Local custom? Or just an oddity?

It's called peep jousting! I guess they don't do that where you're from?

I think it's safe to say they don't do it where I'm from - so it'd be a local custom then?

That depends on what you mean by local. It's definitely a think where I'm from.

Well, Lawrence, Kansas this world?

Has anyone considered the cruelty of making small bright colored birds fight for the amusement of others?

This world, however many dimensions just like it there are. I'm from Earth, but it's not this one, weird as that sounds.

They're not real birds, though. They're candy. Sugar and marshmallow, basically.

Considering that I'm from another galaxy, it sounds less weird than it might otherwise.

Clearly I need to work on my sarcasm in print - I'm out of touch apparently.

So, they're edible is what you're saying?

I think sarcasm is one of those things that doesn't translate well over the internet.

Technically real birds are edible, too, but yes.

That's a pity, because it's one of my finer qualities.

Yeah, chicken, they're birds yeah? I've had those.

Chicken, pheasant, quail, turkey... Lots of edible birds.

This is new to me so it might be an American thing. Either that or I am woefully out of touch with what is cool these days.

Pretty certain I've never been up with what is 'cool these days', it's the downside of traipsing about with your father, hearing about the old days and the Empire every night before bed.

You're not American?

I was so involved in science and learning about the human body that I simply didn't have any interest in what was cool until I was a teenager. I inherited my father's taste in things, I suppose. And depending on how entertaining those stories were I may have asked for them at least until my teen years. Then I would have been too embarrassed for bedtime stories.

No, I'm not. I'm British. I was originally from a small village but when I was brought here I was living in London.

To be fair, I kind of tried cool on for a period and I realized it wasn't all it was cracked up to be. So, my Dad and I set off to wander around space on a wild goose chase.

British - that's pretty much the other side of this planet then?

It sounds like you came to the same conclusion I did. And that could have been interesting, though I imagine it also got frustrating.

Not quite. It's only a few thousand miles away. Australia would probably be considered more on the other side of the world.

Did you end up wandering around space with your Dad too? Cause if so we should maybe start a club.

Got it - I'm slowly figuring out where the continents and stuff all match together.

Sadly no, though my father may have enjoyed it. Space travel isn't something that's readily available in this time and place.

I imagine it can be quite confusing. But I think you'll get it soon enough.

I had kind of noticed that. I think eventually I'll miss it. I've done so much of it recently though, that it's kind of nice to just stay put. Even though it'd be nice to do it someplace I'm more familiar with.

I'm Ben, by the way. Don't know if we've really met.

Well, hopefully when you do begin to miss it you can find something to replace it. And I know the feeling. I'm lucky enough that I'm able to go home if i want to, even if it isn't exactly my home.

I don't believe we have. I'm Molly.
