His eyes didn't leave the blanket as he processed through exactly what to say to Jonathan. His hold never relinquished on Jonathan's own. Almost as if he needed the support.
"I..." Edward began, closing his eyes. He took a breath, head still down. His ego wouldn't let him face Jonathan directly. Especially since he never admitted he was wrong. Much less afraid.
"I'm afraid of losing you....to someone else...to anything." Edward said, almost choking on his words as his fear came to light. He supposed it was fair Jonathan knew. He assumed the Scarecrow would know too. But maybe that was for the best.
"That I would lose you to Hannibal. Or someone better than me." Edward knew how difficult he could be. But he cared so much for Jonathan.
Slowly, Eddie raised his head and his eyes opened, looking in to Jonathan's blue eyes for a moment. His face was serious, void of any jesting or humor. He felt weak, as if the admission made him less of a person.
