Raid on Russet Mine
Who: Sol Commanders. Open.
What: Team Sol Raid.
Where: Russet City Mine.
When: Early morning. 7am till all day.
Note: Fossils are for Sol only. A grunt will take one.

The air smelled of petrol and dirt. There was constant noise; bulldozers, drills, explosives and trucks. Lifts carried miners into and out of the mine, and brought rock and ore out. Huge trucks, shovels and cranes were moving large quantities of minerals and dirt.

Except Russet City Mine was barricaded; the gate was closed and two large delivery trucks were parked in front of the entrance, preventing access. Two young adults, a boy and girl dressed in white sleeveless tops with trousers and skirt, stood guard. The miners who had been digging tunnels and shafts into the earth to reach buried ore had been driven out by Team Sol.

Their grunts were sifting through debris on a large conveyer belt located near the mine. It brought minerals to the surface through tunnels and shafts. A red stone, aflame on the inside, caught their attention and it was carefully placed inside a padded metal box. Heart Scales were tossed in a burlap sack and gold nuggets went in another.

The raid had been received with anger; miners had protested. But their Onix and Machop had been chased away by a large number of Shroomish and Combee. They kept digging.

The male at the gate didn't know what the Commanders wanted with fossils. They were just old bits of rock, he thought. They hadn't even found one! A person was walking by, watching them. He gave them a glare and yelled:

"Get lost! This is our territory!"

The mines were where Alvar trained, a place where Golem could cause all the destruction he liked and be considered helpful. Igglybuff rolled around by his ankles as he approached the loud grunt, trying to puff herself up and appear intimidating. Alvar was making no such effort and seemed confused and a little amused.

"Actually, lad, it's mine." He said with a wide, toothy grin.

The young man touched the bridge of his nose. It was always the same. If it wasn't some hot-blooded kid wanting to prove he was a hero, it was some old-timer wanting to show he still had life. But old people were the past and Sol were the future.

"Just get outta here before we bust you up," he said.

Alvar laughed. The sound of it was audiable clearly even over the noise of the mining equipment. Alvar was not a quiet person.

He reached for Terra's pokeball as he finally quietened down, then changed his mind and selected Golems. If there was goinhg to be a battle then Igglybuff would appreciate seeing Golem fight.

"You'll be busting up nobody, lad." He said, smile still there. "I'll tell you again, these mines are my territory. Gather up your mates and leave."

The female grunt wasn't taking Alvar nearly as seriously as she really ought to. She'd taken some Pokemon other old men had had and it amazed her still how they'd fight, knowing they weren't as strong.

And so she laughed even as they were chewed out, elbowing her partner in the ribs.

"Yeah yeah, I bet grumpy here'd have a hard time tossing you out on your ass."

She was tossing a Pokeball into the air again and catching it. No need to call the pokemon out yet.

It was in the middle of the more recent toss that the girl soon found the ball not coming back into her hand. There in the sky, holding the ball was a wingull that had caught it and was carrying it over to a young man sitting on some rocks near Alvar. His eyes twinkled with determination as he gave the red head a kind of smirk.

"Oh believe me he would have no trouble tossing both of you out on your cans. But I think it's the smart thing to play fair and give you the chance to leave before you get your asses handed to you." The young man smiled as he petted the wingull and took the ball from him. "Good boy River. We'll have to find out who owned this pokemon before."

Tamaki glanced over to Alvar, "Want some help with this sir?"

"Good timing, lad. Is my girl with you?" Alvar asked, apparently more interested in Tamaki than the grunts. He shook his head, remembering she wouldn't be. Her dojo was under scrutiny today, an inspector was visiting her to make sure it was a safe place to teach self-defence to humans.

"You shouldn't be assuming it's stolen just like that, mind. That pokeball could well belong to the lass here. As for that, I'd say it's thier choice."

He turned back to the grunts, apparently totally serious. "Would you like the young'en over there to help me?"

"Hey now I'm not a young'en, I"m twenty two for goodness sake," He smiled and set the ball carefully down. "Even if it is her's she's not teaching it the proper things. Now...what should we do about these guys."

Tamaki hopped off the rock he was perched on. While he was shorter then Alvar he still was tall enough to be imposing on anyone that saw him. Grinning and pulling out a pokeball he looked at Alvar, "I'm up for a confrontation if you are."

