Who: Darcy Rhone and Svetlana Sergievsky along with NPC!Children
What: Search for something to help with insomnia. And just getting new scenery.
When: Around four on the 12th of November
Where: Complex to a shopping center and who knows what else.
Warnings: Should be none

Svetlana was rather used to opening the door and finding random things from Brittany. At least the blond had learned to say who the gifts were from so that the Russian didn't get rid of them thinking they were a trap of some sorts. This time, it seemed to be a collection of DVDs by someone known as Don Bluth. Having shaken it off, Svetlana had forgotten about them until the next day when the girls had grown bored and Fayina started to show signs of causing trouble to do something. When in doubt, a movie. So they had chosen An American Tail and watched it with Anatoly. True, the girls didn't understand everything but they seemed to enjoy it and the music. It was cute, no doubt, and an interesting take on history. Oh, the girls didn't realize the meaning but despite the propaganda of the USSR, Svetlana could still see the parallels. Then it had ended and she had checked the boards and there seemed to be a tentative solution to the insomnia which Svetlana was suffering from. Oh, she doubted it would work as it was mostly her nerves and mind on hyperdrive, making it impossible to sleep. Still, it was worth a shot.

Now, she could have left the girls with Anatoly and let him choose another movie to show them or whatever, but the man was being ridiculous and refusing to sleep if she and or the girls were around and awake, so while things were still indeed strange, Svetlana decided that she would take the girls out so her husband could get some sleep. Just because she couldn't sleep didn't mean he had to suffer. Not that she understood his reasoning but he was doing that stubborn thing, which she knew would soon lead to him spiking her tea like Dmitri would do before she had been married and moved out. So she might as well try this hypnosis CD thing that Darcy had mentioned. What could it really hurt?

Getting the girls ready, the blond Russian made her way to the third floor and knocked on Darcy's door. Oh, she had told Darcy that she was bringing the girls so they got used to going out somewhere that wasn't school again and it was true. Because she did worry on how they would respond. But they all needed to move on. They couldn't let fear and paranoia control them. Yes, Svetlana had indeed heard Freddie's words, his advice and taken it to heart. She just had to figure out a way to go about implementing it into her life. This part was easier. The physical aspect. Yes, Svetlana herself was known to spend time away from the Complex after taking the girls to school, but the girls were still afraid and they needed to learn this as well. As for the opening up and trusting someone part? That was a bit harder.

Darcy was excited to have the opportunity to not only get out of the house, but to see Svetlana and the girls. It wasn't that she never saw them, but she didn't get to see them enough for her liking. Beside that, the idea of getting out of the house and taking the boys with her instead of having to waddle around with them still in the womb or sitting at home watching out the window longingly as they slept, was admittedly more exciting than it probably should have been. So, when Svetlana agreed to go shopping, Darcy bundled up the boys in nearly no time flat. KidzBop was still playing on the television when she heard the knock on the door, but already Darcy had taught herself not to hear it anymore. It was easier to tune out than it had been originally and it kept Ethan happy.

Cradling Sammy while she left Ethan on the floor on his blanket listening to the television, Darcy answered the door, all smiles. Pulling the door open, Darcy stepped aside and waved Svetlana and her girls inside with her free hand. "Come on in. Check out the new digs. Not too shabby, huh?" she asked with a smirk.

Today, Darcy was in a really, really good mood. If she thought about it for a second, she might've deduced that Ethan's moods tended to mirror her own. He hadn't cried all day and Darcy had given the credit to the stupid music, but...she hadn't cried all day or even felt like she wanted to. If she'd given it a moment's thought, it might've given her some relief. "Hey there peanut," she chirped at Fayina, closing the door behind the three of them. "And you, pumpkin," she said with a smile as she addressed Jelena and resisted the urge to kneel down to the child's level, if only because with Sammy in her arms, it'd have been really difficult to get back up.

"I just have to get the diaper bag put together and then we can go," Darcy said to Svetlana. "You can sit, if you want. Or, you could hold Sammy while I get Ethan in his car seat..." she offered, in case Svetlana wanted.

Smiling some as Darcy opened the door, Svetlana led the girls into the apartment once they were offered entrance and looked around, both at the checking out the place as she was told to, but also to ensure that there were no bugs. It was just habit as of late. Svetlana still wasn't so sure about the girls' school, but it wasn't as if she could get away with scanning the entire building. But a single apartment that was new for a friend? That she could get away with doing a quick scan of. Nothing overtly noticeable, okay. Of course, that wasn't too calming, bugs could be anywhere, but as there was no chance of her talking about the threat from the month previous as nothing had come up from it beyond increased paranoia and inability to sleep on top of all of Svetlana's other reasons for not sleeping, that wasn't too much an issue.

"It looks nice." And it did. The music was kind of strange, but from what Svetlana had read on Darcy's post, this was what kept Ethan quiet so she said nothing on it. Both of the girls seemed confused as to the peanut and pumpkin thing and shared a look saying as such but beyond that, they both just waved. With Jelena keeping a firm hold on her hand as she was far more clingy and needy following the dying and resurrecting incident, Fayina pulled away from Svetlana to do her own search of the apartment, undoubtedly to make sure it was safe. Well, so long as she didn't start any fights or act out, Svetlana would be okay with her making sure things were safe.

