trying to do something nice to me and that sucks, I'm not worth that kind of trouble so I should just walk you back to your dorm right now and then leave or somethig." he babbled.

Kevin blinked. And then blinked again. He paused, replayed as much of Drew's run-on sentence as he could remember, and creased his eyebrows.

"Wh- what? No...Drew, it's fine. Really," Kevin answered, still a little overwhelmed. He ground his teeth as he decided, yes, he was going to stick around. Drew had a point, after all, but Kevin could never abide seeing someone feeling crappy when he thought he could at least help by listening.

"What's up?"

Drew pushed his hand through his hair and sighed, then gave Kevin a broad if somewhat strained grin. "Kevin, you're just awesome." he stated plainly. Everything about him trembled for a hug, shouted for one except his voice. He wanted but now he wasn't sure if it was wise to get. He looked around before moving off a little. "There might be leftovers in the kitches." he said, avoiding the question for now. "C'mon, I'll show you how to sneak in."

Awesome? Kevin blushed and became fascinated by his shoelaces. He wasn't awesome, he was just Kevin. Just Muggleborn, good at writing, too smart for his own good Kevin.

But he was also a teenage boy, and when Drew mentioned food, Kevin's stomach rumbled.

"Yes, let's," he added, flashing a crooked smile.

Drew, for once, noticed the blush come to Kevin's face and he had to stop and wonder what he'd done wrong for a second before Kevin seemed to shrug himself out of it and give him that adorable smile.

Drew replied with one of his own and then took off down corridors and up stairs, somehow ending up below where they'd started and leaning pseudo-casusally against part of the wall that allowed him through into... the kitchens. "Come on Kev!" he called in glee. There was LOADS of food lying around.

For a little guy, Drew could run pretty damn fast. Kevin's less-than-active lifestyle meant he struggled to keep up with the darting and dodging Hufflepuff. Staircases in particular presented a challenge, as the five-foot-whatever Drew raced up without any problem, but the almost-six-feet-okay-only-five-ten Kevin huffed and puffed at the top. Were it not for Kevin spying a flash of yellow vanishing around the corner, he might have lost Drew altogether in his pursuit.

Staggering to the end of the impromptu race, Kevin wheezed and straightened up momentarily before bending again from a cramp. He massaged the stitch in his side that the exertion had given rise to.

"Bloody hell, d'you run everywhere you go?" Kevin muttered. His red-with-exercise face blanched when he caught how the question could be taken and he quickly followed it up. "I'm dreadfully out of shape, I can't keep up with you."

Drew was a little flush-faced but none the worse for that. He turned to see Kevin red-faced and felt bad for forgetting that ot everyone was as nippy as he was. Nippy; sounded much better than shortarse.

"Sorry, too much sugar." he explained with a grin, reaching out to take Kevin's hand and tug him in. "Do you wanna have a seat? Hey, I can get you lemonade or something?" He was throwing the house elves into a tizzy, but he didn't seem to care.

"How about some tea, something without so much sugar?" Kevin retorted with a wry grin and a wince. The scurrying house-elves caught him by surprise and Kevin nearly felt himself leaping to avoid stepping on an errant greenish foot.

Almost seven years in the school and he still hadn't gotten used to the little buggers. And by buggers he meant house-elves, not Hufflepuffs, although some of the first-years that got in the way during breakfast...

Looking around uncertainly and slowly regaining his breath and composure, Kevin nodded at the proffered armchair. It seemed out of place, as if it had been conjured solely for this occasion, but at Hogwarts, that possibility was more than likely. Only after he had finished taking his mental inventory of the kitchens did Kevin notice Drew still had his hand. It wasn't a problem, far from it, but Kevin still thought, "Oh, uh, okay..."

Kevin sank into the chair and had to bite his lip to keep from laughing at the thought that crossed his mind. And then he couldn't help but give voice to it:

"So, you come here often?" he chortled.

