Who: Ben and Giselle
What: a very important conversation over dinner
When: Saturday evening
Where: Ben's apartment
Rating: probably mild aside from some swearing and possible discussion of sex
Status: closed/incomplete
Cooking was the only thing keeping Ben calm this evening. An internal panic attack had been brewing ever since texting Giselle. He knew that telling her was the right thing to do. It was time. But that didn't make the conversation he was about to have any easier.
Of all his friends, Ben was closest to Giselle. They'd shared just about everything with one another… all but this one massive secret. The guilt from it had been eating away at Ben for years. He prayed Giselle would forgive him for lying, and hoped she would understand that he'd not done it to hurt her. For much of the time they'd been together, he'd genuinely tried to love her the way she deserved to be loved. He'd wanted to badly to be straight. It just wasn't meant to be.
Now he owed her an explanation. Ben had to come out of the closet to someone other than Daniel. Especially now, because with this new secret in his life, which was much more dangerous, Ben had to let go of the old secret. Starting with Giselle.
But for now, he was focused on dinner. Nothing too fancy. He'd spent more time picking out the wine than planning the meal. A nice 2011 Lake Chalice Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand. Crisp with citrus notes. Easy to pair with grilled vegetables and some pasta. Simple and easy, because he didn't think he could concentrate on something elaborate tonight. He'd cleaned and cut everything before Giselle was expected to arrive, but because it all would cook so quickly, he didn't actually start that process and wouldn't until she showed up.
