WHO: Gwen Raiden and Clark Kent
WHAT: Electric thief meet the farm boy super hero!
WHEN: Afternoon
WHERE: the market where Clark works
RATING: TBD
STATUS: In progress

Even dancers had to eat. Gwen didn't eat that much admittedly, the combination of a desire to stay slim and the fact that her coke habit kept her appetite nicely suppressed saw to that. But even she sometimes ate and though she'd rarely admit it, when she did she liked to ensure she ate quality food. It was possibly hypocritical considering how much she drank and how much coke she snorted, but she liked healthy food. It had taken her a while to find the market but now she had, she was actually enjoying picking up the fruit and comparing it, trying to find the best piece.

Despite the heat of the day, almost all of her skin was covered, with her trade mark long, black silk gloves getting the most odd looks from people. Gwen rolled her eyes as yet another stranger gave her outfit a sideways glance, though to be fair it may have been the skin tight leather pants more than the gloves from that guy.

Turning her back on him, she looked for someone who maybe worked there, holding a watermelon she was thinking of buying.

It took Gwen a moment to twig what he was getting at, or rather most decidedly not saying, but once she did she half smirked and half smiled ruefully as she followed him to the cash registers, already tugging at the money tucked away in the pockets of her tight leather pants.

She leaned on the counter as she watched him do his work, her eyes watching his movements. Hadn't she said that to Gunn once? "A good thief is the master of body language". And Clark's was talking loudly.

"You didn't think a cokehead like me cared much about healthy did you." Her tone wasn't as sharp as it normally was, just softly stating an obvious fact.

He flinched at the forwardness. Gently placing the watermelon onto the counter, Clark shook his head in protest. "I didn't - I mean, okay, I did...but, that wasn't exactly how...I wouldn't put it that way." Palms pressed flat against the counter, Clark looked at her awkwardly before glancing over his shoulder and releasing a heavy sigh.

"I don't know how it works with...that. It was an assumption. I never should have made it and I'm sorry." He didn't like to offend people unless he had to. And Gwen, unfortunately, was someone that was so caught up in a delicate situation that Clark knew the only way he wanted to handle discussion of her problem was as carefully as possible.

"Yeah you would," Gwen softened the statement with a smile, one actually devoid of her usual sarcasm. This guy was just too cute.

"Don't worry about it," she waved his embarrassment away with a gesture. "I know it seems weird. Generally I like to take care of myself, I mean my body is my livelihood, gotta take care of it," now some sarcasm was creeping in, but not directed towards Clark.

"I just happen to enjoy getting high as well. Everyone's got a vice," she hesitated before looking at Clark. "Well maybe not you."

"I don't understand how you could talk about eating healthy and taking care of yourself when you're doing..." He looked around, easily suggesting that Clark was afraid someone would be easedropping on their conversation. It was less of a concern about people pointing out who he associated with and more of a gesture to keep her personal business personal. "You're doing drugs, Gwen. That's not healthy. No matter how many watermelons and healthy foods and activities you throw yourself into, you're never going to be healthy until you stop."

Great, now he was lecturing. That wasn't what Clark had planned on doing when he ended up talking to this woman. Clearing his throat, he looked down silently for a moment before he turned to the register. "I'm sorry." He seemed to be apologizing a lot. "Let me ring this up for you."

In so many ways this guy was the polar opposite of Lindsey, but the tune was the same. A faint blush tinged Gwen's cheeks as she looked away. When confronting Lindsey she never, ever felt embarrassed over her habit, but for some reason, the earnestness of Clark made her feel, well not quite shame, but something edging close to it maybe.

She nodded slightly as he rang up the melon, her cash out and ready before she cleared her throat, making herself look up at Clark.

"You got a break coming up? I could maybe buy you a coffee or something and I can tell you my side of things without people around you to overhear you hanging around with a drug user."

Clark took the money from her. Stuffing the cash into the machine, he dished up her change and handed it out to her before pushing the register drawer shut. "I do," Clark responded, "in fact, my break should be starting anytime now. If you want to wait a few while I run back and tell my manager that I'm heading off I'll be more than happy to come along with you. There's a coffee place just down the street."

Of course, Clark being the gentleman that he was, he didn't plan on letting her actually buy the coffee for either of them. But Gwen didn't need to know that.

"Wait right here, all right?"

Gwen nodded with a small smile, accepting her change and her fruit before she stepped to one side, out of the way of anyone else who might want to get to the register, or more importantly brush near to her deadly skin.

She wasn't sure why she was doing this, instead of just walking away. Defending her lifestyle choices wasn't something she was ever used to doing. Usually she just brushed off any criticism, going on with her life. But for some reason, she didn't want Clark to judge her.

Balancing the bag of fruit on her hip, she waited for Clark to come back, wondering just how she was planning on making taking her clothes off and stealing for a living, let alone an expensive drug habit, sound acceptable.

He took a quick trip to the back, explained that he needed to take a short break, and whisked his way back to the front in a flash. Not necessarily the red and blue blur of a flash that he had gotten the nickname for while stopping crime throughout the streets of Metropolis, but it was certainly a speedy for someone who wasn't using their abilities to make it so.

"All right," Clark said, double checking his back pocket for his wallet before decidedly nodding off at the bag in her hands. "Do you want me to get that for you?" Yes, still the gentleman. One would find that this particular part of his personality never quite dwindled.

Gwen smirked faintly as she glanced over to him.

"You realize I'm actually stronger than humans right? Super powers and all," she was strong enough to hold her own in a fight with a vampire, useful in her version of LA, not so much here. Still, she handed him the fruit anyway. "But far be it from me to prevent someone being a gentleman. A dying breed you know."

She glanced down the street before spying the coffee place. "So, coffee?" She gestured at the shop. "Caffeine's allowed as a drug then?"