Drew made a face, having a not-so-good relationship with 'that tea stuff' -it tasted like hot water with leaves in it to him and he didn't quite get what all the fuss was about. He watched Kevin sit down and only then did he free Kevin's hand, quite forgetting that he'd been holding it; it had been nice while it had lasted though.

He grined at what he assumed to be a joke by Kevin, but he didn't actually get it. "I don't get it." he said immediately. "Oh fine, you can get us a drink alright?" He said to a house elf who had been flapping around him in fear that Drew would dare to do anything for himself. He took a seat on the floor by Kevin's feet, elbow resting on the chair. "Am I the only one who thinks those guys are crazy?"

Kevin smirked in that way you do when you discover what you thought everyone knew was actually an inside joke all along. He bit his lip when Drew sat at his feet, though. Something was just off-putting to Kevin about sitting in a squashy armchair while Drew sat on the floor.

Two people, one chair. No wonder I'm bollocks at maths, he thought.

Trying to dismiss the discomfort of their seating arrangement, Kevin glanced at the scurrying house-elves.

"Crazy, I dunno. I think they're kinda sad, really."

Drew was both oblivious to Kevin's discomfort and happy enough to sit by Kevin's feet, leaning back against the other boy's knees like he had every right to do so, like Kevin's body as just an extension of his personal space. "No, I want juice." he tried explaining to a frazzled House Elf who disappeared away a second later. "Sad? How come?" he queried with interest, tilting his head back to almost look up at Kevin upside down.

Drew was something, alright. Peter Pan couldn't have done a better job at not-growing-up than Drew seemed to do.

When the boy on the floor used Kevin's legs as a backrest, Kevin cocked his head in amusement and novelty, looking a little like a confused Labrador. But shelving the thought that he'd never had someone sitting against him like this, Kevin felt a warm, closed-lip smile creep across his face. It was kinda cute, after all.

On hearing Drew's question, though, Kevin furrowed his brow mildly.

"Well it's like they're indentured, isn't it? It's slavery, really. Only they like it, which is just...sad," he answered. Kevin remembered Granger's little extracurricular from years ago, and though he thought she had a good point, he was not about to be the second Muggleborn saying this part of your world sucks.

Drew would only have thought to not lean against Kevin's legs if the boy himself had shuffled him away. He took a juice from a harried looking House Elf and sniffed it, wrinkled his nose and then put the cup down without drinking it, which just made him feel guilty when Kevin made his next comment.

"I don't know... I hadn't really thought about it." he said guiltily, taking a sip of his drink for that very reason. "But like... if they're happy then... well, do you think they are happy?"

"Maybe they are..." Kevin sighed, resigning himself to yet another aspect of the wizarding world he just didn't get.

A house-elf startled Kevin, arriving close on his arm with a cup of tea. Kevin took the proffered mug, stirred in some sugar, and promptly burned his tongue on the scalding drink. Kevin winced, set the cup down on the arm of the chair to cool, and leaned forward to look over the top of Drew's head.

"So...are you alright?" he asked uncertainly.

Drew watched the House Elves while he wondered about that part. Despite growing up Wizard (so to speak) he'd never had House Elves of his own, although he'd alays known what they were; his mother had felt similarly about them as Kevin seemed to. He looked over as Kevin twitched in the seat when he burnt his tongue, putting his cup down similarly and then looking back up at Kevin with a smile that dropped for a milisecond before returning only a little sadder than before.

"Am I the only one who thinks all of this is just..." he shook his head and started again. "I can't be the only one who just feels real... alone? Right?" he said timidly.

Unbidden, Kevin's thoughts turned to Jackie, whom he couldn't visit, couldn't talk to, and now couldn't even owl. Kevin felt alone cause Jackie almost certainly was alone.

He had confided in Su, had quickly become close with her since the war had begun in earnest, but it wasn't the same.

"No, you're not the only one," Kevin said quietly. He almost, almost reached to rest a hand on Drew's head. But no, he couldn't do that.

That small, sad sounding confession had Drew biting his lip to stave off the tears that threatened to come because of how lost Kevin sounded; that and the fact that things were getting on top of Drew now and he wasn't sure for how long he could handle it.

