Raid on Russet Mine
Who: Sol Commanders. Open.
What: Team Sol Raid.
Where: Russet City Mine.
When: Early morning. 7am till all day.
Note: Fossils are for Sol only. A grunt will take one.

The air smelled of petrol and dirt. There was constant noise; bulldozers, drills, explosives and trucks. Lifts carried miners into and out of the mine, and brought rock and ore out. Huge trucks, shovels and cranes were moving large quantities of minerals and dirt.

Except Russet City Mine was barricaded; the gate was closed and two large delivery trucks were parked in front of the entrance, preventing access. Two young adults, a boy and girl dressed in white sleeveless tops with trousers and skirt, stood guard. The miners who had been digging tunnels and shafts into the earth to reach buried ore had been driven out by Team Sol.

Their grunts were sifting through debris on a large conveyer belt located near the mine. It brought minerals to the surface through tunnels and shafts. A red stone, aflame on the inside, caught their attention and it was carefully placed inside a padded metal box. Heart Scales were tossed in a burlap sack and gold nuggets went in another.

The raid had been received with anger; miners had protested. But their Onix and Machop had been chased away by a large number of Shroomish and Combee. They kept digging.

The male at the gate didn't know what the Commanders wanted with fossils. They were just old bits of rock, he thought. They hadn't even found one! A person was walking by, watching them. He gave them a glare and yelled:

"Get lost! This is our territory!"

Edgar had been overseeing the actual mining and was pleasantly surprised. They had finally found a use for these useless lumps of stupidity. Maybe they should have them digging and mining more often. They'd definitely have less failure to report to the boss.

Edgar stretched and glanced up at Wings, who had found a rock jutting out of the wall and nodded. If the imbeciles were planning on stealing from the raid, then Edgar would find them eventually. Plus, to be honest, the dark mine was starting to wear on his nerves, along with constant stream of drilling noise and sudden explosions startled Wings.

Maybe the other two Commanders were wandering around down here and he could ask about their progress. At this point, his group had yet to produce a fossil, so when he got back there may or may not be threatening to be taken care of. Either way, a spot of fresh air could only do good. He may even catch some slacking off and have an excuse to force someone to go scout the deepest parts of the mines for valuable Pokémon, despite fossils being their main goal.

With that, Edgar took off towards the surface, Wings closely behind and above him.

If Lulu had left her bed any later, she wouldn't have received the call to check out the mine. Any news from Sol made her routine speed to three times as fast, and twenty minutes later she was in front of the mine and looking for a fight. It looked like she wasn't the first on the scene, but she would certainly be an asset.

Pity the gate was locked. No matter. Lulu tapped Murkrow's Pokeball, ordering him to fly ahead and find the leaders, and lead her back to them when she found a way into the gate.

"Go, Houndoom. Find a way in. And try to avoid destroying the gate completely."

"Those gates are none of your business, nosy."

An young woman had been drawn to the gate, alerted by the couple who'd ran away to warn their commanders. Better to guard and at least keep an eye open, she thought. She was tightly clutching a Pokeball in her right hand and seemed to be contemplating whether to throw it.

Her Pokemon snarled from behind the gate. Lulu sighed, but gave him the nod to do as he pleased. Without further delay, Houndoom opened his mouth, and a blast of flame flowed forth into the gate. Using its weakened state to his advantage, he threw himself against the gate, breaking through to the other side.

"You might want to let that Pokemon out now," Lulu advised, twirling a pair of handcuffs on her index finger, "If your commander found out you were taken in without a fight, he won't be happy."

There was a red flash and Houndoom was being confronted by a Shroomish. It looked up and its small legs were soon moving it backwards.

"Just take care of the pokemon, Tiny, or you'll get the boot!" The female grunt yelled, pointing at the Houndoom. "Now, use Stun Spore!"

The Shroomish inhaled, his mouth opening for the few seconds that it was visible. Aiming toward Houndoom he shook quickly and released a cloud of pollen.

So it was universal. Grunts are idiots. Lulu was the better trainer, and with the stronger Pokemon. Houndoom's quick instincts allowed him to avoid the spores with little effort.

"Flamethrower."

Only one word was needed, for immediately afterwords, a searing burst of flame flew straight towards the Shroomish.

The plume of flame was too harsh for Shroomish; it toppled over with a burned body and closed eyes. There was now an organic burning smell hanging on the air.

"Tch. You think you're so smart."

The grunt was scowling. She recalled Shroomish and took the last pokeball from her waist, looking frustrated. She threw the pokeball and out came a male Combee.

"Mud-slap that damn mutt!"

Flapping his wings toward Houndoon, the Combee threw up a mass of dirt.

"...cute."

Needless to say, her Houndoom was not impressed. he was hit by the dirt, but it wasn't enough to severely hinder his attacks. Lulu was sure another blaze of fire would do the trick, but no mercy would be given.

"Feint Attack!"

There was a sudden movement. The grunt looked around - she couldn't see Houndoom anywhere. The next thing she knew, Combee had been bitten. It was floating down and its opaque wings were half-fluttering in the dirt.

"Goddamn it."

Her face was twisted in rage and she glared at Lulu. "Stuck-up cow!"

"Insult me all you like, I'll see you at the station later."

Finally stepping through the gate, Lulu wasted no time getting the handcuffs around the grunt's wrists. Tall and toughened by police training, she made a move to force her captive on the ground.

"How many of you are here? Where is your leader?," she asked, the usual questions.

The grunt found it hard to talk with her face pressed into the ground.

"You think you're a policeman? Well I'm telling you nothing, copper. I wanna see your badge! And I want a lawyer!"

Lulu took her hands off the girl, and got back up to her feet. "...fair enough. If you want a lawyer, you have that right. I won't question you any further. I'll even leave, if you like."

