Surprising that I would be concerned for the direction the Order was heading after Kirkwall? Do you know how many declarations of the Right of Annulment were invoked in the wake of your actions, Anders? Those in the Gallows at Kirkwall didn't deserve such a fate, much less the innocents in Dairsmuid. And more would have been carried out had the mages not broken away when they did.

Hardly. Just waiting for word on whether or not you'd been rightfully punished.

Considering your own history, yes, it is surprising. After all you devoted to the Order, I would have thought you would have stayed to try to rebuild it. My actions? You don't think Meredith's actions had a part in things? Or Orsino's? Or the entirety of Maker damned Kirkwall? What I did wasn't easy and I live with it every day. But don't act like it was my actions alone that caused all of it. This had been building for a long time, Cullen.

No. Still kicking about. Must be terribly disappointing.

I stayed in Kirkwall until the city was in a reasonable sort of order, but I couldn't stay. And do you really think the Order cared about what had happened to Meredith? If anything, they thought she had the right idea. And all Orsino's actions did was prove them right. But it was your actions that motivated them to close ranks. It might have been building, but you're the one that set things in motion.

Yes. Fine. It was my fault. All of it. Everything that happened was because of me. And I should have died for it. I went into it thinking I would. Hell, I wanted to because I was so damn tired of living with this every day. But Hawke is a stubborn idiot and doesn't like killing her friends. So I'm alive and good people are dead and I don't know that any of it was worth it. There. Are you happy?

Wait around a bit. I'm sure someone will kill me sooner or later.

And so you have taken to privately criticizing me? Say what you mean. You are surprised because I am a murderer. Because I should be dead. Because I don't deserve the loyalty of people like the Commander and Hawke. Just say it. Don't couch it in civility. There is nothing you can say that I have not already thought myself.

Why should we? Give me a reason why we should bother being civil to one another. You will never understand why I did what I did. Even having seen the flaws of the Order, you still believe that it was a sudden change and not something that was always there. That giving people power over another group, a group they are taught is dangerous and cursed and less, won't end in abuse of power. I hate myself for what I did, but it brought about change that was necessary. It forced action.

The only reason you're trying to be polite is you don't want to be yelled at.

That was hardly the point of this. And yes, perhaps I was censoring myself to a degree, but calling you a murderer outright is hardly productive, whatever I might think in the moment.

Neria. No. I won't understand. I don't. Had you just destroyed the building, I could. I still wouldn't have liked it, but it would have been a symbolic action, the leveling of property to make a point and take a stance. But with Grand Cleric Elthina and all of the Sisters still inside? It will never make sense to me, whatever explanations you may give.

The powerful abuse, top down. I was not so blind that I didn't see that. I tried to ease it, to temper it, especially in Kirkwall when paranoia and rage were running high. But there is only so much one man can do when the tide is turning against him. ~~There were only so many I could keep safe. They were always so easy to lose, so much fear.~~

And yet, here I am. You seem to be doing a fine job of that on your own.
