When you've lived through as many changes in Russia as we have, when it's impacted you as personally as it has us, you notice things.
I personally don't think it's going communist tomorrow or anything. But their economy is troubling, Putin's lack of concern for his people is heartbreaking, and the fact that they knew they were to be on the world stage and still left parts of the city in ruins? Well. It doesn't speak highly to their politics.
