Who: Everyone involved in the Take Down a Dalek thread
What: Taking down a Dalek, unsurprisingly!
When: Late night
Where: the streets of Laurence
Rating: TBD
Status: In Progress
[Note: Yes, I'm getting all of mine into the opener to get them sorted. Because of the huge number of characters a posting order would be a silly plan and feel free to set up sub threads, just mark who is meant to be in them!]

She had a soldier's training, but she didn't think anything could have prepared her for this. It didn't seem to matter how many times Martha faced the Daleks, every time they sent a cold fear through her. They had slaughtered their way through Manhattan, she had been the only one from Project Indigo to even get out alive, thanks to her use of an untested teleporter.

She had watched the Daleks be destroyed, had seen Davros left in the burning ruin of his crumbling empire as the TARDIS had left, but still it hadn't seemed to be enough. Somehow, through time travel or manipulation or even magic, somehow the Daleks always survived. When she'd first heard the call through the radio she had wanted to just curl up and cry.

But her training took over. Now she was dressed in her black UNIT uniform, her hair tightly tied back as she looked out grimly, every inch the UNIT officer. Her arms were folded tightly across her chest as she nodded tightly to Faith, giving her the order to go.

------

Faith received the nod with one of her own, jogging off as she had been ordered. Once upon a time she would have fought every single order with a brash attitude and a casual indifference, but this time she was prepared to follow them. Maybe it was a sign of maturity.

It didn't take her long to find a Dalek, that eerie glide it was doing down the street making her distinctly uncomfortable. Plan bait. Fantastic. At least she knew she was still fast.

Aiming her gun, even knowing it wouldn't do anything to the alien robot thing, she fired it directly at the head, catching it's attention before she bolted into a run, faster than any human could, luring it towards the rest of the group, dodging and weaving to avoid any hits from the weapon.

------

Gwen was nervous. The last time she'd tried being on Team Good Guy she had ended up being beaten up by a giant rock demon thing blotting out the sun. Not exactly fun times. But they were all stuck here and she had no desire to get exterminated or anything, so she supposed that meant being helpful.

Backing away from the people, wanting some space and really wanting to avoid accidental contact, she slipped off her gloves. Sparks ran down her arms, over her fingertips, as the feeling of power in the air increased. The energy in the sky began to gather as the lightning began to form, almost a comforting whisper in her mind. As she heard the younger Slayer girl round the corner and Martha shouted the order, she began to let loose, streaks of lightning crashing down from the sky behind the Dalek as she sent out sparks from her hands. She avoided hitting the thing, not wanting to accidentally feed the machine or whatever, but the bright electricity all around it would hopefully distract the thing enough that it would be disorientated.

------

Hermione's wand was out and ready. Not that she was in any way sure what spells would even work on this thing, but she was just about ready to try all of them. Aliens were so outside of her area of expertise, but magic was always worth a try. After that she fully intended to hide behind some of the stronger people while they quickly came up with a new plan.

She wasn't sure if she felt comforted by the presence of the other wizards, knowing that she wasn't alone, or more panicked by the fact they were, sort of, a younger generation. Even if they were technically the same sort of age as she was, she still felt the ridiculous need to protect them.

"Everyone ready?" She called out, her mind already thinking up the first spell to use as the sparks from Gwen Raiden lit up the street.

Jaina was working with an angel. It didn't really phase the Jedi, she hadn't quite grasped the concept of what they were beyond some kind of version of a Jedi Master in this world. It was fair, and the Jedi stood beside him now watching the wizards, watching the girl calling down lightning a little disconcerted, she didn't like watching people hurl lightning. Even Gwen whom she was getting to know and even now. It brought back memories she'd rather not think on.

Her mouth set in a thin line, Jaina focused on the approaching Dalek and nodded calling to Gwen.

"Standing by" she replied, still sounding like a pilot. "May the Force be with you" she added. That of course, was pure Jedi.

Castiel stood by Jaina's side, a little horrified, a little bewildered.
He watched Martha closely for his signal, glancing away now and then to see what the others were doing and where they were.

The thing they were fighting seemed so simple, almost docile as it rolled along, just expression cylinder with a few protrusions.
One girl drew it's fire, her speed super-human. Another brought lightening down from the sky, another thing a human should not be able to do.

Then there was the girl next to him. The girl who had mastered one of his own powers. He could not question any of this now. The only thing on his mind was the mission. He raised his hand, ready to focus his power through it.

"On your command," he called to Martha.

The strange words of his companion spurred him to add his own. "May the Lord watch over you and lend you strength."

Tech Thread - Romana, Star, The Doctor

Romana felt like she was back on Skaro, or Gallifrey near the end, sounds of gunfire, shouting orders, all of it. Furious, angry, every emotion she'd felt then was back, but she wouldn't let them win. Woudln't let them gain a foothold in this world.

She was waiting for the Dalek itself to be removed, pulled from the shell so that she, her fellow Gallifreyan and the mute girl from the future populated by machines who she believed were just as horrifying to her world.

"Keep an eye out. Thats not the only Dalek there is, so when it gets destroyed, don't assume there won't be another, we get, get what they need, they draw our fire, understand.

Star looked grim, this was altogether too much like home as far as she was concerned. She nodded once at Romana's warning, and the orders. Orders were something she was used to.

She hefted her wrench, it was big enough and heavy enough to use as a club if necessary, she was just waiting for the order to go, trying to keep an eye on everyone.

The rest of the bait - Ianto & Cal

Call rolled his shoulders, checking his gun one last time. It wasn't his portable cannon from home, but it would do, he supposed. Especially since he was just supposed to help keep the thing's attention. He arched a brow as Faith charged past, shaking his head, a faint smile caught at the corners of his mouth, she was fast.

He swung himself out of the alcove where he'd been tucked against a building, bracing the gun against his shoulder and firing, "Hey! Y'overgrown trash can!" He wasn't sure, really, if the thing could hear or not, but it made him feel better. He snapped off another shot before darting forward himself, ducking into the shadows between the next two buildings, herding the Dalek on towards the next checkpoint, keeping it on track.

Ianto had years of schooling in tempering his expression to remain neutral even when he feared his concentration would be shaken. It served him well, now.

He wasn't quite sure when he'd become perfect bait material, because this hadn't even been the first time. It went against every grain of sensibility to actually make himself noticed rather than taking the subtle approach; there wouldn't be a Time Lock here if everything went to hell, and there was no coming back after this if a single shot from the Dalek hit its mark. But when had that ever stopped any of them.

Following Cal's direction from the other buildings opposite him, he intermittently fired bursts of bullets at the Dalek to keep diverting its attention, so it wouldn't focus too long on any single person - more significantly, focus too long on Cal, who was doing a fine job of distracting it. Despite the gravity of the situation, the side of his lips curled up into a wry smirk as he heard the battle cry: "Hey! Y'overgrown trash can!"

Ianto couldn't have put it better himself.

Cal had pretty much always been bait, he was the loud one, the brash one, the one who liked firearms. Niko, his brother, was the quiet subtle one who preferred a knife in the back.

With the Dalek's repeated exclamation of 'exterminate' he was starting to feel like he was in a b-grade sci-fi movie. He was careful to conserve ammo, since he wasn't sure how long they'd have to keep this up. He also tried to aim for the same spot each time, the side of what would be considered the thing's neck.

Castiel's role was easy. All he had to do was stretch out his hand and let a portion of his grace hold the creature still.

But it was not that easy. He was unfamiliar with his target and so he had to play catch up. He could feel its defences shift and he had to battle to catch each new trick it offered.

It took more energy than he expected but he held firm. His hand shook with the effort.
