Merlin had come in to work prepared. Weird things had been happening lately. The air conditioner had been on the fritz, making some offices freezing while people were sweating out in the hall. People, himself included, had been seeing things. Things he could only describe as ghosts because they would be very pale if not transparent and just vanish into thin air. It didn't freak him out because he totally believed in ghosts, and ever since he was young he could remember seeing paranormal things - like waking up in the middle of the night seeing things floating. At any rate, ghosts running amok in the building was a very good excuse for coming in tonight prepared as he was.
The contents of his backpack included: half a dozen snack sized bags of chips, pop tarts, and several fruit-by-the-foots, his new iPod speakers, a ziploc baggie for his stash and everything that went with that, and a mess of other things that he just hadn't bothered to take out since class. The best part of night shift was by the time he came in most people were gone, and no one really gave a damn where he was, or what he did as long as it looked like he was cleaning. So he came in at around eight already with a nice buzz, listening to the Beatles on his iPod, and starting on the easy task of trash bins.
Harold and the other were probably around somewhere, he had no doubt they'd run into each other soon enough. At which point they'd probably take a nice break, and put his newest batch to good use. He'd given John some already, but had no doubt a number of the crew tonight would be up for a puff or two, at least. Harold was always fun too, the Broadway tunes would be good for singing along with as they cleaned, and his new speakers would make it so they could hear the music on almost the whole floor since the night security didn't exactly appreciate him using the building speaker system -- something about it was for emergencies not fooling around. Whatever.