"I'm sorry." he said softly, feeling terrible for it, for being so selfish.

"Heh," Kevin snorted. Here he was, supposed to be comforting Drew for whatever it was that was eating away at him, and he was retreating into himself. Thank heaven he caught himself doing that, there would be none of that right now. Especially right now.

Kevin picked up his cup and blew on it, ignoring the tremble in his lower lip. He took another hot sip and breathed deeply, composing himself.

Replacing the mug on the arm of the chair and forcing a grin on his face, he looked down at Drew.

"We'll be fine, right? Stiff upper lip and all that."

Drew was starting to hate himself for bringing this all up to someone who as clearly going through a bad patch themselves, especially as he thought that he was just being a big baby about everything.

He watched Kevin drink and then nodded, giving him that same weak, fake smile. "Yep, we'll be cool I know it." he said, beaming and trying to hide the fact that his statement had been an utter lie.

"That's the spirit," Kevin chuckled, finally giving in to the temptation and ruffling Drew's hair. He smiled at Drew more earnestly, unable to help thinking this was a cute little scene.

A house-elf appeared on Kevin's arm abruptly, carrying a small dish of sugar cubes and tongs. Kevin blushed a little bit and gestured for two cubes. Stirring the sugar into his tea, he leaned over Drew again.

"So..."

Faked or not, it was good enough to fool Kevin and anything to ease the pressure on his friends was good by Drew, especially when he was the one causing it.

He was about to say something when Kevin moved fingers in his hair and Drew closed his eyes in pleasure, just barely holding back a little sound that would have come across as entirely too sexual for the situation.

He jumped a little when the house elf appeared, reaching up for a sugar cube. "Sew buttons!" he said cheekily, popping the sugar cube into his mouth and sucking on it.

Sew buttons? Kevin was utterly perplexed by whatever that expression had meant. He looked over at the house-elf, which returned his confused gaze, squeaked, and vanished with a "pop".

He shook his head to try and clear the confusion, poking a little fun at Drew:

"More sugar? Planning on racing somewhere?" he smirked.

Drew giggled at the sound of the house elf running away and carried on sucking at his sugar cube, sucking his fingertips at the same time. He looked up again and gave Kevin that grin, a little bit sheepish. "No, I just get real tired if I don't eat much sugar, and I gotta sweet tooth." he admitted.

Kevin laughed.

"Yeah, I definitely believe the sweet tooth," he said, ruffling Drew's hair again. He didn't know why, but Kevin enjoyed hanging out with Drew, tossing his hair around. It felt...comfortable, somehow. More comfortable than Kevin had been in quite some time.

He leaned back in the chair and snorted.

"Heh. Cute." And then Kevin realized what he had said and froze. Way, way too soon, Kevin, good job.

Drew nearly purred under the petting and laughed along with Kevin, making fun of himself. He looked around when Kevin said tha tsomething as cute. "You think so?" he asked, confused. "I dunno, they kinda look like naked cats with bat ears to me." Obviously he'd thought Kevin was talking about the house elves.

Convinced Drew was messing with him, Kevin wasn't sure quite what to say, so, naturally, he didn't say anything. He just sat there, dumbstruck, one hand still mired in Drew's hair.

"Uh..." he managed to force out after a second or two of uncertain silence.

Still unsure of what to say, Kevin reverted to hiding his insecurity by taking another sip or two of tea and hoping Drew would say something.

Drew waited for the end of that sentence but it didn't happen; he listened to Kevin drink, felt that hand in his hair and the warmth of the kitchens and wondered if this was kind of what he'd been needing.

Almost.

"That feels nice." he murmured in almost a purr, moving his head a little to try and get the petting motion back.

"Hmm? Oh! Yeah..." Kevin was jolted back into action, renewing his skritches with a little more vigor than he had before he had stopped.

He smirked, unable to contain himself as he tweaked Drew's ear just to get a rise out of the Hufflepuff. Kevin chuckled.

"You sure you're comfortable down there? I can move over a bit if you'd like," Kevin offered.

