Who: Pike, Faith, and eventually a demon
What: Collecting the kryptonite and, eventually, getting waylaid by a demon
When: Early evening.
Where: Their favorite pizza place, for starters. After that, who knows.
Rating: PG-13
Status: Complete

“I-I-I just really don’t know how those got in here!”

Pike chuckled, waving a dismissive hand while clutching the lead lockbox he’d purchased specifically for kryptonite containment in the other. “Ahhh, don’t worry about it, this stuff can happen sometimes.” He smiled at the two flummoxed owners of this fine establishment and waggled the lockbox at them. “Foreign materials like this have a way of wandering in sometimes. It’s no big, and we nipped it in the bud before anybody could get really sick.” He gave them a casual, one-shouldered shrug. “I don’t really think I need to call my superiors on this one. You guys run a tight ship, accidents happen, I get it.”

He was currently operating under the guise of Oliver Pike, health inspector. Sure, he didn’t have a badge to show off, but with the right kind of bluster you could get in and out before anybody questioned you. He’d claimed that both he and Faith were working with the FDA, that they had heard people who were eating here were getting sick. The last couple days, he’d claimed, they were testing things out. Neither of them got sick, but their superiors wanted them to do a check anyway, that’s what he’d said. And with the proper bluster and a faked call on his cell, he’d gotten admittance to the back room.

Faith had elected to wait outside. He couldn’t blame her. If he had powers, he would be pretty hesitant to approach anything that took them. “So, I think we’re all done here.” He gave them another reassuring smile and allowed them to usher him back out. Somewhere along the line they offered him free pizza for his “partner” and also babbled about how they thought the two of them were dating. He made all the appropriate noises and expressions, though he did kind of falter when they mentioned that they thought he and Faith were dating.

Yeah, he was confused too.

But he laughed it off, claimed that they got that all the time, shot the shit with them for a few minutes and then got the hell out of there. Once he was out, he meandered over to face, grinning smugly and waggling the box at her. “Told you that would work,” he said, in a playful sing-song.

Faith wouldn't have admitted it, but as Pike went inside, she grew nervous. As she leaned against the side of the building, eying people and cars alike as they passed, she chain-smoked her way through a third of a pack. As she tossed another butt to the ground and smashed the end under the heel of her boot, he stepped out.

"'Bout damn time." She was relieved to see him, and showed it only by giving him a quick, bruising punch in the arm. "Yeah, now we probably can't go back in there, huh?" Which might actually be good, because she'd given the address out to a couple of people. She didn't want to be found easily by B or any of them goody-goody-let's-worry-about-the-world scouts.

Her chocolate gaze eyed the box he shook at her warily. "Sure it's safe in there? And you got both kinds, right?"

Pike snorted and shook his head. "You kidding me? They offered us free pizza for not calling 'our superiors'. We're like tiny gods to them right now," he laughed, leaning against the wall on his shoulder next to her. "Probably oughta cut back on going there, in case they ever realize they should've asked for badges, but we don't have to cut ties to the place completely."

There was also getting fake badges, but Pike wasn't entirely sure how to go about that without connections. Most of the ones he had back home he'd made through demon hunting, and here he didn't have those. He'd look into it in case things like this started becoming more common, but right now it wasn't the biggest priority.

"Hey, I've seen the movies," he chuckled. "Lead box stops it from being a threat. I don't get it either. Guess that's one of those weird things that come with being a chunk of an alien planet." Right about there, the absurdity of this situation finally hit him, and his eyes lit up. "Holy shit," he laughed, shaking his head. "An alien planet. We just recovered chunks of an alien planet from the backroom of a pizza place. Even for a demon hunter, that's the kind of thing that would get people wondering if I was high."

He sat there chuckling at the box for a second, shaking his head. "So, ready to go give this stuff to Superman so he can destroy it?" He wasn't even trying to hide how hilariously absurd he thought this was. One thing he didn't mention was Clark's plan for John. He wasn't sure if Clark had told her about it, and since she and John had been making nice he didn't want to tip her off to it.

Pike was pretty good at hiding his emotions, which was a very good thing right now. He'd never said anything to Faith about John. He'd never even indicated that he'd seen their very public conversations. But he had. He'd also seen John blithely talking about beating the crap out of perps, ignoring rights, and altogether acting like the worst kind of corrupt pig. It was safe to say Pike wasn't thrilled about this friendship thing the two of them had going.

