Who: Robin, Allan, Much, Marian, and OPEN if anyone wants to be around
What: with Marian after her attack
When: night of the 21st
Where: the hospital
Warnings: angst, angst, and then some more angst

Had he been less focused, Robin would have been far more interested in the teleportation; to be in one place one moment, and miles away the next, was astounding. As it was, he was glad he remembered to thank Paige; and, as soon as he had learned where Marian was, he took off for the hospital.

Along the way, he berated himself in a thousand different ways. He should have requested that they go to the training together. He should have known that she would go out on her own, despite her agreements. He had failed her again.

Three times, now. She could not possibly have any chances left; God knew, he probably did not, either. He had promised her father he would keep her safe.

She had promised to take Allan and Much when she went to the church.

So much for promises.

A nurse directed him to her Marian's room, and he had to stop himself from running there. At the same time, he had to force his feet to move along the hallway. Allan had said she was "pretty badly hurt," and as he walked into the room, he tried to keep the "alive" part of his friend's message in mind, instead.

There were wires all around her, machines beeping beside the bed. Her arm was wrapped up in something. Her face carried some scratches, and there were areas that looked as though they were likely to bruise within the next day. And she was so very still.

He was frozen a few steps away from her. Alive. She's alive. That was the important thing.

Robin glanced back at Much when his friend began chattering, finding that he was less annoyed than he expected to be-- perhaps restraining himself earlier was helping?-- and merely made a calming gesture, indicating that Much should hush.

Turning to Marian again, he smiled with relief when she looked blearily up at him. "Hello." He could not maintain the smile, though, and asked, "How are you feeling?"

She didn't like it when his smile left his face. A smile was a look that suited him, the frown on his face now did not. And she was the cause of it. Turning her hand with a small amount of effort, she gently entwined their fingers to try and get a smile from him. Or at least a reaction that wasn't so sad.

"I'm fine."

Her automatic response, but if she was honest she wasn't aware of much right now. All she was aware of was the feel of his hand in hers and the fact that she had escaped the attack.

He loved the way her hand felt in his, and he eased a bit more when their fingers were laced. He did not believe for a moment that she was fine, but at least she was not appearing to be in too much pain.

He'd been wanting to kiss her head, but was afraid of jostling her too much if he leaned over. Instead, being careful not to disturb her, he raised their hands just enough that he could press his lips to the back of her hand.

An apology was on the tip of his tongue, but she hadn't seemed to like his question a moment ago, and he did not want to upset her. Instead, he called her out on her answer. Lightly, giving her the closest thing to a grin he could muster, he murmured, "You're a liar, Marian."

Hopefully, he was choosing the right tactic. He would hate for her to not be up the tease.

She smiled a little when he brought her hand to his lips, moving her hand from his grasp so she could run her fingers across his cheek gently. He looked too worried, she prefered it when he was smiling. Almost as if he read her thoughts, he gave her a grin. One she knew was forced but that was better than the concerned look he had moments ago.

"When I have to be," she replied quietly, her eyes still not leaving his at all.

Her smile, weak as it was, made it easier to summon one of his own. And when she stroked his cheek, he covered her hand with his own for a moment, before lacing their fingers again, lowering their arms before she accidentally moved too much and hurt herself.

He was pretty sure she intended her reply to be lighthearted, too, but the words confirmed that she was not doing so well. "No," he said softly. "You never have to be. I don't want you to lie to me."

He had not realized what he was saying until it was said, and quickly shoved down the thought that she had lied about taking their friends with her, for safety. That was unimportant now.

"If you need or want anything, if I can do anything to help you be more comfortable, name it." If his smile was a bit more strained now, he doubted it would be too noticeable, after the ones he had forced so far.

Allan had been only watching quietly from the corner, knowing that the two needed that moment together. He only wanted to help, and considered leaving the room for a moment to give them thier privacy. He would have pulled Much with him.

