======================

Cole Turner didn't think he could be any less confused than when he first showed up. Just before the arrival, he had just aided Leo in saving Piper and fully intended on returning to Phoebe for what he hoped could be a good night out, maybe with steak and a fine wine. But it didn't seem such was possible now, if the current Halliwell's reactions were of any indication. He still couldn't fathom himself turning into The Source, which was usually done by ceremony, and there were names in line of succession.. which he definitely wasn't on, considering he was marked for death by the highest order of them. Plus he was only a hybrid, demon and human. None had been candidates before. There was a possible way around it, however. Any demon who killed one or all of the Charmed Ones could probably be assured the next in line after the previous Source's demise. Which was just as unlikely in his case since he'd never turn against them. And yet both those here had insisted he was still evil. Though.. that wasn't completely unforeseen, most of the sisters had not accepted him before either. They wouldn't seem likely to now as well, or anytime soon, if at all. He thought about it for a while and decided that it didn't matter if he was liked by them, his only concern was that it didn't turn into a vanquish first, ask later type of situation. He could help anyone else that wished it. Unlike their own world, there was a lot of other people around in the same boat as him, stuck in a war against total evil and chaos. Plus the only one of them whose opinion he would really value was Phoebe and she wasn't here. The others.. well, he had been a lawyer, so he wouldn't accept much claims completely, not without some sort of evidence.

But what if she was here, and held the same tune? He wasn't prepared for that. They were still together last he remembered. But the tone and feeling he was getting so far was that it changed in a huge way. As if she had moved on after he died however they thought he did. Such a scenario was impossible in his eyes. The alternative that it was true could be overwhelming for him, and for any man. So, he had chosen to suppress his feelings on that matter, along with all the possibilities on the negative side to it. He still couldn't accept that he became The Source. And he wouldn't. Cole at this point could never imagine himself setting out to become that level of evil, no matter how much they insisted he would do so. Unless there was some other way he had yet to figure out, but so far he had none. He did think it was wrong to judge based on actions yet to come and he suspected that maybe other people would think so as well. He agreed that he wouldn't be having anything to do with either Halliwell. And if Phoebe popped up later on and said the same and.. no. He wouldn't think on that at all now. He had agreed to keep his distance from them. It was clear they wouldn't want his advice or help even if he was proved to be not-yet-evil. He probably wouldn't be inclined to offer anyway after such a cold reception.. which he could understand if they were even a little right about his future, but at least someone else was giving him a chance. Keeping distance as per the agreement would not be so difficult since his teleportation power could take him anywhere in the world. If others wanted something, he was just a shimmer away from getting to them. But first he needed to prove himself to be a good demon, not merely for Prue or Mel, but so everyone could see he isn't a threat. Good demon. Now that was probably considered a contradiction of terms to most, but it was the truth.

He had spent the majority of the couple days securing his room at the motel and keeping it secure from threats, reading through books from the library, watching TV and movies, and going over the message forums. It wasn't long before Cole had gotten a message from Ruby about meeting up. He had previously thought she would come to him, or at least arrange a public area. But it turned out to be the Winchester residence. The convo also listed the address. Cole had looked it up on Google maps, going over the directions, images of the streets, such things of that nature. It was right on the outskirts of Lawrence. He immediately sent a message back that he would be at the door in a few minutes and to look out the window for him. So, this was it. He wasn't completely certain what the discussion would involve. Probably a series of questions about himself, his intentions, maybe also about demons and the like of his world. He didn't know how his innocence here would be proved or how Ruby would arrange such a thing, or what methods would be used to know the truth. Regardless of how it would be, he would hide nothing and freely give the information. This one was giving a chance so he'd be all about full disclosure. In no way did he intend on messing this up.