But he also knew Faith would kick his ass if he said anything. So he kept it to himself. But if the guy did try to hurt her? Pike was fully prepared to put a few .50 caliber rounds into the guy. Nonlethal of course, he didn't want to kill a guy that wasn't in his right mind. But a few nonvital areas? Shoulder, leg, maybe an arm? He wouldn't feel guilty about that, not if the guy was trying to hurt Faith.

Pike told himself that was just because he was trying to help her. He told himself that it was because the job had taken little bits of him for years. He told himself that it had nothing to do with feelings or attachments of any kind.

It was a telling thing that he couldn't quite convince himself.

"Really. I can work with that." Though she was uncomfortable with the idea of someone considering her a god of any kind, unless, you know, they didn't expect her to do anything. "Right. Saw a chinese place a couple blocks over, we could try it." Though she loved

"Movies? Oh, yeah, the one with the guy in tights." She hadn't gotten much of a chance to watch movies while growing up, but she'd caught bits and pieces over the years. Though anything in the past decade, she hadn't seen.

She smirked at mention of Superman. "Still hard to believe. But yeah, I guess we should turn it in." Though she was tempted to keep a chunk of it to use on B. She wondered how difficult it might be to get a piece of the stuff and hang onto it.

"Or you should. Doubt any of them wanna see me." She gave a small shrug. She tried not to think about the conversation she'd had with that Clark guy. Superman, if all this was really for real-which it was, apparently.

"Chinese works," he agreed. "We could also try the burger joint up the street if the Chinese gets old." One good thing about staying in a motel near a busy part of the city was the proximity of food places. There were also bars, which was a vice he was trying to avoid giving into too much at the moment. Maybe he subconsciously knew getting so drunk he started spewing off at the mouth was a bad idea, especially considering one of the things he could spew involved knowing Buffy. Yeah, bleeding and in pain was the best way to wake up from a night of drinking. Not.

"Yeah, that'd be the one." He never thought he'd be looking to movies for actual survival skills, but apparently they were a good primer for containing radioactive alien rocks. He made a mental note to rewatch a couple movies, just in case their subjects showed up. The Terminator movies, Predator, and the Alien films. Sure, it was probably paranoid, but he wanted to be ready just in case.

He really didn't disagree with her about how hard this was to believe. But he'd seen the kryptonite. Even a master of rationalization and logic would be hard pressed to disbelieve kryptonite in the flesh.

That got his attention. One eyebrow rose as he considered what she'd just said. "Why wouldn't they want to see you?" He thought about it a little more, and added, "And if they make an issue out of it, they can tell it to my upraised middle finger. We both figured out where it was, we both have every right to be there when it gets turned in." Flipping off Superman. The surreality would never cease. Not that he really thought he'd have to flip anybody off. Of all people, Clark seemed least likely to be hostile towards them. Then again, Pike only really knew him from the Superman stuff he'd seen.

"Couple bars, too." Faith spoke up absently, glancing down at the box again. Despite the fact that it seemed to be working, she still didn't like being this close to something that could make her powerless just by being near her.

Why wouldn't they want to see her? She glanced over at him as he said they should both head over there. "I doubt I'm anyone's favorite person right now." She gave a shrug, then pushed off the wall and began heading down the street. "C'mon." She'd at least walk part of the way with him, though she wasn't completely sure where the apartment complex was.

That's not really something that B - or any of the others - were sharing with her.

He chuckled and nodded his head at her noticing the bars, but he didn't say anything. He had a feeling she knew he knew where they were, considering his state when they'd first met. He still sort of regretted being drunk that night. It was a terrible way to handle the first night here.

He noticed the look she gave the box, so as he pushed off the wall, he switched it to his other hand, the one farther away from her. He also tucked it up against his side, which succeeded in partially hiding it from view. He couldn't even imagine what it was like for her to lose her powers. When he'd lost whatever it was the kryptonite gave him, that was fine, because they'd just been neat little enhancements. For a Slayer, it had to be different, and unpleasant.

Something caught his attention as they began their walk. He kept any indication of it from his face, but he did divert a little of his attention toward paying attention to what was going on behind them. "Hey, you got at least one person in your corner, y'know." He gave her a smile.

