Question kitty has some questions! Some character development questions!
• What is in your refrigerator right now? On your bedroom floor? On your nightstand? In your garbage can?

• Look at your feet. Describe what you see there. Do you wear dress shoes, gym shoes, or none at all? Are you in socks that are ratty and full of holes? Or are you wearing a pair of blue and gold slippers knitted by your grandmother?

• When you think of your childhood kitchen, what smell do you associate with it? Sauerkraut? Oatmeal cookies? Paint? Why is that smell so resonant for you?

• You are doing intense spring cleaning. What is easy for you to throw out? What is difficult for you to part with? Why?

• What is one strong memory that has stuck with you from childhood? Why is it so powerful and lasting?

• You are getting ready for a night out. Where are you going? What do you wear? Who will uou be with?

• What is in your refrigerator right now? On your bedroom floor? On your nightstand? In your garbage can?

I believe I left vegetables in my refrigerator, not sure what else. They're probably bad by now, though. My bedroom floor is relatively clean but for my shirts... I've no idea why I can't keep those in the laundry bin. My alarm clock and a couple publications about genetics are on my nightstand, my garbage can is just full of paper and a couple napkins and coffee cups. Oh. And twinkie wrappers.

• Look at your feet. Describe what you see there. Do you wear dress shoes, gym shoes, or none at all? Are you in socks that are ratty and full of holes? Or are you wearing a pair of blue and gold slippers knitted by your grandmother?

I.... see apelike appendages. They're not covered by anything too often, anymore, except a bandage on one from some broken glass in a storm.

• When you think of your childhood kitchen, what smell do you associate with it? Sauerkraut? Oatmeal cookies? Paint? Why is that smell so resonant for you?

I always associate the smell of lemon with the kitchen. My mother used it to eliminate any smell of chemical cleaner. I remember it whenever I sit down to study, as it was constant when I was young and being home schooled.

• You are doing intense spring cleaning. What is easy for you to throw out? What is difficult for you to part with? Why?

I'm not too attached to many material possessions, but I cannot for the life of me let go of books. A side effect of being trained to regard them as sacred, I'm sure, my old apartment was bursting with them.

• What is one strong memory that has stuck with you from childhood? Why is it so powerful and lasting?

I remember the day I found I was ineligible for reparative surgery for my feet. It had been something my parents had flown me to a specialist to be examined for, when I was four, and they'd been quite eager to find out what could be done to repair my body. The looks they gave each other when the doctor had expressed his regret, and then my shoed feet, is something I'll never forget. Of course, by the time we reached the parking lot they'd forced new faces and were talking about home schooling and then college, but it was never right after that.

• You are getting ready for a night out. Where are you going? What do you wear? Who will you be with?

Ideally I'd love to go to a classic opera, all dressed up in a tuxedo. I suppose I'd be going by myself, I'm not sure any of my friends would be interested unless Dr. Hannibal likes opera.

Mmm. Books. Probably all scientific ones.

Dear Henry, you should aspire to so much more. And damn those parents of yours, they did you a great disservice.

Ah. Yes. All Scientific.

Except the romance novel, though that was highly recommended by a nurse, so I couldn't say no.

Aspire to more? In what sense?

My parents took care of me. My world was not safe for somebody like myself, so they took great pains to protect me until I was old enough to keep myself safe. I'd much rather be stranded on a new world with apprehension regarding my own form, than be still trapped in my own world as a science project subject or something of the like.

Henry, your parents instilled in you a self-loathing. Do not excuse them by saying they protected you. They created a child who dislikes himself in such a way that he is always looking for a change. You'll never find perfection because you do not have them to tell you you have achieved it. Even if you did, it would never be enough. This sort of parenting angers me.

Red, perhaps you mean well, perhaps you don't, but you should know I don't take kindly to people saying such things about my parents. They were not perfect, perhaps they could have done better, but they loved me and gave me every opportunity they could. Kindly back off.

Of course.

Children rarely like it when their parents are questioned.