Drew tipped his head back onto Kevin's knee, eyes closed like a cat when it was being scritched under the chin. "Ohhhh yeaaaaah..." he said, more moaned than anything. He was limp against Kevin and the only movement he made was to nuzzle against Kevin's hand now and again.

"Going to start kicking your leg, huh, puppy?" Kevin cracked. It was cute, the way Drew had basically melted under something Kevin had been doing kinda absent-mindedly anyway.

Steeling his nerves with a long drag of his tea (which was still too hot, damn house-elves), Kevin tugged on Drew's ear.

"Come on then, up you get," he beckoned, scooting over as much as the chair would allow. It'd be a tight squeeze, but Kevin was skinny, and Drew sure as hell didn't take up much space.

Drew laughed lazily and languidly at the comment and then squeaked at the next ear tug.

He blinked for a second, wondering why Kevin was moving, but then realised he'd only answered half of Kevin's question in a way that Kevin must have believed answered both... oh well.

He clambered up onto the chair and snuggled in beside Kevin like a particularly bony kitten, trying to snuggled up against the Ravenclaw so that he could get optimum petting. "This okay? You comfy? Cause I can totally sit back on the floor if you want." he said anxiously. Wow, Kevin was warm.

To tell the truth, Kevin wasn't all that comfortable, at least not with his arm pinned to his side. There was a solution - Kevin could move his arm. But would that be too forward? Would Drew object? Hell, did Kevin have the gumption to...

To hell with it.

Kevin looped an arm around Drew's shoulders, affording Kevin the extra few inches of space he needed. It also accomplished the ulterior motives of maintaining contact with the Hufflepuff, whom he was beginning to find rather cute indeed, and it kept him from sprinting off again so soon after tea.

"Better."

Drew immediately resettled himself down under Kevin's arm like he'd been born there, as entirely at ease as if Kevin was his brother or boyfriend or someone just as close. He turned his head to grin back at Kevin; "Yay, good." he said decisively before laying his head down against Kevin's chest as though he had a right to.

Taking a couple of deep breaths, Kevin focused on controlling his heartbeat as best he could - he didn't want Drew to hear how quickly his heart began racing when he'd laid his head down. Although Kevin had readily admitted he probably wasn't the best cuddle material (he was altogether too lanky and unsure of himself), if this was what passed for cuddling, he could get used to it.

"Yeah," Kevin managed to force out, hoping he didn't sound as nervous as he felt. Although heaven only knew why he felt so nervous around Drew.

Drew may have heard Kevin's heart beating, but he wouldn't have noticed anything awry, not being the most observant of souls. Besides, he was being cuddled, kind of, and it felt too good to interrupt.

He heard the nervousness though, although he wasn't sure what it was, and he tried to heal it. "Are you okay?"

"Yeah, I just...I like...this," Kevin failed to explain, gesturing with his chin at the kitchens, the tea, Drew, everything. He liked that even though it was someone he didn't really know too well (though he was willing to learn), in a situation that likely wouldn't arise again, he felt needed or appreciated somehow.

In the Claw dorms, that wasn't the case. Kevin didn't play Quidditch, he wasn't any good at Gobstones or chess...the only time he'd felt important was when one classmate or another would ask him to look over their essays. Writing Kevin could handle, but writing wasn't an important skill among Claws. As long as you knew what you knew, the manner of delivery of that knowledge was almost irrelevant. Kevin, of course, had taken a rather contrarian position to that: you can look smarter even than you are if you can effectively communicate.

So for someone to seek him out and ask him to be, well, him - that meant something to Kevin. He was nervous cause he didn't want to screw it up. And, obviously, because Drew's closeness was getting to him, in one fashion or another.

Drew was oblivious to any effect he might have been having on Kevin, not being used to subtle advances or reactions.

He grinned though, happy that Kevin was content. "Yeah, I like it here too." he said, turning his face from Kevin to look around the busy kitchen. "It's all warm and you're cuddly and comfy and it smells yummy here."
