For those of you who were friendly with him, I went by Jonathan's apartment today. I believe he's been taken home. ~~Which means he's~~ ~~Just like the rest of them now~~ ~~First Belle, then Glinda, and now~~

I'm unsure how I feel about the Oscar presentation as well. I suppose in the grand scheme of everything terrible that happens around here, it's hardly anything to be concerned with. ~~And yet I can't stop thinking about~~

You make it sound so simple, 'Ponine. As if I can simply walk away from what I've done, what they did for me. As if remembering could ever not hurt. I'll try. But I don't know if that's something I can promise.

	Believe me, I know they were my friends. They fought because I told them France was worth dying for. That it was better to give up their lives than to not fight at all. But was it? We...you might have won if the people had not been so scared. France was worth it, you taught me that, you and Marius, you spoke and you made even someone like me understand. You think I kept coming back to the meetings just for him? I came to listen, because I wanted to have a chance to make things better, have a better life than thieving, seeing family tossed out on the street to make their own way, heavily persuaded to marry someone I couldn't stand to have look at me.

They weren't all like you, Eponine. If they were, they'd have been there, they'd have stood with us. Perhaps the ammunition might've been saved, perhaps we'd have had the arms we needed.

Ron says we made a difference. I don't know if I see it. There's still too many hungry, too many living on the street. Too many girls like you who didn't think they had any other way out.

Fear is a dangerous and terrible thing. Seeing the armies, seeing the first attacks, people would always run, then you had people like my parents only out for what they could steal off the dead and dying. That's what they made France, that's what Paris was and that's what you all tried to stop. You made a difference, France hasn't got a King now, I read it, and its got education for everyone, and a proper government that's not just rich people. Its different, and who's to say that wasn't down to people like you.

And don't you worry about girls like me, girls like me get by. They know how to, it ain't pretty but its life.

I will always worry about girls like you. Someone needs to. Someone should have then, and I won't stop now, either. You have to understand, that's who I am. I will always fight for those who deserve something more. Even when they're too afraid to fight for themselves. Even when they believe that's what they deserve. You are an asset to your class, a model for them all. I hope you know that. Even here and now, with only a short education and little parental support behind you, you've come so far and made so much of yourself. I just want that for everyone, is that so wrong? ~~Why did it have to end the way it did? Why did they have to die just so people could live~~

No one could have expected that. But you gave them a chance to leave and they stood with you. That means something.

Oh people cared about your words, always. But I didn't know you as I do now, I'd love to have been able to show you my Paris. I'm not sure if you'd ever really seen what you talked about. I thought about it sometimes but then ~~Marius was there and everything else just seemed to be less impor~~ things were different then.

I suppose. I don't think Grantaire even knew where he was he was so lost in his bottle. But the others...perhaps you're right. Or maybe they simply stayed because I'm a persuasive leader when taking an army to its death.

I would have liked to see it through your eyes. Might've made the speeches more convincing, might have made the people stand with me. I walked the streets a few times, making myself blend in and trying to see it all. I'm not stupid, you know, I did have a clue what I was doing. But someone to guide, to point things out would have been helpful.

I think sometimes he was less lost in it than he let on to people. I think sometimes he understood more than you think.

And they stayed because of you and because they believed in freedom.

There's still a darker side to this world, the bit a man like you would never have seen, you still fight those injustices so I can show you that. I know about that. Though Monsieur you could never have blended in in places like that!

But your speeches came from the heart. That's all the convincing I needed anyway

Oh, you are a smart one. It's true, many times he didn't want to be bothered. Or he didn't want to be asked anything important. Admittedly, once he was sober, we had some excellent talks with plenty of ideas. He was a smart man, he just didn't want to face the world as it was.

You assume too much, petite. I know the people I stood for. I do now, too. To you and to the other men, I looked the part of leader, or revolutionary. But I do know how to hide when it's needed. And I did, for a bit. Though not as in depth as I'd have liked and I hadn't even considered doing so in this world. Though it isn't as taboo to get involved in this time.

Still, would you like to? Maybe there are ways we can help.

I think people often looked at the two of us and wondered why we were friends. But honestly, I knew him better than most. I knew him before he discovered liquor. It was an easy way to hide, and even when he wasn't truly drunk, he wasn't expected to be involved because everyone already thought he was.

Believe me, I know there's still suffering. There are still people who go to bed hungry, families with no home to call their own, children not getting an education. I do what I can now but it isn't enough. If you think seeing the world on that side, from their point of view, would help, then I'm more than willing.

I appreciate your help. It means a lot that you're willing to.