So right after sending it, he did a few last minute checks. Basic stuff. Pocketing his room keys. Making sure he had his wallet containing ID and cash. Shutting off the lights, TV, and other outlets. So now looking at his new phone to see the address, he focused his intent to go there, thinking of the place.. and then his body shimmered until he completely vanished from the room. A minute or so later, his form appeared the same way he left and he found himself at the front yard, just a few paces from the porch. It was quite a large house. It looked great too. He noticed the large barn/garage structure to the side. Grass was nicely green. But the house.. that had his intention. Taking a breath, he then made his way up the steps of the porch and stood in front of the door. He gave a couple knocks and then waited for it to be opened. If it looked this nice outside, he could only imagine the interior. But as of now, he was mostly focused on their talk and proving the truth, to show that this chance would not be wasted in any way.

Didn't take the guy long to show. That was part of the powers of demons from his world too then. Little easier for them obviously, he'd gotten to her property and gotten inside so that was all she needed to know he was at least on the level regarding her and her family. So he wasn't evil. Wasn't a danger and at least in terms of the general populace, she trusted Cole Turner. He'd proved his intentions just by being able to arrive. Ruby stood up, wincing slightly as her body adapted to the new position. Emily had decided to bother Mom today, which was awesome and Ruby loved but moving was effort. Stupid effort. She should have made Sam do it. Sam who wanted to take her on holiday and away from the day to day of this place.

Just exactly what she didn't want now she knew the future. She'd stay here where no one could hurt them. Literally. And for as long as she needed to after her daughter was born. Their little Emily.

She finally made it to the door and came face to face with the demon lawyer from Mel's world. Which she had to admit was still kind of hilarious as professions went. More demons should be lawyers, maybe she could get into the law. She was good at the nitty gritty details. Crowley always said so. But right now she was focusing on Cole. She'd made her initial assessment too. "You're on the level Cole, what I didn't tell you before you came here, no one with any intent to harm me or my family and nothing evil can come on this property. They'll bounce back. Now that doesn't mean the Halliwell's worries are unfounded but you're not evil. So come right on in. Can I get you a drink?"

Ruby wasn't really starting to show yet. She was wearing a long slightly baggy top and still looked more or less herself, she was only hitting four months anyway. If even that, and had been told everything was going fine so far. It was something.

"We pretty much have most things, any preferences?"

Cole had not even contemplated the thought of wards or barriers against evil, or against anyone who'd even intend harm upon the place. He was of a sort who could theorize any type of scenario and prepare for it. But this was one that he didn't, until now. But it was a nice counter for any threats. If he was evil, or The Source, or even planning to do something, then he would have been repelled immediately. The fact that she had not told him beforehand was also resourceful and smart in this case, he respected that as well. So.. that was the test? Or just one of them? He thought it was a great one. Himself being able to arrive and walk right in after invitation would hopefully be enough for Prue. And Mel. He slightly doubted it would, on a personal level, but at least this was concrete proof that he wasn't evil. As to personal matters and claims about what he'd do later, things which he still had trouble believing would happen.. well, he didn't feel he could do anything about that in this current situation. Maybe if he could take the knowledge with him if he was sent back, though he doubted that. All he could do right now was continue to be good and fight the darkness. Not just for Phoebe's sake, but also to help the other people brought here as well.

He nodded at the invitation and then stepped inside once allowed, glancing at the interior. He thought it looked even better on the inside. If he were to have a house, hopefully it would be similar to this. Though he did usually live in the middle of the city before. "Ohh.. I see. It's a good tactic. Definitely don't plan on hurting you or anyone here. Physically, mentally, supernaturally, or even being sued in court." That last part was said in jest, implied in his light vocal tone of it. He did wonder if that was the only test needed. He assumed as much and would be happy with it. But if Ruby wished further evidence or to ask more questions about himself and his worried, he'd be very open with his answers. Cole had to admit he was also curious about the this world's demons, to know how to deal with them if he had to. From how people talked on the boards, this was clearly the middle of a war.

He paused upon being asked about drinks. Come to think of it, he was a bit thirsty for something since his lunch earlier in the day. "Well, I do like wine at times, older the better. But I usually have those with steaks when I eat out with friends. So maybe for now.. any juice? Maybe apple, with a bit of grape or orange mixed in."