The smile slowly faded, however, as he became more and more sure of something. When they started up their walk, he thought he'd heard another set of footsteps start up close behind them. It wasn't that there weren't other people walking at the same time, but walking at exactly the same pace and pattern? That was the sign of someone trying to mask the sound of their footfalls. He still wasn't entirely sure, but he was sure enough to test it.

He stopped abruptly, just for a second. "Oh crap, I think I forgot something." He patted his pockets and sighed theatrically. "Crap." Sure enough, the footsteps faltered. The good thing about being with a buddy? This particular test always confused someone trying to follow you. They had to decide pretty quickly whether to stop or continue, and nine times out of ten that screwed up their routine. Pike almost immediately started walking again, catching up to her quickly. He didn't waste any time. The problem with this particular test? If the follower didn't buy the cover for stopping, things could escalate quickly.

"We're being followed," he told her in a stage whisper.

Faith had caught the feeling of wrongness just before they had started walking, and it comforted her a little. Some things never changed, at least. Her instincts were still solid.

When he smiled at her, she hesitated, but couldn't help but smile back a little. "Yeah, I guess." She gave a half shrug, which gave her the chance to loosen her clothes just a little. She could practically taste the fact that a fight was imminent, and she welcomed it. Silently she counted the footsteps to see how far they might be behind them.

When Pike stopped, she looked over at him. Did he know, too? That was when he moved back up beside her and whispered. She gave him a strange look. "Yeah, I know." Then she grinned. "Lookin' forward to 'em catching up." The two of them turned a corner, and she ducked into a dark store window, pulling him with her. Now, at least, they'd have the advantage of an ambush.

Her eyes focused on the direction they had just come from, she crouched and retrieved her knew knife from inside her boot, then straightened again, more than ready.

Pike liked it when he could get Faith to smile. Not a false smile, not a leer or a smirk or a grin, but a genuine smile. It was rare, but on those rare occasions it happened, it lit up her face in a way that he couldn't help but enjoy. Even now, with danger almost literally breathing down their necks, he could take a small little pleasure in that smile.

She knew? She could have heard it, same as he did. But he knew his luck wasn't that good. Chances were this wasn't just a simple mugger. Great. That he could've handled. There was a pretty simple way to deal with a mugger, and it usually involved showing off a part of that cannon he carried around. If it was a demon, that wasn't really an option.

He noticed the knife. If they'd been back home? He'd have grinned very big at the sight of it, because demons back home could be sliced and diced and hey, it was kind of fun. But here, they were hiding behind innocent meatsuits. Cheating, in his book. Still, it meant the knife wasn't really an option. And not just for moral reasons. "Faith," he said gently. He didn't want to sound like he was trying to correct her, because that wasn't what he was trying to do. Nor would he try to go the morality route. "Remember what I said about demons here. The body is just a host. All killing the host will do is leave the demon free to jump into the nearest new body...which means you or me." And he had a feeling that if the demon even had an inkling of who Faith was, it would go right for her once it was free of its current host. And Pike couldn't kill Faith. Not even if a demon was driving her around, even if that demon's first act was to try and kill him.

When she glanced at him as he said her name, her eyes had already changed. Faith was all Slayer, right now. She couldn’t help it – it was the essence taking over, as it so often did. The difference between Faith and Buffy was that Faith wasn’t as good at reigning it in. She didn’t think herself strong enough.  Instead, she just gave into it.

His words sank in slowly, and her eyes narrowed, before she finally knelt and slipped the knife back into her boot. “Fine. Then we’ll do this the old-fashioned way.” A dark grin slid onto her lips, before she stepped out in front of a very surprised-looking businessman.

“Hey buddy, got a light?” The guy stood there for a moment, when Faith dug her lighter out and held it up. “Never mind. Found it.” As she’d known would happen, his eyes inadvertently shifted to the hand holding the lighter, giving her the chance to ball her right fist and punch the guy straight in the jaw, sending him to the ground. “And here I thought these guys were tougher than that.”

He'd been looking at her when she glanced at him. It had been a long, long time since he'd seen a Slayer in battle mode, and even when he had, he'd been looking at Buffy. Sure, there were similarities, but Faith seemed to feel the Slayer thing far more intensely. Pike didn't necessarily disagree with that, but it was definitely something that would scare folks that weren't used to staring down scary things.

