Who: Charlie McGee and Kael’thas
What: First meeting in person regarding Charlie’s control over fire
Where: Kael and Jennifer’s place
When: Present day, later on in the day

Arriving in Lawrence Kansas had been a jarring enough situation for Charlie standing on its own. She had never even dreamed up such a situation in her imagination. What had surprised her even more, though, was finding other people who seemed to have some sort of control over fire. There were plenty of people back in her home who had supernatural abilities. Her father had been quite talented with mind control thanks to the Lot Six experiments he had been a part of. It was exciting to hear of Kael’thas and upon learning about his special talent Charlie was dying to meet and talk to him. She had her fingers crossed that he might be able to help her control her own ability.

Charlie never put a whole lot of effort into her appearance except for the few times she had applied for jobs. She treated this as if it was one of those interviews. Charlie dressed herself in a way she imagined was appropriate for the meeting, donning her nicer looking jeans and an unwrinkled shirt. She brushed the knots out of her hair and fixed it into a ponytail.

She ran the address Kael had given her through MapQuest since she still didn’t know her way around the city very well, and folded the printed out instructions, tucking them into her pocket so that she could reference them once she was on her way. After mere seconds spent waiting for the elevator, Charlie decided to take the stairs for speed’s sake. Truth be told, she was a little keyed up over everything. It was exciting to find someone with somewhat similar talents after years spent feeling like an outcast of sorts.

Following her directions, Charlie eventually found herself at the address that was given to her. She gave the door a few polite knocks and waited as patiently as she could manage.

Charlie’s eyes widened upon seeing the phoenix. Everything about this meeting was a hundred times more spectacular than she had expected, though upon further reflection she realized that she wasn’t really sure what she had expected.

“No, definitely not a chicken,” She murmured in an uncharacteristically soft tone. Charlie remembered the period of time she and her father had spent at a family’s farm when they were on the run from The Shop. As a child she’d been so fascinated by the animals. The way that everything had a purpose in that place seemed to appeal to her. Nothing at all like the factory farms that had sprouted up all around the present day United States. It had been a shame that she wound up burning the place to the ground.

“Oh,” She wrinkled her eyebrows. Charlie had been so looking forward to the meeting that she hadn’t given much thought to what she hoped to gain from all of it. It seemed like one of the few times she had shown up at traditional school unprepared. She mentally scolded herself for letting such a thing happen. “Would it be helpful for me to demonstrate?” Her eyes examined the room. She wasn’t sure if she wanted to cause a fire in Kael’s home for fear of burning anything or messing up the placement of things.
