An errant ray of sun woke Dominic rudely and he squinted and raised a hand to block the offending light. "Fuck off," he groaned and turned over, not quite aware that the bed he was in was not his own. Taking a deep breath he noticed an unfamiliar smell and he opened his eyes to find himself looking at the shoulders and back of a complete stranger. "Oh..." he said, realizing where he was as the memories came back to him. "shit." He rubbed his eyes and stretched and after taking a moment to gather his energy he sat up as quietly as he could. The last thing he wanted to do was wake up his temporary bed partner and have to deal with morning after conversation. Of course he wasn't going to be that lucky. He felt movement on the bed as he leaned forward to pick up his underwear. "Hey, are you leaving?" Dominic felt a hand on his back and he fought the urge to flinch. Instead he released a tiny little shock, enough to make the man in the bed pull his hand away. "Ow..." "Sorry. Yeah, I have to go to work," he said in reply to the question. "But it's Saturday." "Yeah. I don't work normal hours." Which was true, although he had nothing important to do that day. He just wanted to get out. "Can I call you?" "No," Dominic said as he finished buttoning his shirt and scanned the floor for his tie. He realized how harsh that sounded a moment later and turned to face the other man. "I'm really not.. I'm not in a position to start seeing anyone right now," he added, wanting to wince at how formal he sounded. "Oh," the other man said, his face looked confused and hurt and Dominic felt awful but he wasn't going to take it back. "Okay." Dominic didn't say anything else as he left the room. He could feel the other man's eyes on his back. In the entry he found a pair of sunglasses on an end table and he picked them up and slid them over his eyes. "And now I'm a thief," he muttered as he slid through the door of the apartment. But his head was pounding and there was no way he was going to walk home without something to shade his eyes. At the front door he looked around to get his barrings then furrowed his brow. "Shit, am I in Brooklyn?" He groaned loudly "fuck this!" He pulled his phone out of his pocket and dialed the number for a car service before plopping down on the stoop and rubbing his forehead. Nearby was a car parked on the curb and he stood for a moment and sucked the power from the car's battery. The energy took the edge off of his headache but his temples still throbbed. Thankfully it didn't take long for the car to arrive and the driver popped out and opened the back door for him. "Good morning, sir," He greeted quietly and Dominic mustered a polite smile as he climbed in. He felt like a washed up rock star as he settled in and fastened his seatbelt. He told the driver where he wanted to go then closed his eyes and apparently dozed off because the next thing he knew someone was tapping on the window. "We're here, sir," The driver said, waiting for Dominic to move away from the door before opening it for him. "Thanks," Dominic replied, giving him a tip and making the walk of shame through the lobby of Seagram Tower. His shirt was barely tucked in and his tie was draped around his shoulders and he realized he had forgotten his vest in Brooklyn. "oh well. Fair trade," he sighed and took off the sunglass and stuck the ear piece into the collar of his shirt. In his apartment he showered and wanted desperately to go back to bed but instead he got dressed again — looking much more presentable this time — and headed upstairs for breakfast. |
