WHO: Princess Azula
WHAT: Fire Princess in Kansas
WHEN: 24th June Night
WHERE: Downtown Lawrence
RATING: TBD
STATUS: IN Progress

She hated her confinment, hated it with every fibre of her being, but still she was in a better positon than her father. She could still firebend. Zuzu hadn't yet been so callous as to take that gift from her. She would have, in his position with the Avatar as his friend, she'd have had him stripped him of his powers faster than he could think.

But her brother, the merciful new Lord of the Fire Nation had decided to try and help her. He would allow her visitors sometimes, the traitors her old friends. Mai who had loved him so always, loved him enough to betray her, what was it she had said, something about loving him more than she had feared her.

How foolish.

She didn't like to talk to her brother. Or any of them, content to sit, and plan for the day, and oh there would come a day when a mistake would be made and she would escape. And then she would make them suffer all on her own. The Waterbender and her brother first.

"You were weak to let me live Zuzu" she muttered, "Weak like Mother was weak", she reclined on her bed, a small flame dancing on the palm of her hand. She had long since stopped trying to burn her way out, it had prooved pointless and irritating both to her and her captors and she had not managed to escape.

"Ugh!" she exclaimed the sliver of flame in her palm rising and falling to match her irritation.

But it got bigger than she expected.

Azula looked around and immidiately fell into a combat stance, she was not in her room at the Institution anymore, not even in the Fire Nation from what she could tell.

Where was she? What was this?

Her eyes narrowed as the Princess and rightful Fire Lord took in her surroundings. Buildings too large even to have been built by the best the Earthbenders could do, metal...things that made hidious offending noises as she glared at them.

And people...many people, in strange attire. Azula grabbed one by the arm who turned to her spouting off a strange list of obcenities she had never heard uttered in her life.

"Stop talking!" she ordered, He didn't, so she tried again "Cease your prattle..." It wasn't working. "NOW!"

"HEY! You don't just get to grab me and...."

"You will tell me where I am, Did my brother do this?" she insisted.

"You're in America...Lawrence Kansas......jeez you break out of the mental hospital early or something"

Azula's lips curled into a dangerous sneer "Actually yes...somehow?" she conceeded and regarded the man, her grip suprisingly strong for a woman of her age. Him she would let live, no sense being wasteful. But she would mark him.

The Jet of flame caught his other arm, it would burn him, mar him like Zuzu had been marred by their father. It would serve as a reminder to him and maybe he would tell people. This done, his screams amusing her, Azula released the man. He didn't need to know her name, not yet. People would know it in time.

Whatever this place was with its metal carts and strange obcene men, she would discover why she had been brought here, and would discover a way back to the Fire Nation to face her brother without the insuffrable little peasent there to save him from her. A true Agni Kai and then she would take the throne as was right.

But first she had much to discover of this world.

It was nice to be able to walk down the streets and not worry about being attacked by garbage cans and ending up dead. Paige, as a habit, didn't go walking about late at night unless she was out to vanquish a demon. Or relaxing on P3. Or on a date. Or ... okay, so she went out at night but it was usually for something more exciting than because her fridge was out of juice.

Paige was turning a corner when she heard a scream. Of course she ran towards it. It could have been something out of her league, both in the form of power or a human crime against a human. Be that as it may, it was also in her nature to help out when someone needed it. Even if her focus was on the demon-evil variety than the human. Even if she was on her own.

Running across the street Paige found a woman standing over, a whimpering man. "You know, usually I'm all for woman power. But I'm not a big fan of people picking on someone weaker than they are. How about we step away from the nice man?"

Azula looked up at the voice a little put upon. No one spoke to her like that. What was it about this place in which she had found herself that had everyone so rude.

"He was insolent. So I punished him, its how we do things in the Fire Nation. Its really very simple"

The redheaded woman was using that tone of voice. The one Azula hated, the one Zuko's guards used when trying to placate the mad Princess. The one Ty Lee had tried the one time she'd visited. The visit hadn't lasted long after that.

"Tell me where I am and how I have come to be here and this man will become of no importance to me. He has learned his lesson I expect"

Paige raised a brow that was a mixture of disbelief and caution. She flickered her eyes barely for a second towards the man, the look on her face immediately becoming one of concern and worry. She couldn't seem much from where she was but she could tell already that it would get infected if it wasn't worked on my a professional. And there was no telling what kind of pain he was in but the sooner she could get him out of it the better.

When looking back at the woman, the expression her face went back towards careful. "I don't know where or what the fire nation is. But here in America? That's not how things work." Unless was evil. But that was getting into things that she didn't have the time to get into. "You're in Lawrence, Kansas. Which is in the United States of America. And believe it or not, you were brought here with because of a broken seal." There was no time to sweeten up the words. And Paige highly doubted that this ... woman, would appreciate the softening of any blows. She wanted the facts? Well, Paige would give them to her as straight as she could. "Demons are trying to let out Lucifer. Whenever a seal is broken, something strange happens. People come through. You're one of those people. And you're pretty much stuck here, so don't bother taking it out on people by trying to find a way back home. Not going to work."