At the offer to hold Sammy, the blond gave a small nod. She could remember how difficult it could be to get things done while holding one child and trying to prepare things for the other.

"I can hold him if you like." Smiling some, Svetlana worried the sentence came out awkward but it was known to happen. Especially lately, which was probably why she was being more quiet. Less chance of making things sound strange because she was exhausted and stumbling with her translating.

In her cheerful mood, Darcy was oblivious to the way Svetlana and Fayina were searching her apartment. Svetlana was surreptitious about it while Fayina was just a child in a new place and Darcy expected the latter of the two to investigate. "Thanks," she chirped proudly at Svetlana's compliment of her new home. "Don't mind that awful music...it keeps Ethan quiet," she laughed, waving her free hand vaguely toward the television.

Svetlana's offer to take Sammy was admittedly awkward, but Darcy smiled and chalked it up to the language barrier, proud of her friend's English, in any case. She couldn't imagine trying to learn a new language just to get by, but at some point in her life, Svetlana had done just that and Darcy certainly wasn't going to fault her for semantics. "Thank you," she breathed gratefully, carefully handing over her son to Svetlana.

At that, she moved to scoop Ethan off the floor and looked around at Svetlana and the girls. "Make yourselves at home, I'll just be a couple of minutes," she replied. "If you guys want anything to eat or drink, have at the fridge, sweetie," she added more to Svetlana than to the children.

Then, Darcy took her leave and headed to the nursery, getting Ethan into his car seat and scooting it closer to the changing table where she could multitask rocking the chair with one foot — a skill she'd gotten very good at lately — while filling the diaper bag with anything she could possibly need on the boys' first outing. Part of her wondered if, with the weather as chilled as it was, if she really ought to be taking them out when they were so young, but she needed out and she had their receiving blankets, still, that she could drape over the car seats when they were outside to keep out the chill.

A few minutes later, she had the diaper bag slung over one shoulder and had a car seat — one carrying Ethan and one empty — in each hand as she returned to the living room. Once she'd set down the seats, she retrieved Sammy with another thank you to Svetlana for helping. There was a twin stroller in the closet, but Darcy left it there; they were small enough that she could still put the car seats in the top portion of a shopping cart, so she didn't think it would be worth it to drag yet another thing along with them. "Ready when you guys are," she said with a smile. Then, in a lower voice, she added to Svetlana, "Christmas is coming kind of soon...do you guys celebrate it? Because if you do, I'd like to get something for the girls. Which is not to say I expect something for the boys, because I totally don't."

Nodding at the offer to get food or drink, the Russian woman gave a small smile though she had no plans on partaking. It was only a few minutes, after all, and the girls didn't seem to need anything at the moment.

"Thank you."

As Darcy headed to the nursery, Svetlana moved to the couch and sat down, speaking softly to Sammy. Or trying to until Jelena tugged on her arm and pouted at her. Using her free hand, the blond ruffled her daughter's hair some before reassuring her that Sammy was not replacing her. She probably should have seen that one coming, but given Jelena was the one who was the most friendly of the two girls, it hadn't seemed an issue. But with her current mind set.... well, it was of no concern and it seemed the five year old picked up on that. And Fayina was still making sure that everything was safe.

The music didn't really phase Svetlana, instead she focused on Sammy and getting him used to her. Which meant she was singing softly in Russian out of habit. If she were to be honest with herself, it was awkward, knowing that Florence was the godmother of the two boys, but she was used to dealing with that particular brand of awkward and Svetlana had always been known for being able to handle such situations. Mostly, anyway.

With Darcy coming back and taking Sammy from here, Svetlana stood up and called Fayina over to her as the seven year old was on the other side of the room, Jelena grasping her hand tightly. Well, this was going to be interesting. Still, they needed to realize that there were safe places beyond the complex and school, which was the whole point of bringing them with her on this outing. Well, that and to let Anatoly sleep. At the comment on Christmas as they started out the door, Svetlana blinked. She hadn't even thought about Christmas. She knew that it was a bigger deal here than it had been back in the Soviet Union. What with it being discouraged and the like for religious purposes and the like. Still, they did have Ded Moroz who came along New Years. And it wasn't as if Christmas was completely gone, just more so underground.

"In a way.. It is discouraged back in Russia, it goes against the ideals of the state... Or it was, I suppose. But most of the traditions got pushed to New Years Eve... though I do not know if we plan to do anything here. I have a feeling it will come up, though with the girls in school so we may do something for it, even if it is small..."

Trying to acclimate the girls was trying at best. Because she knew it would come up and it wasn't as if they could say where they were really from. Things were different in Russia since the end of the Cold War and the girls had no idea. True, it didn't really give Darcy a definitive answer if she wanted to do something, but Svetlana really had no idea yet, though she was already making two blankets for the boys. But the conversation got them outside and now it was time to wait for the cab. Hopefully this adventure would prove fruitful in the means of getting Svetlana actual sleep. She couldn't keep this up much longer, no matter what her pride and stubbornness said.
