When his hand covered her mouth, she blinked in surprise. And then his bauble came out of his pocket and she knew. Somehow, instinctively, she knew. By the time it processed, though, by the time her head wrapped around what was happening, the words were out of his mouth. It felt like time stopped as she held her breath and waited.
Then his face broke into a smile. The bauble had disappeared. The wish had worked. She looked over when he did and saw what he did; her handsome boyfriend reflected back at them. Her mouth would have dropped open in shock but then he was kissing her, again and again, and she didn't dare pull away.
"Are you...Mitchell...you can't just..." But he was laughing. He was happy. No, he was thrilled. And god, she wanted to be happy, too. A part of her had hoped for this for so long now. All of her fears about their future were eased. But what if he regretted it? What if he began to resent her, for making him want this? Her hand reached up, touching his cheek, stretched from smiling so widely. "You're sure? You're absolutely sure?" Not that there was much to be done about it now.