He was very glad she'd listened to him on this one. He really wasn't sure what he would have done if she hadn't. His nightmare scenario was Faith getting possessed before he knew how to shove the demon right back out. Him getting possessed didn't seem to enter into this scenario, but then his personal well-being rarely did. He made a mental note to question someone, he didn't much care who, about the exorcism. He had a passable knowledge of Latin, after all. Typically when people wanted to sound big and bad and ominous, they whipped out the Latin. It also helped if he had to consult books in older languages, since a lot of languages had at least some basis in or similarities to Latin.

He watched as she used the old misdirection trick. He didn't smirk, though. This was too easy. Way too easy. "They are," Pike replied, stalking out of the shadow of the window. "He's faking." He didn't bother going for his gun. What fear would a possessing entity have of a gun? Pike really wished he'd taken the time to get that exorcism thing down. Now would have been a fantastic time to start throwing around the Latin.

He kept a little distance between him and Faith. You don't crowd a Slayer in a fight. But he also wasn't too far. There was a couple of feet between them, which he felt was a comfortable distance. He didn't want to get too far back, though. This thing was playing possum, and he had no idea when it would leap up. Pike was paying particular attention to its hands. If he'd been possessing some shmuck and just walked into an ambush, he'd have done the very same thing, all the while slowly going for a weapon. He wasn't going to let them be caught unawares if, or very possibly when, that happened.

"Faking?" Her eyes flickered away from the possessed man for a moment. Not even that, really, an instant. That was all it took. Faster than she would have believed, the demon spring to his feet and rushed her, tackling her back into the storefront. Glass cracked behind her back as she grunted, but she ignored the pain. Her hand lifted and she punched him in the nose. His head snapped back but he didn't move otherwise.

Since that failed, the Slayer fell back on the next best option. Her knee raised and jammed into his crotch, giving her the chance to then shove him back. That's when she saw him draw a knife. Inwardly cursing the fact that she'd out her own away, she ducked the first slash, spinning away from the man.

Stupid, Pike scolded himself harshly. Don't be a distraction. You'll get her killed. Just like Vegas. Just like Buffy. And surprisingly, his feelings when he thought of Faith dying weren't all that different than what his feelings were when he thought of Buffy dying back then. Stow it. Not the time.

For a moment he felt useless. Then he remembered two things: One, he had no problem with dirty fighting. And two? He might not have been able to shoot the son of a bitch, but he could still pistol whip the fuck out of him.

He watched Faith fight, impressed with how graceful she was. Sure, he'd seen Buffy fight before, but that didn't lessen how incredible it looked now. He watched for an opening, slowly circling around behind the demon, and when she spun away from the demon's slash, he saw one. He knew the demon was focused on Faith, so he darted in, bringing one heavy motorcycle boot right into collision with the body's kibbles-n-bits. He knew demons had to feel, at least physically, what their hosts felt, otherwise walking would be incredibly interesting.

He was right.

The demon was an alto, at least when he screamed. Meanwhile, Pike was already following Rule #1 of fighting something with superstrength when you didn't have superabilities: Get The Fuck Out Of The Way. By the time the demon was bringing the knife around, Pike was already about three steps to the right, so all the demon got for his trouble was a pistol whip to the side of the head from a heavy revolver for his trouble.

And just like that Pike was dancing back out of arms reach. He knew his limits. Besides, he still had the box. The demon getting hold of the blue kryptonite would have been very bad, especially since he wasn't really sure if it worked on demons. But he knew it worked on Faith.

On the upside, the demon was turning toward him, clearly pissed that he'd just been kicked in the balls and knocked in the head. Left it wide open for Faith. Distracting the demon, on the other hand...

The instant the demon turned towards Pike, Faith moved in from behind and wrapped an arm around its neck, squeezing tightly. She held it in place and drove a knee into the demon's back, then threw it to the ground while following with a swift kick to the stomach. The demon rolled out of her reach within moments, then turned towards Pike again, who was closer now. With its quick reflexes, the demon lifted the knife it carried and drove it into Pike's side, twisting as he did so.

"No!" Faith practically screamed the word as she rushed in and grabbed the demon by the back of its jacket. She noted a mack truck heading down the street, and without thinking she threw the guy into the street. The instant she heard the truck hit, she turned back to Pike to see if he was okay...or even alive.

Oh, Pike was alive. The waves of pain assaulting him dispelled any illusion to the contrary. For a second it could have seemed like he was dead, as he stumbled backwards and slumped against the wall, but when he didn't fall or slide down it, that was proved false. Somehow his legs didn't buckle on him. He was voting on sheer karmic payoff. He must have been a saint in a previous life, or something.

