Lunch Time Escape (Edward)

Jonathan sighed as he looked around before lighting up the cigarette he stole from one of his nurses, giving a sigh of pleasure as the nicotine hit his system, smoke curling out from beneath his lips. He had quit in medical school, but occasionally he needed he release the drug gave him, and after a full day of patients and trying to figure out a way to make things up to Edward, he was desperate for the drug.

He still had no idea what he was going to do with Edward, but he knew they needed time away from Arkham. And so Nightmare was waiting in front of him, prancing around as she finally got a chance to stretch her legs. The horse in question shook her main, her reigns shifting as she moved over and nudged Jonathan, eager to get moving.

Jonathan grinned, a warm, true smile as he nuzzled her, holding her close. "Soon, I promise," he whispered, placing a kiss along her nose.

	Eddie sighed. He felt a little better when Jonathan kissed the spot, looking at his husband with a smirk. "Never. Why would I do such a thing?" He took a sip from the cup he'd picked back up, looking at Jonathan over the rim innocently. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

	"Because you're a selfish, self absorbed twit on occasion?" Jonathan said bluntly, though his smile softened the edges of his words. He reached out, taking Edward's free hand. Eddie shrugged and nodded. "Sounds about right." He set his drink aside and focused his attention on Jonathan. He squeezed his husband's fingers softly and licked over his own lips.

Clearing his throat, Edward did something he had NEVER done in his life. "I'm sorry. For....you know..." Eddie said softly, green eyes cast down at the blanket.

Despite his issues, ones he knew quite well that he had, he wanted things to work between them. He was more than aware that Jonathan's alter-being hated his existence but Eddie could deal with that so long as Jonathan wasnt turning him away.

Of fantasizing about other men.

	"It's alright...but what the hell happened?" Jonathan asked, concerned. Fantasizing was normal and healthy, ne of the few things he had that was normal about him and it concerned him, how badly Edward had reacted. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

Edward breathed through his nose in response.

His eyes didn't leave the blanket as he processed through exactly what to say to Jonathan. His hold never relinquished on Jonathan's own. Almost as if he needed the support.

"I..." Edward began, closing his eyes. He took a breath, head still down. His ego wouldn't let him face Jonathan directly. Especially since he never admitted he was wrong. Much less afraid.

"I'm afraid of losing you....to someone else...to anything." Edward said, almost choking on his words as his fear came to light. He supposed it was fair Jonathan knew. He assumed the Scarecrow would know too. But maybe that was for the best.

"That I would lose you to Hannibal. Or someone better than me." Edward knew how difficult he could be. But he cared so much for Jonathan.

Slowly, Eddie raised his head and his eyes opened, looking in to Jonathan's blue eyes for a moment. His face was serious, void of any jesting or humor. He felt weak, as if the admission made him less of a person.

Jonathan squeezed Edward's hand lightly, encoraging him to speak. His heart swelled and broke at the sametime for the man's words and he leaned in to kiss Edward, only to have his path detour to the man's ear. "You will," Scarecrow hissed, giving a loud, cackling laugh.

And then promptly ended up face first in Edward's lap as Jonathan forcibly took control back from his other half, not even close to allowing his other to torment Edward, not now.

"Hate him," Jonathan muttered into Edward's thigh before raising his head. "Sorry."

The breath in his ear from the Scarecrow made Eddie's frown deepen. He hated the Scarecrow too. If only they could get along. They would make quite the evil pair. But Eddie was only as good as he could be, being human. When Jonathan's head ended up in his lap, Eddie looked down and blinked. It was then Edward smiled. He brushed the fingers of his free hand through Jonathan's dark hair, purring at him. "Me too, baby. But I love you. And that's what matters." When Jonathan lifted his head, Eddie's hand fell from the mans hair back to the side it had been at before, and Eddie sighed.

Edward accepted the kiss, eagerly. He was grateful for the words that followed and knew that Jonathan was being honest.

"Id die at yours, too. No matter what." Eddie mumbled into the kiss, nuzzling the ends of their noses together. "You are the world to me, baby. Id never do anything to hurt you." Eddie said, serious. He pulled from the kiss and lifted his hand, cupping Jonathan's cheek.

"You know I would give anything to make you happy, right?" Eddies eyes searched Jonathan's face, hoping his husband knew just how much it hurt Eddie's ego to even be admitting any of this. But Edward didn't give a flying crap about his ego just then. He wanted Jonathan to know that he had Edward forever. Til death do them part, no matter if they were really married or just pretended to be.

	Edward frowned. "I wish that someone liked me more. It's frustrating having your alter-ego hate me. He wants to kill me." All he wanted was for all of them to get along. Or at least peacefully co-exist. But he took comfort in Jonathan's words. And his touch. Eddie savored these moments and for once in his miserable existence he was actually happy. 	Eddie rolled his eyes. "I know. I know!" The fact irritated him more than Enigma did. However at the affectionate brush, Eddie couldn't help but smile. "So am I. He's just going to have to deal with it. Or learn to accept me. I don't mind being his friend." He was glad Scarecrow couldn't outright kill him too. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

"I wish there was a way to convince him." Eddie didn't care much for sharing his things either. Even when it came to his daughter. Much less his husband.

Whatever it took, Edward would do it. Scarecrow was part of Jonathan, the man Eddie would end his life for, and they couldn't hate each other forever. Well, they probably could but Eddie didn't want to.

It was counterproductive. And Eddie was far too selfish for that.

	Edward only nodded, holding Jonathan close. It was enough that Jonathan loved him. If the Scarecrow came around, that would be a bonus for the gangster. If not, Eddie would live with it. It wasn't as though he hadnt already. He wouldn't push the Scarecrow despite wanting to. For Jonathan's sake. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

Edward just held Jonathan close. He couldn't imagine sharing this moment with anyone else. Nobody else could tolerate him, much less find him easy to love. And for those large attributes Edward owed Jonathan a great deal.

Not even Enigma could spoil this moment. Edward wished he could be close to his daughter, but she was barely within reach now. She only made him upset and he pushed her out of his mind. He savored the serenity with Jonathan, knowing moments like this were few and far between.

	"You're going to have to deal with her eventually," Jonathan said softly. He had felt the sudden tenseness of Edward's body before the man relaxed, and he could guess the cause. Edward's body had betrayed him but he wasn't upset about it. If anyone know how his relationship was with his daughter, it was the man in his arms.

"I hate her. So much.." Eddie growled, his eyes narrowing. "I keep trying to kill her." He was out of options. He hadnt forgotten Jonathan's suggestion about bombing Damon's house. And that wasnt out of the question.

But Edward wanted to settle it within the kinship if he could. Eliminate her completely.

That was true. He loved her far too much. Too much than anyone honestly would ever know and to see her parading around the City, being someone that she wasn't...it broke his heart. Or what was left of it.

He looked down at Jonathan as the man's head settled against his thigh. Effie's long fingers slithered through the dark strands of Jonathan's hair and he sighed. "I don't know if anyone will really ever understand it." Eddie replied. Even he didn't understand her sometimes.

She wanted love and to be loved, and yet she sought people that could never truly understand or care for her like he could. Like anyone of their kind could. Sure they were bad guys, but they had purpose.