Ruby could of course sense demon in the guy. He was what he was and she knew well, even if it was a different worlds hell. But there was nothing evil there, nothing of ill intent and that was enough for her. Even if he was a lawyer. The demon lawyer thing would have made Lindsey laugh had he still being around. But the guy seemed alright to her, there was nothing she could tell, though she'd do the usual tests, holy water, making him hold something silver. He'd already walked over a hidden trap so he wasn't possessed. Even if he could be which she wasn't sure about.

"I can go for juice. I have cran-apple and some summer fruit thing or other my husband likes, I think its mostly red berries, and there's probably some orange somewhere around." she told him. Her hand rested on her hip as she walked betraying just a hint of stretching where the bump that was Emily was growing.

"Now I don't know why the Halliwell's have issue with you beyond the little I heard about you and Phoebe and your future, but that's not you. I'd know if you had some ultimate evil in you and you don't seem to, so, you get judged by me on what you do from now on. Frankly given what I am and what I wanted to do before I really knew Sam, hating you for your past would be more than a little hypocritical, and you're doing well, you really are. Getting into my house is step one. And hey, who knows, I could use a lawyer someday."

She beckoned him to join her in the kitchen as she got out the juice. "So how about we start and you tell me a little something about yourself so I know the man behind the stories. Good a place as any don't you think?"

"Great, orange is good," he said with a nod as he felt a little more comfortable. Not completely yet, but it was a start. He listened as he mentioned the Halliwells. Would they still hate him anyway, despite being not evil? Good question. He had a feeling that they might be a little bit disappointed, since that'd mean no vanquishing, and that he had told the truth ever since the start of his arrival. "Maybe it's personal, I don't know. I just don't get the hate. Especially since if they know I'm from before all that madness, they have little right to be against me. Though they may anyway, regardless. But.. well, it's enough on this side of it, just so they know I'm passing the testing." He laughed when she mentioned needing a lawyer, curious if it were serious or at least partially in jest. Cole had paused, then followed her as she traveled to the kitchen. He was a little curious if he had sort of passed other tests without knowing it. He'd go through any of them, whether he knew of them or not.

"Okay.. a story, I can do that. He stood in the doorway of the kitchen, observing as she did things. "My father was a statesman. Mother was a full demon. I was born in 1885; let's just say our kind ages slowly physically if not at all. After she killed my dad, she raised me in the Underworld. I was raised to hate my human half. And I did, for so long. Oh, I should mention. Full demons? Don't trust them. They've all been evil and destructive, amoral, dark. Unless they never killed ever, making it a special case. But on the whole, evil. It's us half ones that have a chance. The full-on demons don't have emotions. Not the good kind, no love.. closest is lust, at best. Being happy, mostly only when doing evil things, and anger at failing. So.. half demons like me, we could go evil, most do. But there's also a chance we can reject the bad stuff. But they like us because we can get a foot hold in the mortal world, with business and politics. They had put me through law school. Turns out I excelled at it, and had eventually worked as an Assistant D.A."

Cole stopped when he saw the glass of juice, nodding in thanks as he took a drink from it when offered. "There's a hierarchy down there too. Ranks, levels, chains of command, etc. The Source is at the top, below that is the Triad, and then more superiors, all the way down to the scumbags. And.. warlocks, which is a different race altogether, like evil witches, but they're considered second class citizens. And for demons, while there is a sense of order? Also chaos. It's instinct to outdo another, to get to the top by elimination. In this case it can be literal." He stopped then, not wanting to overload Ruby with too much information to process. Not that he wouldn't go on. If she wanted more, but Cole thought he'd wait to hear her feedback on what he had relayed so far. He wondered if the demons here were anything like what he knew of in his universe. He took another sip of his juice and added, "Is it like that for your kind? I've been wondering if the abilities are the same too. Ours also has certain abilities, depending on rank. Or you buy them.. we have brokers who sell powers if you have something to wager for it. Very secret. "

