River Tam functions like a girl ([info]fruityoatybars) wrote in [info]wariscomingcom,

I think I should have liked to stay a ninja, to have Family. A mind without purpose will perforce wander dark places. But a stream cannot choose where it flows, subject as it is to the whims of geography.

Now we've divided again, and everyone's afraid, or angry. And it all flows into and through her, like sand through grasping fingers.

I want to help. With the Vampire. How can I help?

The pirates vs ninjas scenario was much more preferable to vampires, you're right.

Do you have any experience with vampires?

We didn't / don't / won't have them where I was / am / will be from. Relic of Earth That Was. Presumed to be fictional, result of paranoia surrounding the human body's pattern of decay - receding gums giving the impression of fangs, discharge of fluids resembling bloodied lips, etcetera etcetera and so forth.

That's okay. A lot of people here come from places where they didn't exist. That's probably a good thing.

I know there are some of us who are out there patrolling the city for them, but if your experience is limited I don't want to put you at risk. What we could use is someone to track things from the inside. I've got a police scanner that I borrowed? set up and it would really help to have someone listening out and updating everyone on potential attack locations.

Less than sanguine at the prospect they might once have done; we have our own monsters.

We have two ears and one mouth, so we should listen more than we say. Thus spoke Zeno. The wisdom still holds. I should like to be our ears, either one or both of them. Yes.

Everyone does. Some in the not so literal sense, though.

You're very strang Good. Do you know how to operate a scanner?

VHF. UHF. APCO-25. Set squelch, establish most appropriate steps (12.5, 6.25, accuracy is all). Blessent mon cœur d'une langueur monotone. It's not difficult.

Do you know how to work a scanner? She could teach you, if you like.

She? I've got some experience. Where did you learn to work one?

The theory is not complicated. Principles of radio communication remain the same as technology advances.

Family is a very important thing. I grew up without one but now that I have one, I can't imagine what life would be like if I didn't have them.

Lost one, built another. Little and broken but it was mine and it was good and I would like very much to have it back.

Gege always finds me, but Gege will not be born for many years yet.

Even little families can be very special. I'm sorry that you lost yours.

Who is Gege?

Dubuqui. I forget, sometimes; languages ebb and flow and lap against my shoreline like the tide. It means "Big Brother".

Languages can be very confusing. Your big brother was here and now is gone? That must be difficult for you.

I suppose it must. We are not used to difficulty. Things usually come so easily.

You have people here now?

Depends on who answers you I suppose. Everyone has a different opinion on what to do.

What do you think we should do?

Personally I don't care much. Although I would be curious to find out if they'd do this for everyone. I don't think the people in my family would garner such understanding.

I personally prefer not to be a pirate. At least not for good.

I guess that depends. There's patrols. And I know there's a meeting about the problem.

Lacking in data on the pirate experience. There was a unity of purpose to the ninjas. We occupied Graves House. We fought as one. Now there is only confusion and anger and divergence. She misses the clarity.
