Who: Alec Tremont and Mickey O'Hare
When: Friday, May 21, 2096
Where: Sea-Tac Airport
What: Alec arrives from Boston to meet Jimmy. Except not.
Status: Closed, Complete

Alec had been aware of the reinstatement of the Wild Card Acts, but only peripherally. None of his current crowd had a wild card, at least that he knew of, so it didn't have any immediate impact on him.

Then he'd gotten an email from Jimmy Banks, who he hadn't heard from in well over a year, and who he'd never been particularly close with in the first place. They'd worked together a few times on consulting gigs, but he wouldn't say they were friends, exactly.

Still, the proposition was interesting. Somehow Jimmy had gotten caught up in a group of wild cards that were being protected from the Acts by some kind of rogue senator. They were supposed to somehow sway public opinion, and apparently Jimmy thought he could be of help.

Alec figured that being able to insert things into the media certainly couldn't hurt. So he'd gotten on a plane from Boston and, after several tiresome confrontations with airport security over his tech, arrived in the Sea-Tac airport.

The trouble was, he couldn't find Jimmy anywhere, and he was starting to get annoyed.

"Head," Mickey snapped, voice tight. He could feel him in there, feel how upset Jimmy was. A thought and the music turned louder, drowning everything else out even his own mind. "Just-- how long have you known him?"

"Four or five years," Alec said. "Around that. Why?"

"Wrong Jimmy." Something twisted in his mind, furiously angry, and Mickey winced, shaking his head as if he could shake Jimmy loose. "Jimmy-- I-- I've had Jimmy for eight. You know the other one."

Alec gritted his teeth, his patience fraying. He drank the rest of the beer and went to get another before sinking back into the couch. "I'm sorry," he said, trying very hard to keep his temper. It wasn't really this poor schmuck's fault he was stuck explaining this insanity. "You're going to have to start from the beginning, because I have no idea what you're talking about."

It wasn't something Mickey liked explaining, least of all to this asshole he'd known for all of an hour, tops, whether Jimmy seemed to think he knew him already or not.

"You know Jimmy. The real one. The one here... he's--" Mickey stopped, trying to make sense of it around the noise. A soft strain of music slipped from his lips, words dancing off his tongue as he lost control of that while his mind worked on coherent explanations. "--a copy," he finished. "I walked into him, and took him away with me, and now he's stuck. Here." Mickey rubbed at his ear with the heel of his hand. "Can't get him out--" the last word was strangled with the pain that thought gave.

"You'll meet him when he wakes up one day. Can't say when."

"Is that your Ace then?" Alec asked. "You absorb people? Were you crazy before Jimmy took up residence in your skull, or only after? How many of you are there?" It was all asked with a sort of clinical detachment, like he didn't care what the answers were, one way or another.

"Joker. It's a joker," Mickey insisted. "Walking through walls, that's the ace, but this, having them, all this noise, that's no ace."

"Semantics," he said dismissively. "So did Jimmy leave you any mental notes on why exactly he wanted me here? What you're doing? I got the Cliffs Notes version of things, I think. A government official has decided to oppose the reinstatement of the Wild Card Acts by creating some sort of modern day X-Men. However, I've not drawn, so what is my purpose?"

"You'll have to ask him." Mickey shook his head; the information didn't include what Jimmy wanted of him, just enough to let him know that Jimmy knew everything he could about this man, almost as if he knew him himself. "But not everyone here's an ace. We've got jokers and nats, all kinds. Showing how we all get along."

"Jimmy's left you her information; you can get in contact with her for more details." Mickey wasn't going to say her name if Jimmy hadn't already. That was for the two of them to hash out.

"Do you know where he left the information? Because I would love the chance to speak to her about all of this."

That took more thought, scrolling through memories and notes and trying to find the one bit that mentioned where Jimmy had set a chip. "Upstairs. Third room, left. It's empty, there's a desk, it's in the drawer. Encrypted to you. Should-- should have everything you need." Mickey's voice was remote, only half paying attention as he listened to the information inside his head.

"Where do you go?" Alec asked, leaning forward to peer at him. "You're obviously not here. Where are you?"

Mickey blinked, not understanding the question at first. He came back to reality slowly, rewinding what he'd heard so he could figure it out. "Here." He pushed at his ear, trying to get rid of the flood of information Jimmy had set free. "Can't go anywhere else."

"Mm. I suppose you can't, at that." He got up, grabbing his bags. Something in him seemed to soften, just for a second. "Thank you for picking me up." And then he turned and headed up the stairs.