Ruby went for Cran-apple herself and put the cartons back as she listened to Cole's story. Human father, Demon mother. Full demon, however that worked. Hundred years, yeah that was young for a demon here, but as he said, half and half. And the emotion thing. Well she knew that better than most, though demons here were capable of the good emotions they just tended to have been tortured out of them over the centuries. They were from Ruby but Sam managed to grab a shred of something good and find a person. It was so important. And it seemed to be what Phoebe Halliwell had done for Cole. Half and half, now that was something they didn't have. Unless one counted the baby she carried. Demons by their nature were human souls twisted and turned bad. There were no pure demons as he spoke of them. "It's different here I guess, we're His Creation. Lucifer's I mean, he made us as a mockery of humanity. Twisted and turned, the first of us, her name was Lilith and she was tempted by Lucifer personally. Her soul burned out of all recognition, and that's what we are. Just...broken souls. Some people say like ghosts only spun round hell for a few centuries on top."

She felt bad for the guy already, life really had just kicked him in the teeth from day one. It was likely he'd never been given a chance to be anything other than evil. Anything other than giving into his demon side. And clearly Law School hadn't helped. What was it, you sold your soul Junior year? Cole's had gone into service long before that. "Do you remember him? Your father I mean, do you have any good memories of the guy or is it all hell, or, what do you call it, the Underworld?" To Ruby it was the same thing, the same evil given a new title. The Source was their Lucifer, the Triad, all of it, it wasn't so different. Not really.

"Sounds like here, though you're very different in terms of what you are specifically, we don't have half and half here, we're the soul, the body is just a thing we possess. We get their memories, their knowledge, all of it. And that's how we interact up here, usually, I mean I don't anymore, this girl was dead as I took her so...call me the exception." She wouldn't tell him why just yet, that was a story for another time. They had a lot to get through, a whole lot of information to share on just what they were, and while she was getting a read on the guy she wanted a bit more time around him till she was sure he was on the level. "As for the structure, yeah that's pretty much it, we have a couple of kinds of demons with powers slightly tailored but the ranks, the powers being different for the more powerful, and the outdoing each other for a chance to hit that next rung on the ladder, that's all true of us too."

"Tell me about your abilities and we can work from there, but again, I'm not like most demons. I made a wish a while back to negate a lot of the weaknesses of my kind, but also I'm a Witch, have been since I was mortal, That by the way, 14th Century. 13...40 something, or 50, I don't know specifics. We tend to start out having hit at least 100 downstairs." she added before waiting to find out more from his side.

"Oh, I'm sorry. Broken souls? I can't even fathom doing something like that, even as a Source. So it's not like a whole different race, but.. humans first. Who were changed." Cole had a look of concern on his face, hearing about how these demons here were made. Once human. Twisted in the land below, in Hell, humanity taken from them. It was a horrible thought. To have any human become something dark and monstrous. He had something close to that. But while his humanity was never corrupted or taken, mostly just.. repressed under everything else. But Ruby seemed to be proof for hope. She was good now, right? Of course. So that at least was good. To see that someone who would normally be dark and yet using what they know to help people for good reasons. Probably also seen as a traitor. Now that, he could relate to. He was marked for death and so many demonic bounty hunters had continuously searched for him. "And the bodies you have now are just human hosts? I guess a vanquish is definitely out of the question, then." That would make things a challenge. It was easier in his world. Just toss an angry fireball or globe of electrical energy, and poof. Scorch mark. For the lesser demons and those of his rank anyway, the others took more than one.

