Who: Murphy & Connor MacManus
Where: The lobby to start, and then parts unknown
When: Yesterday! Aka: Jan 2nd
Warnings: Probably some swearing.

Murphy's mind was in a whirl, it was too much to process all at once, he'd even gone back to the informational page that he'd been given two or three times while conversing with his brother, but even breaking it down it was still a lot to take in. And then there was the prospect that somehow Connor had jumped ahead eight years, and that prospect was unsettling at best, they were twins, arguing over who was older was just what they did it was unfair for someone to go and clear that up without so much as a how d'you do.

He smoked as he walked, glad that he'd had a half pack in his coat pocket, needing something to keep himself occupied aside from trying not to look suspicious with a bag full of heavy artillery slung over his shoulder. He had to believe that no one would know what it was, after all, it might just as easily have been sports equipment. It didn't take him long to find the place, he'd gotten good directions and he was still full of nervous energy, which made him walk a little faster than usual.

He hesitated a few long moments on the front steps, finishing off his cigarette and flicking the butt end of it off into a sludgy puddle before trudging up the stairs and easing the front door open, not entirely sure what to expect, really as he slipped through, having fallen into that almost-silent movement that seemed to creep over him the same as that sense of purpose did.

He nodded, just absorbing the information, it made sense to him, really, that they would have dropped off the radar as best they could at some point, and he figured they'd be good at it, but knowing that they hadn't just up and stopped was comforting in a way. Just the same as knowing that Connor was still iffy on the apocalypse, but wanted to believe it was comforting as well, made him think that maybe he wasn't so crazy.

He finally said: "Aye, that's what I was thinking." he hadn't had much chance to talk with anyone yet to judge their honesty, or their sanity, for himself, but he was going to rectify that once he was done catching up with Connor, especially if there really were years between them. He followed in silence for a moment, asking: "Do you think we've got a chance? At stopping it, not just you and me, everyone."

"I'm not really sure," he admitted. "It doesn't quite seem like the one I remember hearing about. I certainly don't remember anything about people ending up in a different place altogether because a seal broke. But if this demon bitch means to use it to bring Hell to Earth, it sounds like something they'll want to be stopping at all costs."

Reaching the fifth floor, Connor lead the way to his apartment. Unlocking the door, he headed inside, leaving the door open for his brother to follow. "Make yourself at home." Unnecessary statement as he knew Murphy would do just that but it seemed like the thing to say.

He glanced around the room, assessing it the same as he usually did with a new place, setting the duffel full of weapons down out of the way before sprawling himself into a chair, smile going crooked and amused, "Nice digs. Better than what we've got in Boston." He shook his head then, resuming the prior thread of conversation with: "Aye, not how I remember it either, but it might be a test. Step up from the usual scum we deal with."

He shrugged then, it wasn't ego as far as he was concerned, they'd been tapped for a noble mission, and this seemed like the next logical step, "The 'you are here' page said something about a protection amulet. You got one?" He wasn't sure on that, there were a lot of things about the situation he wasn't sure on, really, but that was a good place to start.

"Don't have to pay a thing for it either. Demons aside, I could get used to this place." Not that they had much choice in the matter. It wasn't as if there was a way to reverse their situation. "A little more of a challenge, with the demons using the innocent." They wouldn't be able to shoot to kill anymore, at least not when it came to those things, but the page they had been given hadn't ruled out anything else. "But evil is still evil."

Connor brushed aside a newspaper that he'd dropped over the dismantled guns on the table, picking up the amulet he'd left beside the empty clips. Turning, he tossed it to his brother. "We'll talk to someone about getting you one," he said as he dropped down into one of the other chairs. "Or maybe that symbol they were talkin' about. Seems like the smarter idea if there's a chance of a fight."

It wasn't as if ink was anything new to them, he nodded at that, though he turned the amulet over in his fingers, "Dinky little thing." he shook his head, "Be easy to lose." A shrug then, tossing it back, "Probably right about the symbol. S'long as we can find someone to slap it down right." After all, it seemed like one of those things that needed to be exact for it to work.

He rolled his shoulders, settling himself more comfortably, "I'd seen that, about the human shields." He shook his head then, "Just means we wing 'em instead of going for a kill-shot. Figure we can manage that." It would just take a little practice was all, re-train themselves.

Too much of a liability. The idea of it being taken away that easily didn't settle well with Connor, the part where without it they could be possessed especially. Having a strange looking tattoo seemed like a small price to pay. "There was a name in that thing of someone who does them. Clary, I think it was." One more thing to take care of to get along in this place.