Robin then told her that if she needed anything he would get it. He wanted to make sure everyone was alright, and he knew Robin wouldn't want to leave her so he stepped up. "Yeah, Marian. What's going to go get a few things between friends? I'll get whatever you need." The classic Allan smile on his face.

"I wont lie then. I'm not as bad as I was before I woke up."

She glanced around for a moment, taking in her surroundings. There were so many wires leading up to her own body, making her curious as to what each thing did. Something seemed to be carrying blood right into her. Well that was strange. She could feel the dull ache starting to get stronger in both her arm and where her ribs were. That couldn't be good, but she tried not to let it show. That was until Robin asked if there was anything he could do and Allan agreed with him, the first time she had really noticed that he was there.

"Figure out why the pain is getting stronger?"

He wanted to ask her exactly what had happened, but was not going to bring it up until she seemed to be up for an extended conversation. And there was also the real possibility that it would upset her to remember, so he was not about to risk that.

Her face changed a little as she looked around, becoming more tense. She was already much paler than usual, but what small color had been in her cheeks was gone, and he suspected she was starting to feel her injuries before she made her request.

Appreciating Allan's offer, Robin glanced at his friend. "Can you fetch the doctor, or a nurse?"

At Marian's words, his smile disappeared, and he was already out the door looking for the doctor, or the nurses that had tried to force him out of the building as Robin spoke to that effect. He would leave them for a moment, just long enough for him to find someone to help.

Marian let her eyes follow Allan out of the room before she closed them, taking a deep breath. It wasn't as bad as the pain she felt when the injuries were caused but it still hurt. Before she knew what she was doing, her grip on his hand tightened as she worked her way through the throbbing pain and she became more aware of the sickness and weak feeling that was coursing through her. She wanted it over, she wanted it to stop. But it just wouldn't. Whimpering a little, she bit her lip hard to stop herself from crying out as the pain in her ribs got worse.

It was obvious that she was hurting more by the second, and Robin was frustrated by his inability to do anything. Her grip on his hand was liable to leave bruises, but that was a passing thought. With his free hand, he smoothed back her hair, trying to soothe her even a little.

When a small sound escaped her, a million ways he would dispatch her attacker flitted through his mind-- his ire increasing when he realized that almost none of them would work on the creature.

He let none of that anger show, set on being a calm presence for Marian.

Ever since Robin's silent gesture for him to be silent he hadn't said a word. He knew people didn't really like his talking, but right now he didn't know what else to do. He felt very powerless. They needed Djaq. She would be able to get rid of the pain Marian was feeling.

And now Allan had been the one to go and get help. What could he do? He let his gaze move from Marian to Robin. He wanted to ask if he could do something but was afraid of breaking the silence this time.

Allan didn't need to look far, he found a nurse's station near the room, and the doctor that had been treating Marian earlier happened to be there. He explained that she had woken up and was in pain, and both he and the doctor went rushing back to the room.

As the doctor came in, he started to get to work on Marian's medicines so she wasn't in so much pain, as Allan went back to standing in the corner. "You ask, and you shall recieve, M'lady" Hopeful the doctor would be able to help her.

The man who came back into the room with Allan nodded to Robin, introducing himself as Dr. Bailey before checking the tubes and machines. He then picked up a tube with a button, and explained that Marian could push it for a dose of pain reliever. She visibly relaxed after using it, and Robin relaxed with her, thanking him.

When the doctor turned to go, Robin was tempted to follow; he wanted to hear exactly what the man had to say about Marian's condition. However, he could not quite bring himself to leave her yet, even for a few minutes. Not yet.

She was more than happy when she had it explained to her how to stop the pain, feeling the pain slowly starting to disappear. It was taking a while, but she would get there soon. Once the doctor went to leave, Marian noticed the look on Robin's face. Squeezing his hand, she nodded after the Doctor.

"Go talk to him. For me."

So she didn't mind much and knew she would find soon. But she could tell that Robin needed to know.
