Don't call me Nymphadora. It's Tonks. ([info]tonksadora) wrote in [info]wariscomingcom,

No evil
I was thinking this morning, about everything that's been happening this week. It's been a crap week, that much is obvious, and I take it it hasn't gotten much better for a lot of people. At the same time, thinking about everything that's happened and what I've been reading on the boards, people are helping each other through the hurt and sticking together and that's... well, a really good thing, I think.

Whatever Lucifer is trying to do, right now, it's kind of destined to backfire. Isn't it? So many people here have loved ones from home, and if not, friends they've made here. People who understand and who care and are willing to listen or talk or bring you ice cream or get drunk with you or whatever. We can help each other, and we care about each other, and that's exactly what we need to keep doing. It's not all that different from what I was facing back home, and the people in my life were what got me through back there. At least for when I was there.

I don't know. I'm just feeling weirdly optimistic and frankly more like myself for a change. I'm sure it's not going to stick, and I'm not about to let my guard down over it. But dwelling on the bad parts is just going to make it worse. No one wants that.

[Dad]

I'm sorry

I'm assuming you've talked to Mum. How are you two holding up? I still have no idea what to say to her.

That's a very nice sentiment though it doesn't necessarily work if you only just arrived and the one person you know is an acquaintance at best. It seems to me that if Lucifer is doing all this, it's likely because he's nervous that he won't win.

That's what I'm hoping, anyway. It's something.

Are you new around here? I don't think I know you.

I arrived yesterday morning. My name is Sydney.

It's nice to meet you. I'm Tonks. Lawrence definitely takes some getting used to. I've only been here a few months and half the time I still feel lost.

A few...months. How long are people typically here?

Well... I know people who have been here a year or longer. But others get sent back without any warning. So unfortunately there's not a very good answer to that.

Yeah, I did, and we're doing alright. It isn't something I think she wanted to hear, but she was able to tell that something was up, so now that it's out there, we can help each other through it.

How are you doing, love?

That's good. That's really good. I can't imagine what this all must be like for her. For either of you, really, but especially her. It's... really weird being older than your mum.

I think I'm okay. I'm trying to be, at least.

She's had a hard enough time trying to just catch up to my point in the timeline, but she's trying for you, as well.

Dora, I'm glad you told me. It wasn't something to keep to yourself.

I appreciate it. I hope she knows that. I really am glad you're both here, in spite of everything else. And I really don't want things to be weird.

I know it wasn't. I just wish I could change it.

I just got here, like, yesterday so I have literally NO fucking clue what's going on or anything, but as a general rule, I tend to assume the best. Because it takes positive thought to produce positive results. If you just focus on the negative, then that's all you'll ever see. Which is bad. Obviously.

And I think also, as a general rule, people DO tend to stick together. Or come together in times when it's needed. So whatever's happening? People will totally get through it. As long as they don't let Lucifer (oh my god, it's so weird typing that and thinking this is really him and not a crazy whackjob that just THINKS he's the devil what even has my life become seriously) get to them too bad and everybody sticks together? Nothing can take us down.

It's not always easy to look on the bright side here, but it seemed like a good thing to try, instead of making myself miserable over bad news. Because there's probably always going to be bad news.

But seriously: can we find a way to bottle your optimism? Because for someone who just got here you seem to have plenty to spare.

I don't think it's ever always easy to look on the bright side but it's usually worth searching for! I think that's the right way to go about it, though! You have to keep up morale somehow, right?

If that was possible, I'd be on it quick! Well, it helps since my dad is here. And better this than focusing on

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]tonksadora
2013-09-25 05:12 pm UTC (link)
Exactly. Or at least spend enough time telling yourself it's worth it that you believe it. :)

Oh, that's a good thing when you've just arrived. I had a few friends here when I got here, but since then my parents and boyfriend have shown up too. It doesn't fix everything, having them around, but it definitely helps.

I'm Tonks, by the way. What's your name?

It's always worth it!

This, basically.

.....Tonks? Like... Nymphadora Tonks? Are you so serious right now?! James said there were fictional people but I didn't really think that was possible and omg you said your parents and your boyfriend are here! Remus was the best DADA prof HANDS DOWN! Just saying! Oh yeah and I'm Jesse!

Whoa Ugh not Nymphadora please That's me. I take it you've read our books? Besides Remus and my mum and dad there's a few more of us here as well, and loads of other fictional people too. (And I'm usually just Tonks. But you probably knew that already.)

I have! All the way through the sixth one. The last one wasn't out yet back home. Oh, I know! But it was mostly clarification? That is SO cool that there of many of you guys here though! I mean, I know that's probably weird for you but yeah. I mean, I grew up with the books and movies and stuff so it's like really awesome to meet you!

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]tonksadora

It's nice to meet you too. I've read the first three since I've been here (and I'm here from nearly the end of Harry's fifth year) but I haven't seen any of the movies. (Remus would be my favorite Defense Against the Dark Arts professor too, even if I wasn't completely biased.)

I guess it's sort of weird, but it's also just sort of normal? You're the first person I've talked to who's seemed so excited to meet me, though.

Is it weird, being fictional? Knowing all these people know stuff about you but you don't know them at all? Remus was totally the bes, I'll back you on this, with no date-y bias! lol

Really? That's crazy. You're one of my favorites!

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]tonksadora
2013-09-25 09:35 pm UTC (link)
Seriously? I didn't know I was anyone's favourite. Or maybe I just thought Harry would be everyone's favourite since he's the main character.

It's a little weird, I guess, but everyone's been really nice about not spoiling anything that hasn't happened to me yet (until recently, at least). The mixed-up timelines are way weirder, though. Everyone's from all over the place. My dad's only a few years older than me and my mum hasn't even had me yet where she comes from. And there are other people here who are from even further in the past or future.

Harry is awesome, definitely. Gah, there's hardly any of Team Good Guy I didn't like.

Team Good Guy. Haha.

It's okay. I mean, no, it's not really, but. Well, like I said. I'm trying the whole optimism thing over again. It seems like it's helping.

I'm not so sure I want to think too hard about what kind of ways those would be. It kind of defeats the original optimisticness.

Not books, though.

You know, I agree 100 percent with this. And as far as optimism? I think that's definitely what we need more of right now, especially for some of us getting unwanted gifts. Though having positive thoughts is usually good for any situation.
