Who: Tommy and Kira.
What: Yay now is fighty time fighty time blood blood blood! (Yes this is a Deadpool quote, but it's appropriate. Shut up.)
When: Today.
Where: Greed's hiding place.
Warnings: Probably not too many.
Tommy wasn’t thrilled with this whole alternate universe situation. When he first got here he was relatively relaxed about it, because he’d been certain there would be some alternate Reed Richards or Hank McCoy who could get him home. Failing that, he’d been hoping for at least a Peter Parker or Tony Stark, even if Stark was an unrepentant toolbag that Tommy wanted to punch in his stupid face every day for the rest of forever. Now that he was here and saw that there weren’t any of those people? He was significantly less relaxed. What made it even worse was that the locals were crazy, only partially because of the stupid Sin thing. A complex where you didn’t have to pay for the apartments? The people here had to be crazy if they thought anybody would buy that. Nothing in any world was free. Maybe the price wasn’t readily apparent, maybe they wouldn’t ask for it for years, but there was always a price. Tommy might have felt more comfortable if they were honest and upfront about it, but they weren’t. Instead, they were trying to hide their bullshit behind some humanitarian puppet, as if they were the first cons to do just that.
Whatever, Tommy knew better. It was why he’d spent so much time criss-crossing the world looking for the most gullible-looking motel manager that spoke a language he could understand. He’d had plenty of time to work out the kind of con he’d use once he did. Maybe he should’ve felt bad about conning the guy, but he knew damn well that the guy would’ve gleefully taken advantage of him if he’d tried the much less deceitful “teenage runaway” story. Adults were all the same, with a few very notable exceptions. Cap, Luke Cage, and Jessica Jones were pretty much the only names on that list, as far as Tommy was concerned. So when he’d finally found a motel manager that seemed gullible enough, he’d claimed he was an angel on a secret mission from God, flashed a little speed and blown up a paperweight to prove it, and the guy had practically handed Tommy the entire building. He may have also implied that if the guy told anyone, he’d send him to Hell, but that was just a practical concern. Couldn’t have some motel manager going off to warn people that some guy with powers was staying in room E14, after all.
The practical concerns of a roof, a shower, and food out of the way, he’d turned his attention to the problem of the Sins. He’d told Kira about being able to steal exorcisms from the Vatican, but it wasn’t quite as simple as he’d made it out to be. Oh, sure, he could superspeed through the place and steal what he needed to, but he had to at least know where it was first. So he’d been making routine trips across the pond and into the heart of Vatican City, blazing through the archives at a speed too high to be seen. He absolutely could perceive things at superspeed, so it wasn’t hard for him to start pinpointing where in the archives specific things were. Sadly, he pretty much had his memories of The Exorcist to go on, because he didn’t speak or read whatever fancy language they spoke over here, and so far he hadn’t found what he was looking for.
Luckily, he didn’t have to. That guy made that post with the crazy Klingon stuff, so Tommy filed away the stuff he knew about the Vatican for now. He figured it could still come in handy at some point, if he was stuck here in an apocalypse-ridden world. Who knew what kinds of treasures lurked in there? Tommy had half a mind to start looking for a certain infamous spear, but put it off for now. Sins first, awesome search for lost treasure later. It didn’t hurt that the Sins thing meant he’d be meeting with a cute girl to figure out the Klingon, and it also didn’t hurt that Kira was one of the few people he actually trusted around here. Showing up at the same time gave them some immediate common ground, and it probably also helped that they were dropped into the middle of a crisis. Two crises, actually, but only one was immediate. Plus, he trusted her one hell of a lot more than some adult he didn’t know.
The two of them had spent the last few hours in the mall food court working out the pronunciation of that thing the guy posted – which, as it turned out, was Latin rather than Klingon – and then a plan for how to deal with the Sin they’d decided to go after: Greed. The plan was relatively simple. They both had powers. Greed would want them, so one of them would be bait while the other would prepare the exorcism. Tommy had valiantly volunteered to be bait largely as an attempt to impress Kira. He’d be relatively safe, too. He didn’t care how fast these demons were, he felt it was a pretty safe bet that he was faster. If he had to and they got in over their head, he could grab Kira and speed them right the hell out of there.
They were standing near the storage place Greed was holed up in. It made perfect sense that he’d be there. Tommy hated to admit it, but without the rest of the team here, he was a little nervous. Sure, all you really needed was him, but…it was nice to have Kate and Billy and Teddy and Vision and Cassie and yes, even Eli to count on. Still, somebody had to do this, right? And he had Kira with him, and she seemed cool. They would be fine. Outwardly, he was doing a pretty good job of keeping his nervousness from showing. Instead he just took a deep breath, glanced to Kira, and nodded towards the building. “You ready?”
