Something had snapped inside the Slayer during Dean’s torture of her. After he’d broken her, she had gone silent, limp, not responding to anything he or Ruby said. She refused the food she was offered, drinking water only because they could force it down her throat because she was still chained. She wasn’t bleeding any longer, but her clothes were in bad shape, caked with dried blood. Someone – she’d been unconscious at the time so she didn’t know who – had cleaned up the larger cuts on her side, and she could feel them starting to heal under the bandages. Two fingers on her left hand were broken, and swollen now.

But she didn't care.

She bided her time, ignoring them whenever they entered the cabin, and fighting against the chains when she was alone until her wrists bled on the metal. Finally, after hours or days, she didn’t really know, she felt the give from them. The weakest link snapped under the immense pressure she’d been putting on the chains, and she fought to get them all off of her, glad to finally be free. As she stood, Faith winced as her bare feet touched the floor. There were cuts on the soles of her feet, also mostly healed, but still tender. The last time she’d been even close to this injured was when a stab from Buffy had put her into a coma for eight months.

Fighting the pain that threatened to send her into a blackout, the Slayer stretched carefully, ignoring the feeling of one of the wounds on her side reopening, causing blood to soak the bandage fairly quickly, then headed for the door. It was locked from the outside, and she gritted her teeth, then kicked at it sharply, sending it careening halfway off the frame. She stepped through, chocolate eyes scanning her surroundings in search of some way out, before she then began to run, fueling herself on pain and rage alone.

K-9 didn't have a chance to say anything else before the woman had slammed into Leela. Leela cried out in surprise as she hit the ground with the woman and rolled with her. Her walking stick clattered away from her, out of her reach. She was trying to get her bearings when she came to a temporary stop. She wasn't completely sure if she was on top of the woman or not, but that's what it seemed like considering she didn't feel the hard ground against her at all.

But Leela didn't have enough time to register much more before she felt the punch to her jugular. She'd barely had time to gag before she felt the sharp pain rip through her as her nose was broken by the upper cut. Again, Leela cried out. In reflex, she recoiled slightly, but found she kept going as the woman threw her. Leela grunted as she hit the ground. She tried to roll, but the assailant was on top of her, squeezing her throat. As her airways were cut off, she choked and tried to defend herself. Leela gripped Faith's wrist and tried to break her hold on her throat. With her other hand, she lashed out to try and punch Faith, but she was disoriented. Even when she did have a deathwish, her natural instinct was to put up a fight.

"Unhand the Mistress!" K-9 demanded, getting ready to zap Faith. He set his laser to stun as he wasn't really wanting to kill anyone.

All Faith saw, for the most part, was red – figuratively speaking. When the woman’s fist caught her in the jaw, causing her teeth to click together, and nearly bite through her tongue, one of Faith’s hands left her neck and snagged her chin. Her killer instinct kicked in and she jerked the chin sharply to the left while the right hand tightened even more around the neck. She heard a crack that sounded eerily familiar, and the fists quit punching her. Letting go, her gaze focused on the source of the other voice. It looked like a cross between a dog and a toaster, and had something hanging out of its mouth. With a grunt of annoyance, one of her fists jerked out and punched it in its strange metal head, sending it flying into a tree a short distance away.

Slowly, Faith stood, no longer seeing the body on the ground, and after a moment, she started to run again, trying once more to find a way of there.

Leela tried to scream, cry out for help, fight off her assailant, but her voice was silenced by Faith's grip on her neck. But despite her best attempts to fight for her life, it was snuffed out in a single instant. Her neck snapped and her body fell limp against the ground. Having been locked within a dark world, the passage into death wasn't a shocking one. At least she didn't have to deal with her world suddenly going black. But it was incredibly frightening and jarring. But in that one instant, Leela was finally free of the Hell she had been living in. No longer would she have to deal with the torment that her life had become. Now, she could finally be at peace.

K-9 was jarred a bit from the punch and hitting the tree. "Mistress!" K-9 exclaimed, returning to Leela's side. When he got no response and Faith had fled, K-9 went off to alert the necessary people to what had happened. And now, he no longer knew what to do as his Mistress was dead.