United States. Unity of Nations. Ugh. Just like Zuko wanted. But this woman knew nothing of the Fire Nation. Which meant Azula wasn't in her world anymore, because everyone, man woman child, noble or peasent knew what the Fire Nation was. Or had been before her brother and his foolish ideals.

The words used were strange, seals, demons, Lucifer. Demons were legend, myth, they weren't real. And Azula had never heard the name Lucifer.

"Then the seal is to be fixed so I might return to..."

Return. To the Fire Nation, to her prison, perhaps Azula was being hasty. This world had power, the metal demons, the people, sp very many people, they would grow to fear her and she would regain her former power. She would build an army and then she would find her way home to reclaim her throne.

She switched tactics.

"I apologise if I've done smething wrong, thats just...thats dicipline in my Nation. And he was very rude when I asked where I was. Words I hadn't heard and I was scared, I perhaps acted rashly. My name is Azula" she told Paige, voice contrite.

Paige didn't think she brought the sudden change of tune. She wouldn't doubt that there was something rotten about it. However, while she didn't relax her stance, she nodded slowly and didn't allow her suspicions to show. "I don't think there's a way to fix the seals. If there is one, no one around here has managed to figure the way to do it."

Paige looked back at the man. Then Azula. Leo had always told her to trust her instincts; however, her instincts were a bit uncertain at the moment. They weren't telling her to trust this woman. However, they weren't telling her not to trust her either. Thread carefully, very carefully was the main theme. "I can understand that." Paige said slowly. She'd acted rash before. However, a rashness that tended to err with a heaping side of caution. Especially when it came to humans. But she didn't know what kind of world this woman had come from. It could be an act first, think later kind of place. In fact, Paige understood that motto could save many lives, including ones one. Not to mention, she better than most, understood how powers were tied to ones emotions. More so with fire-starters. "I'm going to need to get him to the hospital but I can answer any questions that you have. Show you some place to stay and how to protect yourself against the demons." She wasn't so sure about bringing her to the apartment complex. But she wasn't about to leave the woman to get hurt.

That was entirely not what Azula wanted to hear, and unbidden, a wisp of blue flame could be seen at the tips of her fingers..

"So you say I am stuck here?. In this world with metal demons and all sorts. With seals to raise a ...creature of power. What am I to do here?"

She looked down at the man she'd burned, he really had been rude to her but if she was to get along here she had to learn what she was dealing with and how this place worked. If she was going to advance in this strange world that didn't know of Firebenders or didn't know the name of the Princess Azula then she would have to perhaps bide her time a little.

"I accept your offer. I'll aid you in getting the man the attention he needs and then you will answer my questions, bring me somewhere that is safe and teach me how to protect myself in this world. Is this acceptable to you"

She seemed to notice the flame finally and with a tilt of her head it vanished from her fingers.

"...I apologise...I...didn't call it"

Paige had the weirdest feeling as if she were speaking to someone who was used to power. Like when she spoke with the Elders. There was that same 'yeah sure you're helping me out and doing me a favor, but I'm going to order anyway. While ending it all in a really bossy way. That traditionally? For most people? It'd be a request'. Which didn't spell evil per se but it certainly did equal trouble. Explaining things to beings who felt that other things were "there right" was a pain in the ass. Not to mention it meant bad things for those stuck with the fall out. Yeah, sure, with her family luck things tended to be rectified. But there was also the rare times where people died. And stayed that way.

Why her? "Thanks." Paige couldn't help but say a little drily, though her expression was grateful. She was iffy about using her powers around the man or Azula but they would waste time attempting to hail a cab. "Just take my hand." Paige said, not daring to ask Azula to hold onto the man. Walking over to him, she squatted down, slowly and carefully, she made to place her hand on his shoulder but he whimpered. "Hey." She said gently, a neutral but open expression on her face, her lips curving softly. "I'm not going to hurt you. I promise." She assured him, her tone soothing, as much as she could. "We're just going to go get you some help." Very carefully, he relaxed. Paige's eyes holding his good one. She could see the pain in it and not for the first time she wished that she had the ability to heal. Looking up to Azula, her expression became a bit more blank, determined. She held her hand out to the older female.

"It happens." Was all she said, and while her tone was a bit short. It wasn't judging. Her first priority was this man. "Take my hand and I'll take care of everything."

It was a little show of trust, Azula thought, the girl asking her to take her hand, asking that of a Firebender was dangerous if nothing else. Still she wouldn't harm the girl, there were far too many questions to be answered plus she had spoken of a place to stay. So the girl was safe from her.

And she was being all kind to the rude man. Azula didn't understand that but then people were sometimes very strange. She took the offered hand and noted that now that she had seen the man's burned arm the girl liked her even less.

"Indeed it does"

Still, she could firebend if the girl decided to try anything clever. "You have not told me your name" she asked conversationally, not at all used to standing in strange streets in stranger lands holding on to someones arm like a child would. "Or why you wish to help me?"