One hand clutched the hilt of the knife, still sticking in him, while the other loosely circled where the blade had been driven in. Driven in all the way up to the hilt. He gulped, trying to think through the pain. Faith. Was she okay? For some reason this seemed important to him, important enough that a knife sticking in him ranked as a second priority. He looked up and smiled a little when he saw she was okay.

He focused through the pain. This wasn't the first time he'd been stabbed. He had the big scar on his shoulder to prove that. This was the closest stab wound to anything vital, and the white hot pain that was searing the nerves of his right side told him this was a fairly bad one, but somehow he still managed a weak joke. "I think this means I get to keep it," he said. He tried to chuckle, but it pulled at the wound and he winced. "It's in the rules."

The blood wasn't too bad. But that was only because the knife was still in him. The instant this thing was yanked out? It was going to look like the aftermath of a slasher flick. He blinked hard, trying to focus through the haze of pain. "You okay?" Yes, that made total sense. He was standing there with a knife buried deep in his right side, and he wanted to know if she was okay. Never let it be said that Pike didn't have his priorities.

Seeing the blade sticking out of him gave her a bad moment. Had it been in front instead of the side, she might not have been able to handle sticking around. This looked a lot like when B had stuck her own dagger in her. She fought back the panic, then moved closer and grabbed him under the shoulders. "Yeah, yeah, you can keep it."

He wanted to know if she was okay? Pike must've been crazier than she is. "Yeah, I'm fine. We gotta get you outta here, back to the hotel." A hospital didn't even filter into her thoughts. She slung an arm around him, then grabbed his left arm and pulled it over her shoulder so he'd be leaning against her.

At least the hotel was close. "Only got a block to go. Can you make it?" He better make it.

Pike winced slightly as he was maneuvered, but did his best to help her by bracing his admittedly weakening legs. Once she had him he let them relax a little, although he did have to focus to keep them from shaking. Still, they worked, that was a good sign.

He smiled at her when she said she was okay. "Good. Did what I wanted it too, then." The thing had been fast. Maybe too fast. He hadn't been willing to just sit it out and watch and hope he was wrong. It was stupid, but he didn't regret it. Not one tiny little bit, not even with all that pain threatening to make him throw up because wow, did it ever hurt.

He nodded, but didn't start trying to move. A thought cut through the pain and he sighed in frustration. "Crap. We gotta take it out. If somebody sees it sticking in me on the way back they'll call the cops, and we don't need that kind of heat." Of course taking it out meant that he was going to lose blood. A lot of blood. But he knew she was right, the hotel was close. If they were fast, he wouldn't lose enough blood to kill him.

He didn't comment on her kicking the demon in front of the truck. Neither of them knew how to get the thing out of the poor bastard it was possessing, and neither of them knew the trap. It was the only way they were going to get away. As horrible as it was, he'd have done the same thing.

She growled, then shifted him back against the wall. Faith stripped off her jacket and balled it up. "Here." She handed it to him. "Get ready to press it against the hole, kay?"

She waited for his nod, then took a deep breath. Gripping the knife, she looked up into his eyes. "On the count of three. One." Before she even got to two, she yanked the knife out, inwardly wincing as she saw how much blood covered the blade. Hopefully nothing vital had been hit. She could stitch up the wound, but not the organs inside.

While he held her jacket in place, she stuck the knife in her boot that did not have her own. She then pulled his arm back over her shoulder, and guided him off the wall. Her right hand slid around him to press over his hand and the jacket, trying to keep him from bleeding too much.

"Let's go." And she started to head down the street carefully with him.

Pike knew what was going to happen here from painful experience, so he took her jacket with a nod of thanks and moved his hand into position. Oh yeah, this is gonna suck. He forced his breathing to remain normal, as any harder breathing pulled at the wound and sent new lances of pain through his side.

True to his prediction, it did suck, but he didn't yelp, or scream. He just clenched his jaw tight and screwed his eyes shut, and even that only lasted for a moment. He'd developed a pretty decent threshold for pain over the years. He noticed how utterly covered the blade was, but put it from his mind quickly. He didn't need nightmare scenarios right now.