But in this place? There was probably other ways to get the demons out and away from hurting everyone else again. He'd have to learn all that soon enough. He paused at the question about his father. His memory was extremely faint of him, only a glimpse here and there.. mostly nonexistent. "I don't really remember much. I think I was around two or three when he learned of my mother. Then she killed him and took me with her. But afterward, his soul was held in this crystal sphere. The Source used it as a bargaining chip. He kept it, using it if I ever decided to give in to my human side. When given my task to kill the sisters, the soul was promised to me. But when I failed to kill them.. failing, in this case, meaning I fell in love and just refused, the soul was given to my boss Raynor so he could use it in his own schemes to control me. When a witch died due to his influence and an evil spell, he gave it.. and I ended him. As to my father.. I just set him free. It was the right and only thing for me to do."

He was curious about the powers side of things as well. And they seemed to be a dog eat dog type mentality as his could be, in this case dog being demons. And now she was asking about abilities. "Okay, I can do that. I assume you saw one already. How I got here. Shimmering, my teleport method. Could practically go anywhere in the world. I can also conjure or summon a knife to my hand. Athame, technically. There's spell casting as well. Also.. for offensive powers. I can create fireballs in my hand. Usually the size of a fist but I can enlarge it. But the power I usually use is basic for most demons. Energy balls. Like.. this." He set his glass down and took a step back. After focusing, an energy ball appeared in his hand. It was there, half the size of a fist and lightly crackling with energy. Then he made a fist to extinguish it. "Those can kill, leaving a scorch mark.. or low voltage like the one I just made, to just knock someone out. Depends on the intentions at the time. Oh, and there's also transformation. I can morph into my demon persona Belthazor. But I'd maybe wait on ever showing that, he's kind of.. large. And red all over, with dark tribal marks. I don't like to become him for too long a time or the demon side will want to take over. So it's best to just keep that side under and only use the powers I get from his side and nothing else."

"That's us." confirmed Ruby with an almost resigned air. "We make the deal but not a one of us knows what we're being let in for. Hell, its such a arbitrary concept till you're down there and then its oh so real and oh so vicious. They do it slow, turn you from a soul into a demon and it hurts, it hurts more than I can even name, and all the good and all the right is pulled out of you until all that's left is a monster, all that remains of the hell bound soul and most of us weren't all that good going in. Me, I'm not good, they say I am but I'm not. I just fell in love with a guy that is, and for him I'm trying to change, to be someone better, someone he can have pride in. To be the mother to this child." she said softly. "She'll need better than a demon, she'll need one that's willing to fight for her and for her father and her friends and I'll give her that."

In terms of powers, he'd gotten it right. "Yeah human hosts, the usual thing, someone easy, someone with the knowledge we need and we just take 'em, slip in to the body and make them ours. Its easy but its not pretty. And no we can't do any of that energy stuff you can. Not the lower levels anyway." Ruby let her eyes shift to black for a moment and then back to normal feeling a slight movement from her baby as she did. "There are others, Red means Crossroads, work for a guy called Crowley, good friend of mine, if still mostly evil. White are the higher ups, those closest to Lucifer himself and yellow...well...there's none...there's no one left with yellow. I think there was only ever one and he's gone. Lucifer, well we don't know. No ones ever seen. But he's not a demon, he never was. He's all angel."

Cole's story was different in a lot of ways, he was part human. Was that what Emily would be? Was it closer to him than her that her child would be? And he'd been used so cruelly, used much as he'd tried to give in to the humanity in him and he'd been held like that, forced to do things he didn't want to do. But he'd gotten his revenge all the same. In the end, she wondered had it comforted him, to see his father freed. "I'm sorry, its almost worse for you, trapped between two worlds like that and really belonging to neither. I think part of me will always be on the outside looking in up here, but that's okay. That's how its supposed to be because I'm still not human. I was for a week or so as part of a game by that jackass angel but I couldn't cope, the feelings, all that guilt. I couldn't deal with it."

His powers were more than hers, without the witch stuff at least and she'd never heard of a transformation like the one he was talking about, but he was being open with her and that meant a lot.

"I believe you. And you'll be okay here, I promise. Just help where you can and make friends. It'll go a long way to being happy here, believe me."