Edgar had been overseeing the actual mining and was pleasantly surprised. They had finally found a use for these useless lumps of stupidity. Maybe they should have them digging and mining more often. They'd definitely have less failure to report to the boss.

Edgar stretched and glanced up at Wings, who had found a rock jutting out of the wall and nodded. If the imbeciles were planning on stealing from the raid, then Edgar would find them eventually. Plus, to be honest, the dark mine was starting to wear on his nerves, along with constant stream of drilling noise and sudden explosions startled Wings.

Maybe the other two Commanders were wandering around down here and he could ask about their progress. At this point, his group had yet to produce a fossil, so when he got back there may or may not be threatening to be taken care of. Either way, a spot of fresh air could only do good. He may even catch some slacking off and have an excuse to force someone to go scout the deepest parts of the mines for valuable Pokémon, despite fossils being their main goal.

With that, Edgar took off towards the surface, Wings closely behind and above him.

If Lulu had left her bed any later, she wouldn't have received the call to check out the mine. Any news from Sol made her routine speed to three times as fast, and twenty minutes later she was in front of the mine and looking for a fight. It looked like she wasn't the first on the scene, but she would certainly be an asset.

Pity the gate was locked. No matter. Lulu tapped Murkrow's Pokeball, ordering him to fly ahead and find the leaders, and lead her back to them when she found a way into the gate.

"Go, Houndoom. Find a way in. And try to avoid destroying the gate completely."

"Those gates are none of your business, nosy."

An young woman had been drawn to the gate, alerted by the couple who'd ran away to warn their commanders. Better to guard and at least keep an eye open, she thought. She was tightly clutching a Pokeball in her right hand and seemed to be contemplating whether to throw it.

Her Pokemon snarled from behind the gate. Lulu sighed, but gave him the nod to do as he pleased. Without further delay, Houndoom opened his mouth, and a blast of flame flowed forth into the gate. Using its weakened state to his advantage, he threw himself against the gate, breaking through to the other side.

"You might want to let that Pokemon out now," Lulu advised, twirling a pair of handcuffs on her index finger, "If your commander found out you were taken in without a fight, he won't be happy."

There was a red flash and Houndoom was being confronted by a Shroomish. It looked up and its small legs were soon moving it backwards.

"Just take care of the pokemon, Tiny, or you'll get the boot!" The female grunt yelled, pointing at the Houndoom. "Now, use Stun Spore!"

The Shroomish inhaled, his mouth opening for the few seconds that it was visible. Aiming toward Houndoom he shook quickly and released a cloud of pollen.

So it was universal. Grunts are idiots. Lulu was the better trainer, and with the stronger Pokemon. Houndoom's quick instincts allowed him to avoid the spores with little effort.

"Flamethrower."

Only one word was needed, for immediately afterwords, a searing burst of flame flew straight towards the Shroomish.

Back with Satomi, the young man listened attentively till he knew she'd finished speaking. He then turned and ran in the opposite direction, past Houndour and Espeon, past grunts who didn't precisely know where the other commanders were, and felt both relieved and scared. He was away from her but now he had to talk to another one who could be... Hell, he didn't know. Above ground. Deeper in the mine.

Suddenly he saw one, walking up the tunnel towards the entrance. He yelled loudly and winced when he saw the Crobat. He hated bats. "Commander! We've got a problem up top and I was told to tell you!"

Edgar blinked and felt himself tense slightly. What failure had these idiots committed this time? Wings winced slightly at the sound and was about to respond with a ferocious Supersonic, but Edgar held his hand up and beckoned the idiot closer.

"Explain and make it snappy." He calmly replied, touching Sword and Spear's Pokéball.

"Uh, course." This Commander was as bad as the other, so he scratched nervously behind his head like he'd done when confronted by her. "Well, she told me to say... the Champion's up there."

He waited for the inevitable explosion.

Murkrow had led Lulu in the opposite direction of Tamaki, so she'd agreed to split up. She'd taken down or avoided some grunts along the way, and finally ended up here.

"The champion isn't alone," she said. Lulu held a Pokeball in each hand, with Murkrow perched on her shoulder.

Edgar calmly reacted to the news with a chuckle, "Well, then I guess you're in for a fight, aren't you?"