"However," she started, turning to her comrade who growled, fangs bared, "Houndoom here is under no legal obligation. He's just a 'damn mutt', he doesn't understand human rights. He's even more fierce when unsupervised..."

Leaving her Pokemon instructions to stay with the grunt, she decided her time would be better spent venturing further into the mine than arguing with unhelpful kids.

"You go down with the lass, Kido." Alvar said, nodding. "I know the place but Rhydon or Golem could cause a cave-in if they fought down there and anything went wrong, I'll stay topside and make sure no more come in behind you."

He nodded again, he trusted both gym leaders were competent enough and didn't want to risk injuring anyone, even members of team Sol. He would also prefer to keep an eye on the Houndoom and make sure the pokemon did nothing more than detain and scare the grunt.

Back with Satomi, the young man listened attentively till he knew she'd finished speaking. He then turned and ran in the opposite direction, past Houndour and Espeon, past grunts who didn't precisely know where the other commanders were, and felt both relieved and scared. He was away from her but now he had to talk to another one who could be... Hell, he didn't know. Above ground. Deeper in the mine.

Suddenly he saw one, walking up the tunnel towards the entrance. He yelled loudly and winced when he saw the Crobat. He hated bats. "Commander! We've got a problem up top and I was told to tell you!"

Edgar blinked and felt himself tense slightly. What failure had these idiots committed this time? Wings winced slightly at the sound and was about to respond with a ferocious Supersonic, but Edgar held his hand up and beckoned the idiot closer.

"Explain and make it snappy." He calmly replied, touching Sword and Spear's Pokéball.

"Uh, course." This Commander was as bad as the other, so he scratched nervously behind his head like he'd done when confronted by her. "Well, she told me to say... the Champion's up there."

He waited for the inevitable explosion.

Murkrow had led Lulu in the opposite direction of Tamaki, so she'd agreed to split up. She'd taken down or avoided some grunts along the way, and finally ended up here.

"The champion isn't alone," she said. Lulu held a Pokeball in each hand, with Murkrow perched on her shoulder.

Edgar calmly reacted to the news with a chuckle, "Well, then I guess you're in for a fight, aren't you?"

The new voice caused Edgar to spin around slowly, his face still calm, "Ah, Lulu. Gym Leader and police officer. How quaint of you, assuming you have any chance at actually beating me. The Champion will be a problem, but this grunt here, if he wasn't such a coward, could probably take you. But he can't..." Edgar paused, "So I guess it's up to me. Are you ready for this girl?"

"We are not on a first name basis," she responded, choosing to ignore the rest of the useless taunts.

Lulu released the Pokemon from the ball in her right hand, Absol. She was always ready for a fight, growling at Edgar before he'd even made his selection.

"We're more ready than you'll ever be."

"Well, isn't that a shame." Edgar replied coldly, grabbing up Sword's Pokéball and releasing the Roserade.

"Alright then, you signed your contract to lose when you challenged me, so don't cry when I win." Edgar answered, grinning.

This was going to be good.

"Sword, Magical Leaf."

Satomi ran past Espeon and Houndour without even the slightest pause, recalling Espeon and urging Houndour to follow her. Her pace slowed as she shouted orders at the grunts still working on trying to find fossils. "This raid is nearly over. If you've found something, get out of here, if not...well, you're not going to find anything in the next few minutes."

She continued on with Houndour at her side, looking for Edgar. She had no idea where Kody was, but she did know that Edgar was in the gave somewhere. When she finally spotted him, he was involved in a battle. Her eyes narrowed slightly. Another gym leader, though this one was much more worthy of their attention than her opponent had been.

She approached them from the side, her eyes on the girl. "Are you sure you want to be concerning yourself with battle right now? I left one of your little friends further back in the cave suffering from quite the electric shock. An annoying blonde boy, Tamaki, I believe?"

Lulu didn't intend to back down just because Tamaki couldn't hold his own. She gave the other girl no more attention than a small glance, focusing on the task at hand.

Absol tried to dodge the leaves, but to no avail. Always feisty, she was up on her feet again in no time.

"Use Psycho Cut!," Lulu commanded. Absl made a mad dash towards Sword, the blade on her head glowing with psychic energy.

"Stand your ground and take the hit." Edgar commanded, watching the Absol strike his Roserade, which crippled under the blow.

"Get up Sword and use Petal Dance. Make sure you actually hit your target." Edgar responded, almost chiding.

Sword began to thrash around as petals formed from both arms, all reaching for Absol. That Pokemon had to go down.

While his Pokemon thrashed about and sent petals flying, Edgar quietly released Spark and gave the Pokemon instructions, threatening its life if it didn't follow. Whether or not Edgar gained the upphand mattered not now, he had his secret weapon waddling into place as he thought.

"Sucker Punch," she ordered. The Pokemon dashed forth, just as the petals were starting to spin. She barely had enough time to swipe her paws at the Roserade before being attacked by the barrage of leaves. Absol howled and bit at them, completely surrounded.

While Lulu was focused completely on the match, the Murkrow perched on her shoulder noticed another Pokemon sneaking up out of the corner of his eye. He squawked loudly, flying over for another look.

Spark waddled over at just the right distance and set off a spark to show Edgar. That was when Edgar heard the Murkrow. Stupid crow.

"Spark use Discharge and distracted them all!" Edgar commaned, rising slightly over his normally quiet tone.

The Chinchou charged up the eletric energy and suddenly, a light burst from its antenna. Edgar used that burst to recall both Pokemon with a swift movement. He then hurried away, careful to not make any noise.

Those damn idiots at the guard gate had obviously failed at their posts and he needed to find Satomi and grab what they had. It was time to pull out.