He caught the amulet, letting it dangle from his fingers by the cord. "Plenty of places to hit that won't kill." After several firefights, one with their own father, they were a walking testament to that statement. "I'm thinking maybe we should look into that training camp they were talking about, get a better idea of what we're up against."

He nodded at hat suggestion, "Aye, doesn't sound like too bad a plan, more we know the better off we'll be." And learning just who their allies were around here wouldn't hurt either so far as he was concerned. he scratched his chin, brow furrowing a moment, "Don't suppose the demon-possessed are any stronger than the person would be on their own, do you?" Because that might throw a wrench in the whole 'wing them' plan.

It was easy to ignore the fact that there were, indeed, years between them, because Connor was still Connor even after nearly a decade, and he still thought the same, at least so far as Murphy could tell, "And aye, Clary sounds like the right name."

"You know, it was easier doing this when we were making shit up as we went along. We were damn good at it." So maybe his plans hadn't gone quite as expected but they'd always held it together enough to see the job through to the end. Now there were rules other than their own code to follow. Connor frowned, trying to remember what he'd taken from the question and answer. "I don't know," he replied finally. Well, there was a good question and a good argument for those classes.

"Did you bring any money with you? It looks like I left my wallet in another dimension." The moment those words left his mouth, Connor closed his eyes and shook his head. If someone had ever said that to him, he would have called them on their sanity without a second thought. Now he was saying it. "Probably won't be the strangest thing I've said here."

He laughed, just one quick bark of sound before shaking his head and digging through his pockets, finally coming up with his wallet and leafing through it, shrugging, "Not much. But that's never stopped us before." Normally he would have said how crazy a statement like that sounded, but he was surprisingly willing to just roll with this as it came, still half-expecting he was going to wake up any minute.

He was already compiling a list of questions to ask that hadn't been covered on the information page, and if they had been, they'd been so buried in everything else that he'd missed them. Obviously the people here didn't mind the weapons cache so much, which he could appreciate, it would make things easier, not having to hide it somewhere, "Something tells me we're going to be saying a lot of things here that'd normally be strange."

Connor laughed as well, running his hand over his eyes. "Aye. If anything, it's made us more creative. Handy life skill." There were some fond memories, of nights at McGinty's trying to get a couple of drinks when payday was still a few days off. With the money they'd gotten from those they'd taken out and Doc's support of their mission, they hadn't had to do that for a while but he suspected getting back into the habit would be easy to relearn.

"Until it becomes normal. That would be about the time we all get set right again." Which, if he'd been reading right, sounded like it happened from time to time. Although not quite as often as they arrived. If they ended up right back where they'd disappeared from, Connor could take a little weird. "At least we won't be getting bored."

Murphy hadn't gotten very far on reading back on the boards, just far enough to get a general idea of what had happened, and then of course the information page, which still didn't make the most sense to him, but he was willing to go with it for now. He nodded, smiling crookedly once more, "Aye, that's usually how it works, just as soon as you get used to something it changes all around on you." They were going to have to find a new favorite pub, and he didn't suspect there was a proper one anywhere nearby, but he'd hold off on judgment for the time being.

What he said was: "We never were much good at bored." A one-shouldered shrug, followed by: "Have you found a new pub yet?" After all, Connor had already had a week to look, and Murphy didn't think he'd spent that week entirely sober, because that just wasn't in their nature.

"Ma would testify to that." Their mother had told them on more than one occasion how they were responsible for the frazzling of her nerves and the appearance of gray hairs. But neither of them had been born with the ability to sit still for long periods of time and do nothing. That was more likely to get them into trouble than anything else anyway.

"There's a place called Dempsey's that just opened up," he replied and shrugged. "Nice place and all but it's missin' something." He missed the familiarity of McGinty's, from the regulars they'd gotten to know and befriend to Doc's mix and match proverbs. "There's a couple of others but I haven't visited those yet."

Ah yes, the regulars, all six of them, including the twins and Rocco. Murphy nodded, looking solemn for a moment, "Somethin' by the way of company? Or somethin' by the way of atmosphere?" Not that atmosphere was anything they'd actively worried about before, but he knew the feeling, or remembered it at least, that they'd latched on to McGinty's because it was almost like the pub back home, tiny and dingy and loud with nobody so much as batting an eye if there was a fight or two, not that there were many of them.

He shook his head, "Doesn't matter, we'll find a place." That was something else they were good at, just fitting in wherever they landed, and he was hoping a whole different dimension wouldn't throw off that habit too badly.