The new voice caused Edgar to spin around slowly, his face still calm, "Ah, Lulu. Gym Leader and police officer. How quaint of you, assuming you have any chance at actually beating me. The Champion will be a problem, but this grunt here, if he wasn't such a coward, could probably take you. But he can't..." Edgar paused, "So I guess it's up to me. Are you ready for this girl?"

Boredom was not something Satomi dealt that well with and that was all this mine had to offer her. She wasn't interested in fossils and if the boss hadn't insisted that all three of his commanders be here, she certainly would not have been. This was not a good situation. People, the good side, could easily come in here and end up describing each and every last one of them to the police.

That would not do. It would ruin any infiltration missions. Satomi just wasn't the type that enjoyed putting on a wig and playing a part. Infiltration was much simpler when you didn't have to create a false identity.

But arguing with the boss was something she would not do- at least not usually.

Houndour stood watch a little further up the cave and Espeon would occasionally assist the grunts near them by floating away one of the heavier rocks. Would Satomi lift a hand to help the grunts? Of course not. They were much too far below her for her to care.

The young male who'd been stationed at the gate inhaled, his hurried breaths welcomed thankfully for the moments he was able to pause. Using his stash of energy he fled into the mine. He wasn't nearly as fit as he ought to be. He'd failed to recognise the damn champion and now his career was in danger. He didn't want to be captured!

And so it was as much about self-preservation as getting a pay cut. He ran past other grunts, looking for one of the three Commanders. Running past a Houndour he assumed belonged to another grunt, he came across Satomi standing at the rear of the cave... doing nothing.

"We've been invaded!" he yelled to alert everyone. He'd save the news of the Champ for the Commander, though. Better not to cause a panic.

Satomi sighed and shot the boy an annoyed look. "Of course we've been invaded. All those self acclaimed "good guys" have nothing better to do with their time than stick their noses where they don't belong." She twirled a lock of her hair around her finger as she walked over to him. "You look nervous. Is there something else?"

Espeon came up to her side, glaring at the boy. Satomi gently brushed her fingers over the top of the psychic Pokemon's head. There had to be something else. With the amount of grunts around, they should be able to handle a couple trainers. Worry was only necessary if a Gym leader was out there. If it was the champion...well, Satomi didn't quite have a plan for that.

"Er, yeah." His Commander didn't seem to particularly appreciate his running into the cave but she apparantly knew, so he kept his mouth shut for a moment. He scratched nervously behind his head, "Well, dunno how to say this... the Champion's up there."

Had Satomi been less adept at hiding her emotions an obviously nervous expression would have shown on her face. She considered herself a fair battler. She could hold her own against many, she could probably hold her own against the Gym leaders, at least up until the sixth or seventh gym. But the champion? There was a reason he was the champion and Satomi was well aware that she couldn't do much she could do against him.

"Find the other Commanders and tell them. I'd prefer not to battle him but, if it comes to it, at least two of us will have to take him on. Hopefully we'll be able to defeat anyone else who's here. Maybe that will get him to leave, but I doubt it." She looked down at Espeon. "Go join Houndour. Don't hesitate to attack if you see anyone unfamiliar." Without a moment's consideration, Espeon hurried away from her trainer.

Had Satomi bothered to look up she would have noticed a Wingull make a fast circle over head then vanish just as fast as it had appered. Moments Later Tamaki came over the ridge and crouched down to listen. So there was more then one commander, was this girl one of them? Apparently so since she was giving orders. Really this was a pain, who did these people think they were.

"Then why not give up now? It would make things easier on yourself," Tamaki said from behind her as he jumped up from his hiding place and smirked, "You know it would take more then two of you to beat Alvar, I should know, when he went against me he had my poor Pokemon in a tailspin for a while. You on the other hand....I kinda doubt that. So how about giving up right now, we can get some pizza, I can take you to the police station...Right nice date if you ask me."

Edgar had run into the mines directly, knowing that he could lose the detective if she followed easily. He had to find Satomi, end the digging, grab the goods and flee. The idiots could find their own way out of this. Since none of them knew where the Base was, nor who they worked for, they were just disposable tools, like most Pokémon.

As soon as Edgar was sure he was not being followed, he hightailed it back to the digging site, his loud voice ready.

"We've been compromised. Grab what you have and let's move OUT!" Edgar called, staying calm.

Now all he needed was to find Satomi...