Paige didn't immediately answer Azula's questions. Instead all she said was, "Brace yourself." Looking both at the woman, than the man in turn. Before looking around. No one else around except for them, Paige orbed them to an alley close to a hospital. Paige had made it her responsibility to find out the closest police stations, hospitals, even social worker agencies were in the vicinity of Lawrence. Then she looked for the best easy orbing access, for whatever was safer. Without Leo and Darryl around to help her out with healing or the law, Paige quickly took matters in her own hands and formed methods around not having the two men she considered as brothers (and helped her out with so many different things) around to help her out when she was in a fix.

"Come on." She said to the man. "You need to stand up." There was no way she'd be able to yank him up. Years as a Charmed One, witch and whitelighter combo had made her stronger and given her some definite muscle but there was no way with her 5'4" stature and small frame would she be able to do so without some help. She wasn't about to ask Azula for help. When the man stood, she said, "You can lean on me." However, he refused, pride obvious and cradled his arm against him.

Instead of giving into the need to roll her eyes, Paige instead took it as a sign that he was going to be okay. Or as okay as he could be considering his injuries. Turning to look at Azula, Paige answered, "My name is Paige Matthews and I'm helping because you need my help." It was as simple as that to her. "Now are you coming along?" The other option was for Azula to wait, but Paige didn't like that idea. The walk wasn't too far from the hospital.

Azula was spooked to say the least. The girl had used some magic and she...moved her. Somehow, actually physically moved them from place to place and Azula was more than a little spooked. She didn't like it, not one bit of it. And the man was too worried about his arm to pretty much even notice what had just happened.

"Paige" she repeated "You're helping a woman that I can tell you don't trust. You think I'm...cruel. And now you facinate me as it happens, You have a power I've never seen before. So when you placte the rude man you will explain to me what you are and how you got us here."

Demand made Azula followed Paige, the girl knowing where they were give her a leg up on Azula. And Azula didn't like the feeling. Not at all.

Paige didn't stop herself from rolling her eyes. "Right. Explain to you. After I placate the rude man, I'll tell you what I know and what I can do."

She lead her strange little entourage to the emergency entrance. "Can somebody help us please!" She knew Emergency decorum. If you could even call it that. She had been a social worker and now she was a Charmed One. People needed their rest but sometimes you had to make yourself known, or else you would get looked over. There was a bustle. It could have been busier but it was busy enough that they would get over look. And a burn that bad needed immediate attention. Which was quickly proven as someone rushed towards them.

"What happened? How -- "

Paige cut the man off, "I found him in an allyway. I have no idea how it happened, but he needs medical attention. Now." Paige lied expertly and her now seemed to carry the words of 'there are no time for questions right now'.

"I know. Of course" The man, doctor, lead the injured man to a wheelchair. And the injured man looked first at Azula and then at Paige. The doctor's gaze followed his but Paige didn't look back at Azula. Instead giving the man a reassuring smile.

"Wait right here." The doctor said. "I need to ask you some questions."

Paige, this time, held onto her need to roll her eyes.
"Of course. We'll stay as long as you need us to." Watching them as they wheeled away, Paige turned back to Azula. "You have some questions? Let's here them." The woman was right. Paige had this instinct ... that she was cruel. As much as Paige didn't want to jump to conclusions, her instincts never steered her wrong. Which was why Paige wasn't going to ramble on with info, and would instead let Azula ask. And she would measure how much or how little came out of her own mouth.

Now SHE was being insolent. But Azula stayed her flames. It seemed she needed the girl. Needed to understand this place, and the most basic of needs, Needed somewhere to stay. If the girl refused then Azula would find her own way. Hurt to get what she needed. Use fear. It really was all she knew, for a valid reason. It was how things had always been.

This hospital was like nothing she had ever seen, strange machines beeped at her and Azula watched in morbid facination, jumping occasionally as people whizzed past her, and finally calming enough to return the mans gaze. If he thought she was sorry then he was so dreadfully wrong. They wheeled him away, she supposed to treat his burns and Paige turned to her.

"Oh we won't stay will we? How tiresome" she said trying to hold back on a yawn. But asking her questions nonetheless. And she had quite a number of them, a fact that should have suprised no one.

"Where is this place, with metal demons and strange noises. WHY is what I did so offensive to you?. What is the manner of my coming here?, What do you intend to do with me now that I am here and seemingly have committed a crime. At home I am Princess of the Fire Nation and commit no crimes because my word is law"

Okay that wasn't strictly true. Zuko had given her a list of her crimes, her cruelty he said. She wasn't cruel. She was efficiant. And she had every right to act as she did. Every right.

"What am I to do now?, Where am I to go?, How might I return to the Fire Nation?. Is bending illegal here?"

She thought about what she had said and finally nodded resolutely. That would do to be getting on with. She crossed her arms expecting answers, demanding them.

"We'll stay." Paige's tone was firm. "I want to make sure he's alright and the doctor wants to talk to me." She was saying it all for Azula's benefit, a reason but it was obvious that Paige wasn't going to argue about it. They were staying.

Paige sighed at Azula's questions. Where to begin. "I'm not sure when or where you're from, but you're in Lawrence, Kansas. It's a country in the United States." Watching Azula carefully, Paige said, "But I'm going to guess by your mention of the fire nation that that means nothing to you." She waited for the other woman to answer.