Faith's presence was reassuring, and her hand over his was actually pretty comforting. When she gave the word, he bobbed his head in a little nod and began doing his level best to walk. His legs were a little shaky, and he couldn't quite keep them from shaking anymore, but he was still lucid. That was a good sign.

It probably wasn't quite as good a sign that his shirt was starting to darken considerably around the wound, but he tried to pretend he didn't notice that.

Thankfully, the street stayed empty between the site of their fight and the motel. It took her twice as long as she would've liked to get there with him, and when they finally did, she fumbled with the keys until she got the door open. Helping Pike in, she maneuvered him to the bed and helped him lay down, then grabbed the first aid kit they hadn't bothered to take back to the owner yet.

Her fingers were slippery with his blood as she pulled out bandages, kneeling next to him on the bed. "Aight, lift it up." She didn't like the amount of blood that was still coming out, and she pressed a clean cloth to it, hoping to stop the bleeding soon. A huge part of her wanted to run, just take off, but she forced herself to take care of his wound instead.

Pike dutifully stumbled along beside her, though he wasn't liking how much he had to focus to keep his legs at the wobbly stage rather than the limp stage. He also didn't like how dizzy he was feeling. Fucking gypsy hexes, all working in other universes. Universi. Is there a plural of universe?

His vision blurred for a second, and he had to blink hard to bring it back into clarity. When he opened his eyes, he was on the bed, and Faith was kneeling next to him with bandages. He nodded, his head bobbing maybe a little too much, and then lifted his shirt, wincing as he peeled it away from the wound. It was bleeding profusely, but nothing was erupting like a fountain, which he hoped meant that no vitals had been hit.

All of a sudden it became really important for him to say something. Unfortunately there was this pesky fuzz in his mind that was keeping him from figuring out just what it was. So he just furrowed his brow and started trying to cut through the fuzz.

Faith hated the fact that she had to keep putting bandages over the wound. She pressed hard with the third one in less than five minutes, hoping to finally stop the bleeding. It had lessened, after all. Since it didn't seem like it was seeping through very heavily, she reached for some gauze and began to wrap it around his abdomen, having to reach under and over him to get it in place. "You better not fucking move." She muttered absently. Once it was finally wrapped, she sat up and wiped some sweat off her forehead, not noticing that she smeared some of his blood on her face.

"You're a fuckin' idiot, Pike. You shoulda just ran when that asshole showed up, you know that?" She was angry, but not so much at him. More at herself for him getting hurt.

While she piled bandages onto his wound, he focused on what he wanted to say. He was racing the blood loss, trying to break through the ever-increasing haze of dizziness to get at the coherent thought that was trying to get out.

Thoughts, actually. Two thoughts, one of them dancing at the tips of his mental fingers now. It was around the second bandage that he muttered about getting the rocks to Clark, that it was important. Even though it wasn't registering as the more important of the two thoughts, actually. Mentally shrugging, he sharpened his focus as much as he could.

Then Faith was saying something, and he listened intently. And there it was! His face split in a goofy grin as he realized what the other coherent thought was. "Nuh-uh. He was fast. And dangerous, sure, but even for Slayers!" He wasn't really yelling, but he was getting excited, because he knew what he wanted to say. He was also paler than he should've been and probably a hairsbreadth away from passing out. But he wasn't going down, not until he got out what he wanted to say.

He reached out and put his hand on her shoulder, wanting to draw her attention up to his eyes. He didn't want her to doubt his sincerity when he said it. It made sense in his head. "You're worth it, Faith," he told her, a genuine, broad smile on his face. He held her gaze for just a second longer before finally passing out, flopping back onto the bed.

She heard what he said about the rocks, and cursed quietly. Damn things were the reason all this had happened. When Pike spoke up, she looked over at him, meeting his eyes inadvertantly when his hand rested on her shoulder. "What?" His words made her freeze in sudden terror.

She stared at him even as he passed out, letting out a breath of relief when he did. Thank god she didn't have to deal with something like that right now. Standing, she backed away from the bed to the opposite wall, and leaned against it for a long moment. She ran her hands-bloody though they were-through her hair, trying to get him out of her thoughts.

Clark. The kryptonite. Faith shook herself, then walked back to Pike and fumbled his phone out of his jacket pocket. She sent off a message to Clark, then pulled a blanket over Pike to keep him warm.

Dropping the phone onto the bed, she pulled out her cigarettes, set the box of rocks by the door, and leaned against it to wait for an answer.
